Kelbee - no, don’t tell Clark she’s on waitlists elsewhere. If she decides to go elsewhere, she can tell them then and that means her spot will open up at Clark for another student. It’s all part of the big reshuffle, and I think schools expect it and plan for it. You will lose the deposit of course but telling them in advance that she might jump ship won’t prevent that.

kelbee–getting along with and understanding quirks is not the same as living together :D. Have them go and look at each other’s bedrooms–could they live in that room with that person as is? Have them request the same dorm, maybe even the same floor, but not the same room. Do they want to chance losing that friendship by rooming together freshman year. After freshman year, if they still want to room together, fine, they know what it means to have a roommate, etc. by then.

kelbee - congrats on Clark and hope things work out for niece…

Also, you don’t need to tell Clark about the waitlist.

I’m glad we don’t have the roommate-from-high-school issue at either school. I think it’s a bad idea, but it’s hard to explain to kids who are gonna be friends forever…

LOL TVenee - your D sounds like my D!

So, today starts the TWELVE DAYS OF DECISIONS! I’ll start with today’s line:

On the first day of decisions, S13 said to me, “But Mom, I still love my safety!”

Hi all! I have been away and just returned from a much needed trip with DH. It also was a good break from all the college decisions stuff. DD is still on WL for 3 schools, but has decided on the one we will make a MAY 1st deposit on. She told me she doesnt want to get too excited about that one “yet” because “if I get in off the waitlist at another one, then I will feel bad about having to “leave” the one i deposited on”… I hate to ask her “what if you get in off the waitlist at more than one??” (of course that is really really unlikely…but…) I’d love to know what sweatshirt to buy!!

Twelve days of decisions? Makes this morning’s kickoff tune obvious, particularly after some of the recent backstories here.

As for the sweatshirt, you can go online and get that John Belushi Animal House one that just says “COLLEGE” on the front.

In honor of the first day of the 12 days of decisions - I am serving Irish coffee - with 1 shot of whiskey. Enjoy!

Ldog - LOVED the National Anthem link!

Midwestmom2013 - Truman is a fantastic school, and one our D was considering until they didn’t have her major. And, you can’t beat the price!!

Congrats to all who have made decisions or are still receiving notification of great scholarships! Speaking of, Kelowana, you mentioned an outside scholarship that you S won that would make UofC a full ride? That’s awesome! We have a DD’17 who may be interested in UofC…care to share the scholarship? Jw :)

Crazy schedule in our house, with hs graduation one month from today, and an 8th grade graduation the next week…so.much.to.do!!!

Kennedy I’ll take the coffee but hold the whiskey. I’m exhausted this morning. I dropped D13 off at the airport at 4am. She’s headed off to the first of two accepted student events. I returned home and got my boys ready for school, but my aspie was in a mean mood and in full meltdown mode. Luckily after lots of (bribery) err talking he calmed down. I then discovered a note in the 5 year olds backpack that a costume was due this past Monday (just got the note mind you) for a play that’s being performed tomorrow! Thankfully my 4 month old has been a little angel today. To top it all off it’s snowing! What!

The sweatshirt discussion just gave me clarity! DS13a has been proudly wearing the sweatshirt of one of his choices for the past two years. Additionally he has the T-shirt for that school as well as for the second choice school and oddly enough he has neither for the third choice school.

Did I just imagine it or was I offered Baileys with my coffee this morning?

Kelbee - I am with the folks that say get a new room mate - My oldest D has friends that lived with HS friends and it was a disaster. Also, don’t tell Clark about the waitlists…you don’t want her put at the bottom of a housing list is they think there is a chance she won’t attend.

Baileys and coffee sounds wonderful right now - it is 5:00 somewhere…

Someoldguy, I LOVE the idea of a t shirt that says COLLEGE :)

So sorry, but with all the new news it would take me forever to acknowledge all the goodness here, so CONGRATS on all the amazing news!

So, we seem to be back to a deck chair. S13’s reach came through yesterday with amazing FA so now he is rethinking. Poor kid is stressing because he wants to make the right choice. All we could say was we would support him whichever he choose.

Please pass the Baileys, forget the coffee, just put it on the rocks!

Confetti - Twelve Days of Decisions…Love it! Can’t wait to see the other installments.

Yes Baileys!

DJ Someoldguy - you’ve got skills! JD, Muppets AND 12 days…nice!

“COLLEGE” hahahaha! I want one! I’ll get at least a year out of it…even though I feel some comfort having made a deposit at UCD and she’s wearing out the sweatshirt already… I’m sure DD13 is gonna keep me hang’n on the German medical school thing. We really won’t know if she can handle studying in German until she does this next school year there…I can’t even imagine studying medicine in another language - to be honest I could not have studied medicine in English!..FYI this household does not speak German. DD09 and DD13 did that on their own.

I think D1 would prefer it if I’d just wear something that said “COLLEGE”. (Come to think of it, I used to have a sweatshirt that just said “New England” on it.) Right after we committed I bought sweatshirts for everybody and a hat for me, but D1 won’t wear hers and cringes a little when I wear either (if I were to wear both simultaneously, her head would explode).

I can’t say in polite company (even on a cruise ship) how she describes the behavior of the kids who repeatedly wear these sweatshirts in school…

It sounds like a good thing your daughter doesn’t go to school with Devil Child. He wears gear for his school at least once a week – although, to be fair, sweatshirts from two other schools are still in his go-to rotation for sentimental and comfort reasons.

Kat - It ain’t over 'till it’s over. Hang in there. But GREAT news on the FA at the reach! Yay!

Tougis - Is she OK with her choice? Maybe just not ready to face college until she has to? I’m very curious (but then I am a cat) about her negative response to college gear. Although a hat AND a shirt together might be a bit much, she might have a point there…but all the seniors at DDs school can’t wait for the day they can trade uniforms for college shirts.

It might not even be over ‘when it’s over’ - I have noticed several parents trying to get their deposits back…

SomeOldGuy, your Devil Child should be proud/happy and is. And–he’s a guy.

For D1, either not caring or not admitting it out loud trumps almost everything. To be fair, it’s only partly being too cool for words. There’s also a lot of shyness mixed in there.

So much good news and excitement! Congratulations to the happy parents and students. Re. Full scholarship opportunities, see the merit scholarship thread. I posted a helpful link there recently. My D chose a full scholarship at what many would consider a “lesser school” but one that has perfect programs for her. I’m looking forward to her being in great company when other great students choose her nationwide scholarship!

@carimama-I was able to pull up the original FAFSA and compared it to the corrected FAFSA and noticed the change right away. The school inputted her summer job earnings we sent to them. When we checked she wasn’t required to file a tax return the FAFSA didn’t ask for earnings, but we reported it to the school anyway.
