Parents of the HS Class of 2013

Longhaul: Yes, a busy Senior year for those of us with multiples, but having all my kids in a one minute time frame has its advantages: I am not going to be touring campuses this campus with a dChild15/14. I cannot imagine starting the process out again.

Biggest Senioritis tendancy that I’m seeing in DS is his aspiration to become a pirate.

pouncecat - Wow, German camp sounds intense especially right before AP testing. I assume that she is preparing for her study abroad program in Germany…

I was thinking of starting a thread called Is Senioritis Real. I have been assuming it’s a myth or exaggeration.

Kennedy, I definitely see Seniors wanting to keep grades up, but really exhausted. Our school’s teachers are laying the homework on pretty heavily, and even one late homework goes in as a zero and destroys the grade. Senioritis at our school gets them summer school.

For those of you with kids researching different dorm selections, I found this interesting website to scout various intramural interests of living groups and majors for participating colleges: IMLeagues

Pounce my D is right there with yours. D had a bad virus before spring break and two important overnight college visit far away meaning 4 days of missed school. She is trying to catch up but burning out! She is digging out of a poor grade in an AP class and she is very bummed about it!

DDHM - Pirates at MIT! I LOVE it!

Yes, German camp is to prep for Germany. But it a lot of fun, too. It’s kids from several counties and their teachers. They can not speak English all weekend. It’s just funny and silly and she loved it last year.

But this is actually a different language camp than the CBYX orientation that she’ll be doing instead of prom. The CBYX one has me worried because they’re flying her in ‘somewhere’ but haven’t finalized the where yet. Apparently either Texas or Colorado… well let’s just say I’m a need to know and plan type so this is freaking me out a bit waiting to find out where the orientation will be. When DD09 did the CBYX the orientation was just an online video chat.

Re. Privacy, I’m trying to think why it really matters. I’m sure my D knows my user name or could figure it out and I know I’ve communicated with a couple of her intense classmates at times. It also wouldn’t take too much effort on Google to figure out her info. Maybe that should concern me but it doesn’t.

I’m worried that D will fall to senioritis/burn out. She is just recuperating from mono and she’s still pretty run down. She had to stop swim team for a while and try to take it easy. She’s in the IB program and just finished her preliminary exams. So far she’s staying on course for predicted scores. I can’t wait until this is over and then I’m going to have a tall mojito!

Ds has it. We put the hammer down two weeks ago when we realized he was failing a class. He now has an 86. :)

DDHM-- based on that intramural website, I know for sure which school DS13a would pick! His top choice has FIFA as a sport. It’s a soccer video game! Too funny!

Bigdoglover and Mamabear - the fun is just beginning - wait and see!

esteemom, I think the thread you’re referring to is the one about the WSJ piece (was it light humor or dark hatred?–read the thread and find out!!) that had to be closed because of the excessive vitriol.

BWTHDIK?

Muf123 & Where next - so sorry your DDs are digging out, too. I think it’s hard, but they’ll get it done. We’ll be there to be sure they do, right?!

Apollo6- re Privacy… I read 1984 way too young. So I’ve always thought Big Brother is watching - which in some twisted way seemed comforting. But now my Big Brother says he won’t show up in the event of a disaster for like 3 days. What’s up with that?

@ pouncecat2 - I just re-read some of your posts re: CBYX. Looks like a very cool program! Does your daughter take German? This is something my DD’15 might be interested in, although German is not a language “on her list”. Do you know the city she is going to?

Well as if these kids don’t have enough to worry about - DD13 just came in upset because her friend and family will be at the Long Beach Grandprix on the 19th and it’s her considered opinion the Boston thing is domestic and since April 19th is the anniversary of Waco and Oklahoma City there will a problem. Hhhhmmm… just breathe and carry on.

I know pounce - gone are the days when my D didn’t even notice disasters and other world events…

Kelowna - She does take German. However, it’s not required. We do not know the city, yet. When DD09 went they all met up in DC flew to Frankfurt then went to an ancient monastery for a month for language and cultural training. While there the host family placements were finalized. The program pays for everything except spending money…they recommend $300 per month. DH and I looked at each other and said, 'Sweet! We’ll save money! She blows more than that now."

Let DD13 know that the CA freeways getting to the race will be much more dangerous. Although on second thought, then she’ll have two things to worry about.

I won’t mention the landslides, fires, and earthquakes y’all have out there either. Wait, now I’m beginning to worry about you, Pounce…

DDHM - See! That’s why I kinda like my Big Brother.

Senioritis - DD definitely has it!!! But she did figure out that the transcript only has final grades (won’t show 4th quarter averages) and the rest of the year was very good so she can slip a bit (which she definitely is) and still have A’s.

So tonight we paid enrollment, housing fees, orientation fees…oh my…I’ve heard of the “extras” and they are starting!!!
