confetti247- what do you mean tomorrow???!!! Taxes are not due until Monday! Sadly I know where my son got his procrastination gene!

Dado- Men’s warehouse must be the place to be for all high school boys! My son was practical to a fault and refused to spend extra money on a tux rental. We just bought a new suit that fits that he can wear to prom and then take to college.

I am leaving next week for Greece (Greek Easter) so unfortunately I will miss our one and only prom! Luckily the girlfriend told me, “don’t worry, we can Skype you so that you can see us all dressed up!”

Pouncecat2, many colleges really like it when kids take a “gap” year. Like GreekMana says, I bet it will all go smoothly.

Confetti247, Maybe by prom exG will be reG. ;)

DS asked DearFriend to prom today with a huge printed poster on her car and roses. I mentioned that he might want to go ahead and rent a tuxedo. He reminded me that he’s been wearing DH’s college tuxes. Good think DH chose shawl collars way back when rather than notched collars! Since the tux no longer works for DH :), DS will join SomeOldGuy’s DC (I assume son in this context?) in taking a tux to college.

Kelowna, it pays to take your time on these decisions. He is wise beyond his years.

So much terrific news from this group!! Congratulations on all the decisions and scholarships! I’m proud to be sailing with all of you.

Just booked a crazy week of travel with DD as she revisits Wellesley, Johns Hopkins, and Bryn Mawr, and takes her first look at Reed. That decision is really going to be down to the wire.

Am going to ask DS to flip a coin, then see how he feels about the result.

GreekMana - They had given him very generous merit, so when we went to see them about need based they asked how much we needed! We were so overwhelmed by their helpfulness & generosity. Safe trip!

Kennedy2010 - Congrats on Washu!

ahsmuoh - fingers crossed for you!

TerinZak - Congrats on the scholarship!

Sacchi - Congrats on Dickinson!

megpmom - OMG grad school. So can’t start thinking about yet! Congrats on her choices. Safe travels.

pouncecat2 - fingers crossed for you!

pkdof13 - Safe travels. Such great choices!

Question - so the school takes American Express. I have a Starwood Amex Card for which I earn points to use at Starwood Hotels. Boy will I need those points for our DC stays when we visit him! Now the school charges a 2.75% fee to pay with a credit card so using a round # like $10,000 it would cost us an extra $275. It would give us 10,000 points which, if I used for a free night, would only be 1 night, but if I used it for cash & points stays I could use it for 5 nights points & a total of $175 cash. So a five night stay, factoring in the service charge, would cost me 175 + 275 = $450/5 nights = $90 per night for a hotel that costs $119 per night. Am I looking at this right?

lol dadotwoboys! S13 likes dress clothes, so I’ll be careful come prom time!

Greek - I know when taxes are due. I also believe - based on my own experience - that many people who aren’t done yet went to bed last night thinking “I’m gonna attack this bright and early tomorrow and get everything done!”

SomeOldGuy - we’re debating buying a tux at this point. Haven’t decided yet.

EastGrad - that’s what I’m thinking… the other night exG was over and DH said she was wearing S13’s Notre Dame cap. Does this mean… … the possibilities overwhelm me! :D

Kat - looks like your math is correct. Make sure that you can use that point/cash combo when you want to be in town, without restrictions (and, if you don’t have experience, check to see that the hotel doesn’t suddenly run out of rooms at that rate when you use points - thus adding to the total). I know nothing about Starwood points, so this isn’t based on that program, just on “loyalty” programs in general. And, of course, you’re not factoring in credit card interest but I assume you accounted for that one way or another.

Over the river and through the woods… I’m off to grandma’s house. Hopefully no snow!

D1 is off to Montreal tomorrow with three friends. Will stay in a hostel that looks like a castle for a few days. The friends are looking at Concordia.

Meanwhile, she wouldn’t go with me to Chicago for a couple of days over the break so I could see HER school!! :>{

Well DD came home from SOuth Carolina very excited - and we put the deposit down today!!! Decsion done…with 16 days to spare!!! Now I just have to “put in writing” my request to get a couple deposits back from other schools - has anyone done this?

ahsmuoh: Yes, I have requested some deposits back, probably even a couple of months ago. Nothing yet… One of them made it easy with an online form to request return of housing deposit. But it also looked like they would not process it until this summer when they can verify that the student didn’t enroll.

Congrats on all the great scholarships and decisions rolling in!

D has 16 days of school left (including 2 days of senior finals). Graduation is May 13, but since she won’t be able to attend, she will be completely finished by the end of the Honors Assembly on May 9th. That is only a little less than 4 weeks away!!!

I know I committed to serving drinks but need to BE served today. D1 is being a grumplstiltskin…wicked mood! It is messing with my attempts to be melancholy while I work on two eight foot banners for state choir comp decorating this week (my final act as choir mom)…she’s really ****ing me off that I can’t wallow in peace…so I’m moving to the deck instead…margarita with extra salt please AND EARPLUGS!!!

Good afternoon cruisers! It appears we may be sailing through some rough waters so hold on! We have the Masters on the tv’s in the Sports Lounge. I have a margarita for 3Triplet and today’s special is a Passion Fruit Mojito.

We are off to an local admitted students event. Trying to figure out what to wear.

Questions to those whose kids are graduating the first part of May - how is it possible to have graduation midst all the AP testing? In our school it is also IB testing time.
But how is it in practice - kids officially graduate but still come back for AP test?

Bigdoglover - I tried gently nudging my D - she refused. It took a visit for her to fall in love.

Appollo - enjoy your visit to Washu this summer. I have still never been so looking forward to dropping D off in June.

Sacchi - glad to hear your S is happy at Washu - maybe their paths will cross next year. And congrats on your D decision for Dickinson!

MegPmom - I am covering my ears and humming - refusing to hear the words “grad school”. Enjoy Prague!

Greekmana - I am also a little sad my D will miss prom. 3 years ago all my S friends gathered at our house beforehand to share the car (party bus!) to prom. It was indeed memorable.

Kat - congrats on CUA!

Pkdof - good luck on all your visits…

Kelowna - for us it’s the other extreme. My D doesn’t graduate until June 17th. Oh well…

3Triplet - Sympathy for the wicked mood…we were there yesterday. Glad I’m not the only one with wonderful offspring who can be real snot bags now and then. All better today.
