Parents of the HS class of 2010 - Original

balance post. Those 09ers hit 7000 in one of their threads and yeah they are over 1000 in the other one. Inconceivable!

Let’s get us up to 7000 by the end of the week.

ps- thanks to the recent help on our side from missypie :)

I’m not complaining about the lack of finals! I am so glad to have my daughter back in the land of the living after that AP hell.

Did anyone get yearbooks yet? Seems like we will be getting those soon. Ours weighs about ninety pounds.

Finally getting S’s SAT II problem ironed out.

The woman at Collegeboard who I spoke with on the day of the May tests DID cancel S’s registration for that day (even though he had already taken the tests – big no-no on her part), and changed his registration to June 6. I had called to register S for the June date because immediately following his 3 tests on May 2, he knew he wanted to retake 2 of the tests.

Two days ago I received the anticipated “call from upper management” – a very nice man who was so helpful. He gave me his personal phone number, and said that he wanted to be the only person I ever have to talk to at Collegeboard. S’s account has been not working for months, and he said he would try to fix the problem. He re-registered S for the May date, so S WILL get those scores soon! Yay!!! :D

Well, I’ll help.

The two English teachers ds was choosing between for a LOR are leaving! He probably should pick a science or math teacher anyway because the one we know he’ll have already is from his language teacher. Still, bummed. He’s had each of those teachers before and was going to take them both again next year, one for his core and one for an elective.

I’ll see your 90 lb. yearbooks and raise you! My guys start finals on Monday, having endured a 3 day school closing in honor of the “swine flu.” (No actual confirmed cases, just lots of absences.) They finish their finals week with a lovely topping of SAT 2 next Saturday.

yearbooks- yeah our kids got them yesterday. Nicely done, one of D’s best friends was one of the editors. Much of it in color this year, she said there was a discount. We don’t pay for them directly, they are included in our tuition.

jackief, yes, our kids say that the yearbooks are free. As long as their parents paying the whopping tuition, that’s a true statement.

Bengal, glad to hear the mess is getting straightened out. You think he could have told you the scores on the phone! I bet you could make a lot of money selling his name and number when the mess is over. JUST KIDDING!

I think my kids have learned the difference between free and included from me by this stage.

Yes I am having fun playing with the html markup today. The big question to ponder is if I will become a Senior Member before or after this thread tops 7000. No I will not be padding .

jackief:

As I discovered, you can make Senior Member by making your 1,000th post on this very thread.

Yeah, our HS has color year books as well. Quite frankly, though, I think they provide a lot less info about each student than the, ahem, less refined, black and white (and less expensive, even inflation adjusted) version that I had back in the day. One addition I do enjoy is the inclusion of a collage of baby pictures of the seniors, so you can compare to the 17-18 year old pictures of grads.

Ds got his yearbook last week. I’ve never liked the way our school staff does the yearbook. Colorful, but it’s some trend to tell stories. These take up a lot of space so club pictures are tiny, which makes no sense. Huge pics for one person, tiny pics for 50. I do like this year’s better than last years.

Okay, I need to be educated. We had a responsible friend visit us who used to live in the area. He borrowed the car to visit someone else. Unfortunately, he was in an accident (no injuries) but ended up totalling the car. :frowning: It was a great condition 2005 Subaru Outback with 25,192 miles.

So, we’re thinking of replacing with like kind if we can, which means venturing into the used car market which we have not done before. Any words of widsom or cautionary tales you’d like to share?

Okay, I’ll pitch in for the post count: D is done with finals, she just had two, since they are excused if they take the AP exams. She takes the SAT subject tests next Saturday. I have very little hope that she will actually study for them but maybe she will surprise me.

ETA: FAP: Sorry about the car crash. Glad there were no injuries. Our last used car was bought through a newspaper ad and it worked out great- but it was a Honda Civic.

FAP I bought a dealer loaner car in the past and had good experience with it. I would also suggest off-lease deals. Sorry about the mishap! Hope all goes well with insurance.

jackief – Now there’s an idea for raising a little tuition cash! :)

FindAPlace – sorry to hear your car was totalled. I’m glad no one was hurt. (Isn’t is strange that a car can be totalled with NO injuries??) Our area has an online classified section that is associated with a local television station. I know several people who have found great used cars thru that free service. It seems to have a good reputation. Is there anything similar where you are?

Glad there were no injuries FAP.

So D was assigned yesterday a 15 minute speech with Powerpoint presentation. Due on Monday. What a jerk!

I feel bad for her, though. she’s just so tired. I can’t wait for school to be over.

S2 has four major projects still to do. Yuck. At least the other classes have pretty much ended for the year, so he is not going as crazy as I feared. SAT retake is next Saturday. He still needs to talk to teachers about recs.

We’re still trying to figure out a summer schedule so he can do what he needs to, but still get a vacation somewhere in the process. He still has a couple of schools he wants to visit; two are local, one is in NY. If GF comes on the NY trip, we’ll probably stop off at Cornell, too.

FAP – so sorry about your car. What a pain to deal with!!

Bengalmom, glad to hear CB is actually getting you some answers. Hope your S finds out his scores before the June test date!

Bengal- that’s right as CD says, if you haven’t gotten the scores by mid-next week, I’d call your CB buddy and see what he can do. He should really know them going into the exam.

D has an APUSH paper due on Mon, I think that is the last of the assignments. Finals start next Thurs I think.

almost there 7000!

I would just ask the CB friend to make it an 800 for all the inconvenience.

7000!

Hurray! I have something to contribute to the thread! :D
