Parents of the HS Class of 2011 - We're awesome!

Hi All
Am way behind.
Popping in to ask for prayers if you are so moved…
Kiddo2 is very very ill and will likely be admitted to a hospital today – and it is kiddo2’s birthday. NOT the way we planned it at all…
and My mom was admitted to hospital (across the state) on Thursday. She is a stage 4 cancer patient.

as far as we know, all is well and safe/sound with kiddo1 at the U. Let’s pray thats true.

Hugs all around.
Pouring more coffee.

Will send up prayers this weekend. Hope everything turns out ok.

Sorry to hear that fog. Sending e-hugs your way.

Did have that giant margarita last night. I am planning a vaca for April, but think I should have gone with Avon’s idea of cruise or beach. We are doing European Vacation with S2&D with her bf & 2 other families I don’t know. None of us speak the language ha ha. Relaxing? Not thinking so. H & I haven’t been anywhere together for 6 years. And have the guilt that S can’t join us. Oh well he doesn’t seem to mind.

Of course fogfog…so sorry to hear this.

When it rains it pours.

You’ve got my good thoughts and prayers fogfog. Take care of yourself and your family.

fog - so sorry to read about kiddo2 and your Mother. I hope kiddo is out of hospital soon.

Idinct - Enjoy your vacation! I was hoping for a European vacation, but the airfare put us off.

Proudmom -good luck to your D with the next interviews.

collage - welcome back to the grind. HI sounds wonderful right now.

samuck - thanks for the inadvertent laugh.

12yo D has and appt with an ortho doc Monday. Her knee has being giving her trouble. Playing basketball isn’t helping. So her pediatrican told her to stop, took and xray wouldn’t you know they find this “fibrous cortical defect” which 30-40% of all kids have and probably has nothing to do with the pain. But, H and I were viewing the xray at home, bad move!, and H is now talking about bone graft surgery. LOL (well I hope it is LOL) I told to stop talking to me about D’s knee and stop trying to diagnose the issue. I think it is just a growth thing and she has to stengthen her quads, etc, but we will find out on Monday. In the meantime she missed some tourny play with her travel team, playoffs with her regular team and tryouts with her AAU team. She is not a happy camper.

S seems to be doing well. I sent him an email to start studying NOW for midterms in a week. This did him in last semester, he waited til the night before to try and review and blew it big time. Nagging will not help, he will just tune me out, but it makes me feel better. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime, I have sent him laundry detergent, fabric softener, snacks and a case of drinks this past week. Oh an a personalized Dunkin Donuts gifts card with a picture of H on it when he was about 8yo. too cute.

Have a great weekend everyone.

fogfog: So sorry to hear that your son and mom are not doing well. Prayers and cyber hugs.

fogfog, I’m sorry to hear about your mom. My best friends mom just got very bad news about her cancer too. It is so sad and we are all helpless to do anything but send thoughts and prayers.

mamom, Could it be Osgood-Schlatters? My son had that. Don’t know if girls get it as much as boys or not. Often occurs with growth spurt, although S2 didn’t really have one when it started. It is pain that is sort of under the knee. Activity makes it hurt worse. You can google it, but I think the radiologist report would have mentioned it. The patellar tendon pulls too hard on the growth plate below the knee. S2 still has pain when he runs a lot even though the condition is no longer what you’d call active (his growth plate has close at his age). Equal quads and quads and stretching is what he needed. Probably true in most knee issues.

Fog: I’m so sorry to hear about your mom and son. Sending positive thoughts your way.

ldinct: I think that you’ll enjoy the European vacation more than you expect.

Proudmom: Good luck to your D.
Collage: Welcome back. I would hate to leave Hiwaii also. I’m sorry to hear about D2’s injury, but it’s nice that she can come home for spring break.

Mamom: I hope you get a clear diagnosis for your D’s knee soon. My D2 had what sounds like a similar inury when she was 15 and playing indoor field hockey. I believe that it was growth related, and did respond to physical therapy.

Fogfog -thoughts and prayers flying towards your family. Hoping for speedy recoveries.

Collage - I am on Olin’s parent board. We meet on family weekend each Fall.

hugs and prayers fogfog, although I doubt any amount of either will help you to split into two people so you can be with both your son and your mom. Hopefully you have siblings to help you with your mom until kiddo 2 recovers, how awful :(

Sending positive thoughts your way, fogfog.

So sorry to hear of people being in the hospital. That is mighty scary.

Can’t believe February is almost over. This semester is flying by for us.

D got a part in a student-directed play. She is so happy! She is working like crazy and really settling in. Housing is an issue, for next year and also because we think it’s causing some serious asthma problems. She’s seeing the doctor during spring break, so we’ll see.

She has had knee problems forever - patellofemoral stress syndrome and some rheumatic issues. I’m sorry to hear so many kids are having knee trouble. Definitely strengthening her quads has helped a lot, but not completely. Some activities just don’t work for her (starting in kindergarten, jumping rope).

Looking forward to hearing spring break stories - we’ll just be here, relaxing, going to a play and some other things. Good luck to everyone with mid-terms!

fogfog, so terribly sorry to hear the news. Sending healing thoughts your way.

NJFootballmom - Pediatrician ruled out Osgood-Schlatters. D even asked if that was what she had, at 3 of her class mates have been diagnosed with it. I surprised she knew what it was. Back in “my day” you played through the pain or didn’t play at all. No one went to the doctors unless it was a life or death thing. LOL

Emmy- Congrats to your D!

hugs and prayers for fogfog and all others whose kids/loved ones are experiencing difficult times

Knee issues are bad. S started with serious case of Osgood Schlatters that didn’t respond to any therapy. Sad for a 12 year old who can’t run. Derailed any chance to play in hs. He ended up having surgery Sr year.

Fog fog…sending hugs…I hope that your son and Mom are ok…

Fogfog: praying for you, your S2, and your mom.

Mamom: the intersection of growth issues and adolescent sports injuries is unsettling. I can recommend a fabulous sports doctor @Children’s if you find you need/want one. D worked with her for almost 3 years for various athletic issues, and she referred us to a physical therapist who specialized in D’s sport. It seems like the ones who do gymnastics cannot do basketball, the ones who do rowing cannot do football, and so forth. PM me if you want names.

Oh, Fog - I am so sorry to hear of your family’s medical issues. I am sending positive thoughts and prayers for your son, mom and for you.

We had our share of knee issues here when the girls were in MS and HS, mostly younger DD who was a competitive cheerleader. Thankfully no surgeries but lots of therapy, pain meds and braces. I was secretly happy when she decided to just cheer @ school - no more issues after that!
