Beautiful speech oldfort. Your daughter turns a fine phrase!

Pill: An uncle, an aunt and a cousin of D all had teen pregnancies. After much parental agonizing, we opted a year ago for the “better safe than sorry” proactive approach. She had terrible cramps etc. anyway. As it turned out, she also had what seemed like every pill side effect, some of them pretty unpleasant, and went through a couple of kinds before finding one she tolerates (i.e. only one day of nausea per month). I’m pretty sure that she actually hasn’t needed to be on the pill at all, to date, which possibly makes all this seem silly, but I’m happy with the status quo for several reasons. (1) After adjustment, the pill side effects are much less than the previous cramps and PMS. (2) If you have to struggle through an adjustment to this medication, it seems better to do that before you really need it, and under less stressful conditions, if possible. (3) I don’t feel obliged to pry into the exact details of her relationship with the boyfriend. (I think they’re not “going there,” but it’s not really my business, thankfully.)

Wow - had a kid home from college for a long weekend and had to go out of town and now I’m months behind it seems like! And I read on my phone most of the time so don’t get the edits either.

Anyway, with all the Disney film references (I know, I’m behind, I SAID that!) - just wanted to share the name of the next Comedy Improv show at MIT (that my son came up with):

The Rick Astley demanded my Pixar films but I’m never gonna give him Up Show

;)

Oldfort - thanks for sharing the quote. It’s truly beautiful. She definitely has a gift and I know you’re so proud. Wish we could see the entire speech.

marciemi - glad to have you back. Nice show name!

In honor of all this Disney talk the family watche “George of the Jungle” live action movie tonight. I remember when DS was in preschool that the director was rather worried about playing George, as the kids would literally run into trees. She was happy when that ended.

Love all the movie memories. We own all of the Land Before Time movies…on VHS tape. We’re big fans of Miyasaki as well.

saintfan - another nod for Nuvaring - two years and D has had no issues with it and it is impossible to miss a day or two of pills during the month so that makes me stress-free It is a bit expensive and her (crappy) insurance only covers like $4 of the $85 total a month, but I am liking the no worries for me part so I am willing to pay.

I think the patent expires in 2018 and competing products will be available (i could have this memory wrong)

oldfort, that was a lovely excerpt from your girl’s speech. I hope she gets picked.

My girl just went off to her AP Govt test–last one! From there she’ll head to her second day at the zoo–no problem getting there, but she got a little turned around getting home. The highway split confused her. (No GPS, I believe in learning where you live.) Tomorrow morning she auditions for a graduation speech. She hasn’t finished writing it yet…

D has been on the pill for almost 3 years. Like me, she has very heavy irregular periods. She takes it every morning when she gets up, easiest time for her to remember. She has no boyfriend now, but who knows what will happen in college. She also understands there is no protection against STDs.

Several friends’ daughters have started/are starting before college. I think I will give her a box of condoms also. Good idea. Best to be prepared.

Nausea and weight gain with nuvaring? I have been wondering about that.

Please make sure your daughters (and sons-for that matter) understand that they pill/ring should be considered backup birth control for condoms. HPV vaccine does not cover all forms of genital warts, and condoms are the only way to really help prevent most STDs.

Good morning all! Our Internet went down yesterday am and didn’t come back until this am so I had a lot of catching up to do.

PN - about the ap Gov. test (where DS is right now), idk if his college gives credit or not. I just remembered reading that they don’t give credit for human geo. What did your kid say about yesterday’s physics c? My son thought he did the opposite of his practice exams. The easier subject had more difficult questions.

D has 2 AP tests today and then she is done. She is on the pill for cramping reasons.

The challenge of my day is going to be to not let the phrases “That is the stupidest thing I’ve every heard” and “***, it has been three weeks why aren’t you done with a process that I could have done in 3 days?” cross my lips.

oldfort - wonderful speech, I hope she’s chosen!

S is done with his AP’s now. His final project for physics is building a boat of cardboard and duct tape. They have to actually be able to ride in it and race down the river.

I’ll be away the next few days - getting my surgery this morning. Behave and don’t make me miss out on too much fun stuff.

Sending positive thoughts and good wishes your way, eyemamom!

seiclan - S thought the Physics AP test was fine yesterday. He said he had time trouble on one of them (I think Mechanics), but overall he thought it was fine. My kids’ college doesn’t give credit for Human Geography either, although in our state, I think all state schools must give credit for any AP score of 3 or more, so it would earn credit there.

jmnva06 - I missed it, what are you doing today? I can think of lots of situations where those two phrases would be essential. ;)

Looks like it’s going to be a beautiful day today! Maybe I’ll get some more gardening done.

Eyemamom - we’re all thinking about you today! Be well! There will still be plenty of details to fret about when you get back…

Eyemamon - wishing you a speedy recovery! Hope it all goes well today.

Hayao Miyazaki - especially “Our Neighbor Tortoro” - big favorite here… The kids can watch it over and over.

AP testing finished last week for D - Hooray! Friday was senior ditch day… Things are going way too quickly!

Doctor’s appointments, etc. - yep, trying to make medical appointments for all of the kids except my new job keeps throwing up conflicts, so I keep having to reschedule. I think I will celebrate when everyone has actually gone to all of their appointments. I am dreading the wisdom teeth part as D is needle phobic & very afraid of the idea of surgery. I am going to have her have a consult w/ an oral surgeon who will use pills instead of IV’s drugs - the whole thing is enough to give me an anxiety attack - and I am not the one w/ the fear of needles… just a fear of getting through this. I am making DH take D to her doctor’s appointments since she will need shots for college.

D and I need to figure out announcements & select from the senior picture(s) her cousin took of her during spring break (had a separate photo shoot w/ him as we had to use the official photographer for the year book, but D really wanted her cousin to do her “real” senior pictures). Nothing like waiting until the last minute - thank goodness for the quick photo services such as have been mentioned here!

OldFort - loved the excerpt from your D’s speech! They definitely should pick her to speak - she has an amazing gift for words!

“Miss Technicality” tells me that Buchanan was actually the first gay president.

requesting happy, fast thought for DS15 3:30-6:00 PDT for final erg test of season - hoping to meet or break boathouse record for a freshman a 1:38 2k

YES - only anti-pregnancy!

I wonder about the weight gain b/c my D has gained about 20 lbs since the time period she started using it BUT I do not know if the hormones are any different than other forms so she would maybe have gained no matter what. Also, she eats like a horse - but she’s an athlete.

She was just at her GYN yearly last month and I guess the doc didn’t flag her weight - maybe I will call him.

The season is over - no State Champs Lost in the semis and the team that beat us also beat our bitter rivals in the final. HOLY what the heck just happened!!! They had a great run - on to the next team!!!

oldfort that is just a great piece from your D’s speech! Really affecting and memorable.

eyemamom, you’re in my thoughts! I hope all goes smoothly and you’re back in the swim in no time.

I’ve decided to get D a laptop for graduation/birthday. Does anyone have an opinion on MacBook Air? Weight is important, and she only uses it for word processing, internet, skype, etc. No games or big video/design apps.
