Parents of the HS Class of 2013

I bet any RISD student would make you one, though.

Alright DDHM…curiosity just killed this cat! I Googled RISD mascot. Oh my! Wow, most inappropriate mascot snugglie pillow EVER! *why am I smiling?

@SomeOldGuy: I spilled my coffee when I opened the link to Duke mascot. Oh my… I don’t know what to say… Didn’t they have enough money to hire a good design team? (or a manufacturer…)

DDHM: might be a multiples thing…my kid’s car has a month old ignition lock cylinder…yikes was that a bill!
We are prob doing both for grad party…mix of Hs and college colors
Fly: I’m not creative at all…in fact, googling choir quotes tonight for my last decorating quest for state comp…I can copy about anything but don’t come up with much on my own! I would struggle with the prom posters…sounds cool…but I would need a surrogate poster maker😃

That RISD mascot is outrageous! Not exactly appropriate for alumni family t-shirts!

I have to admit that when I had my first car, I also did the panicked call to Dad about not being able to start the car and, yes, it wasn’t in park. Of course, back then to call him I had to go find a pay phone.

Although I must say, a few weeks ago I get into my car and it won’t start and wheel won’t turn. I try everything I can think of. Have to leave underground garage and go up to street level to get a signal on my phone, but instead of calling anyone I google the problem. Turns out the solution was to use mechanical key to unlock and relock the door, then when I got in I could turn the wheel. Ignition had locked because apparently “older people” hang on the steering wheel to get into the car. Well, I’m a little older, and I’m short, so climbing into SUV I sometimes hold onto the wheel. But not any more.

And yes, we are still sailing on the SS Indecision. One school I thought was out of contention for DD is still in, so that’s 5 she’s deciding amongst. DS still has 4.

I sent my DD off to a 3-day visit to one of her top choices this morning.

When she left she had fully decided (although not written the check) to attend another top contending school - and was only visiting this school because the airline tickets were already paid for. So, I was reasonably hoping to be serving next week on the SS.

As luck will have it - she has fallen in love with this other school -so back to the drawing board! Wow…

Here’s hoping all of the travelling lucky 13s are safe and sound … and out of the path of the tornados, ice storms, and any other yucky weather out there today.

Kennedy2010- say it isn’t so!!! Both of my sons are doing exactly the same thing tomorrow-- darn those plane tickets! I know the remaining school is going to do everything in their power to woooo them. I think it will make the decision very difficult! Especially for one of them!

We are still cruising… what is on the menu for today? I think I have had my fill of champagne!

The top of my screen has an error message where ads used to be…anyone else see that?

Good Evening Everybody!

I just love you guys. Really appreciate SomeOldGuy’s musical selections in the mornings! Today’s was especially apropos! Love the B-52’s.

So proud that we have so many visiting M I T this weekend! I don’t know why I am proud since I don’t really have a connection to all of these talented kids, but anyone else hoping that they all manage to meet up and have one big CC convention while they are there? (ha)

I have to say that Step-D is winning in the mascot dept. The Pitt Panther has some cute manifestations and some clothes even have a cute little panther paw on them. I had NO IDEA about RISD!! How did I miss that mascot!! OH WOW! If HitoWaMom spilled her coffee when she opened the link to the Duke mascot, I have no idea what she’ll do when she googles the RISD mascot. Not Work Safe! Not Work Safe! Lol.

The car stories are making me nervous! We intend to sell Step-D’s car in August when she goes to school. Please nothing break until then!

Kennedy - You have GOT to love teenagers. Step-D chose the last school she visited (actually it was one of the few she visited twice!) Who knows, if the trip had been planned in reverse order, maybe she would have landed at W I S C O or M A R Q U E T T E but as fate would have it, the plane flights for DH and Step-D worked out best to ‘end’ the March trip in Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh it is! Lol. Will be interesting to see what your DD decides! (what an advertisement for that school’s admitted students program- at the least!)

And I echo the sentiments of pouncecat. Hoping for safe travels and happy weekends!

Oh, great. I looked up that mascot JUST as ds walked into the office. “WHAT is that?!?!?!” he asked. Uh, just what you think, but I swear I didn’t know what I was doing.

I looked it up too Youdon’tsay. Amazing. Gotta do a little research and find out why…

Carimama - since DS is still undecided - college was not mentioned on open house invites that went out this week, because party is in 6 weeks. He is making decision progress and is as we speak at UChicago for an overnight visit, then Monday he and I revisit UMich. I’m so hoping for a decision next week, because he has a big awards banquet on Wednesday where all the kids will be saying where they are attending. I guess he could always give his top 3. Since college is not decided on, the party will be in high school colors, but I am going to have a college table that will be filled with paraphernalia from the lucky winner. As far as cake, I’m kind of leaning towards an undecorated cake, because I HATE to cut up a pretty cake that I put a lot of thought into and want everyone to see. So I am thinking of ordering a plain sheet cake and plating it, so that it is ready to go. Is that bad?

L-dog: too funny about RISD mascot!

DS did think the cheer “Go, Nads!” was hilarious.

Well, y’all have been most kind. I’ve been staying quietly sloshed while D made up her mind. And the result is in … D has become a Terp!

I really thought she was going to go for U Chicago. But after detailed research and thought, she realized she really wanted to go to U MD. She’s been admitted to the School of Music and biology program, Honors College and the very competitive Life Sciences program inside the Honors College. Everything she wanted.

It will take me a day or two to get over this hangover. Then I’ll be happy to serve!

Congrats to your D LizzieT.

LOL YDS - don’t I wish it were that easy!

Cari - we ordered announcements through the school, so they don’t have the college on them. I’ll be decorating with high school colors because we’re having a joint party… and all of them went to the same high school. Plus, to me, it’s about the end of high school… but I like high school :).

I like the crossed pennant idea.

How cool those of you doing cakes / decoration themes / etc. I love the ideas but never seem to follow through.

FlyMeToTheMoon - that party / memory board sounds wonderful. We don’t do that, but the kids put together slideshows from events (band, choir, each team, some classes) and ask parents to send in photos.

megpmom - yay for S2, indeed!

tx5 - wow on the friend-at-CC story. I hope that school lets in a lot of transfers. But… just wow.

DDHM - when S13 is away at camp and such, if I text him “are you alive?” then I will get an answer within 24 hours. The answer is always “no.” well, once it was “No, I died.”

Ah - “Mizzen” deck :)

DDHM… our Tuitionmobile will be back from the shop tomorrow. Turns out it had TWO catalytic converters and both went bad. TWO.

sacchi - where were you on Sunday? I was in the bookstore on Monday and didn’t even think to check the stuffed animals!!

Aw, Kennedy… but we want them to fall in love, right?

COngrats, LizzieT!!

So what do you say when your kid says “I really should go to {SCHOOL X}, shouldn’t I? It makes more sense. I just can’t shake the feeling that I’d be happier at {SCHOOL Y}.” ??? :(

DD finally made her choice and it’s such a relief!
