Parents of the HS Class of 2013

I’ve never been called a lovely cocktail waitress either. Does this mean I should shave my legs?

SomeOldGuy - Of course, it goes with the roller skates!

Laurendog - Loved the antehm.

Greekmana - Safe journey. Good luck on the Skpe connection.

I can’t even handle the crazy news going on here. Congrats on all the $$$, scholarships, and everything else!

WHAT THE HECK Kelowna your son has some crazy options! Has he narrowed it down at all yet?

I’m getting closer to making my decision. Down to 3 (really 2) schools and leaning heavily towards one of them. But I will still go to the admitted students days at the other just to seal the deal.

I was afraid of that. Our belated musical selection for today doesn’t have a theme or inspire any fond memories, but I think the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album is the best release of the month. (We are with going the Letterman version because the video is way too weird for parents.)

[[HD] Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Sacrilege ft. Broadway Inspirational Voices - David Letterman 4-5-13 - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

Congrats times 3 - 3triplet. Is that like getting a turkey on the final frame - way to close out the game (ok - a bowling reference was a reach since I don’t bowl, but I think it works).

If SomeOldGuy has to shave his legs, do I have to shave my beard? S’18 won’t know what to do with himself. I started growing this thing the week he was born. Nah!!

Since DD13 will be deferring for a year - Does anyone know if she can apply for scholarships on next year’s cycle? She didn’t apply this year for any of the outside scholarships. Between the concussion, the flu then digging out off that awesome start to the year I couldn’t bring myself to nag and put even more pressure on the mix. Boy, will I be glad when HS is over.

Oh No! Dadotwoboys - I’m picturing a ZZ top thing here so definately no shaving! ZZ top on roller skates

yep… I need that imagine after the girl prom drama rant earlier… and DD13 isn’t even going! She’s just the referee in the whose going with whom drama. Did I mention I’ll be glad when HS is over?

Wow! Huge congrats to everyone for so much good news!!!

Ooops. In addition to lovely waitresses, I will gladly accept drinks from dashing waiters as well! And no skates required!

And yes, Ldog- Christos Anesti!

OMG 3Triplet!!! I am so excited for you! What a day! I can only imagine the joy in your house tonight. Congratulations to everyone and even if you don’t win the lottery-- you already did!!! I am so happy for you!!! YEAH!!!

Btw, at this rate, I will never finish packing!

Can’t believe how much happens in a day here!

DDHM, I want to play Tetris Building :D

Donuts and Chardonnay… breakfast of champions! What, don’t judge, I went to a Catholic college!

Kat2013 - definitely on kid stress. I can’t imagine doing what they do when I was that age…

But really, don’t all donuts go well with Chardonnay?

pouncecat :)

Longhaul - sorry about the step backward from the decision. May I go to college with you? I hear WashU is lovely this time of year.

Better yet, I vote Eleuthera…

Congrats, CathyMcClarey - on the decision and being done with scholarships! We looked at Monmouth early on, but it dropped off the working spreadsheet after the early admits.

Oh My Goodness, Greek - AP scores online! Many and many a future heart attack to be avoided by nervous moms searching through recycling bins!

tx5 - thanks for the tip. Tomorrow, I shall do pilates. (I’ve been saying that for 4 years now, since I won a pilates DVD in the summer reading program…). In the meantime, do you still have some microbrews?

Kennedy - very cool on the State Science Fair! Also, AP testing is the same for everyone, so they try to time it before any schools are done.

DDHM - that’s not really senioritis, though, is it? I mean, when I grow up, I want to be a pirate.

S13 has declared that three B’s is okay for this semester. They are all in AP classes, so… I told him one. We both know that we are going to settle on two :). He started working too (umpire) so that will have an impact, but math team and science olympiad are done, and orchestra will be done soon.

We should have midnight pancakes on the Lido deck!

Amazhon - you need to follow up on that. Check your FAFSA and/or call the schools. If they made a change, it will be sent to the other schools, so you need to know.

amandakayak - yes! I loved Syms… :(

Midwestmom - glad your dad is doing better :). And congrats on having a decision!!

musicmerit - congrats on your D’s decision!

Congrats, Greek!

ahs - did I miss USC, or did you not tell us before? Either way, congrats! And having a roommate already!

I am trying to make sure S13 at least looks at everything, and he has to read everything he signs. And starting with getting him to sign everything that lets me see everything… beginning with our health insurance. I can’t tell what’s left for the year on him because he turned 18!

S13 and D15 shared a room until S13 was 12, but the last two years of that he slept in the basement “den” - we just didn’t move the dressers and stuff. In any case, if they can live with each other, they can live with anyone!

Bingo and Sangria – now we’re talking!!

Oh, Kelowna - almost too much good news  - congrats :D

LOL tougis! Phones! (I would say “Kids!” but I’m inclined to wonder how much is her…

Congrats on the FA bump, YDS!

Have a great trip, Greek! I will scribe well awaiting your return ;)

Oh my, 3Triplet - how fantastic for all of you!!! And all good news on the same day - YAY!

I have been called a lovely cocktail waitress… but that was at a hotel where the retired clientele would buy one egg at a time and a table tipped a nickel… in the 1980’s. Here’s hoping our kids get better college jobs!

SomeOldGuy - liking the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

pouncecat - you’ll have to check the rules on each one. Many are for anyone who will be an undergrad the following year, others require it to be a first-year college student. I’m sure some will be eliminated, but not too many.

I think S13 is gettng close. My (DH-imposed) rule of silence is lifted today, but S13 had an AP practice test and then went over to maybe-ex-GF’s, and tomorrow night he is attending the school play, Friday night he has rehearsal for a community band he’s filling in for… so I don’t know when I’ll corner him!!

Not now, for sure - now I’m going to bed :). Here’s to an even better tomorrow – MTOBEIOF!

Yes it is, as all members of my family can attest to it. I fell such a compassion for DS that I cry almost daily now. But they have to learn how to make a decision, right? :)

Amazing day on this thread, isn’t it? I should also drive north to buy a lottery ticket :)

DS is thrilled but also stressed about the big decision, the most important for him so far.
We are trying to provide some background info, but ultimately the decision will be his, and he knows that. Glad he is so open minded and shares his thoughts with us…and friends have been so helpful :)

@ Confetti - I don’t know how you do it!
Parent of the Year

Congrats, congrats, congrats to, well, just about everyone.

We’ll be putting down a deposit by end of the week for Clark Univ. so decision definitely made and everyone’s at peace with it. Niece will stay on waitlist for three schools but no expectations that will happen.

A few questions for all you super smart parents:

My niece is going to a college with a couple of friends. They’re back and forth on whether to room together. They get along well, understand each other’s quirks, etc. but they are also concerned about missing the experience of a new roommate. Any thoughts? The college strongly advised against rooming with a high school friend and also advised against finding friends through Facebook; they said their housing forms did a much better job on behalf of students. Thoughts on this?

My niece is getting a lot of of financial aid but will still be taking out the maximum each year in loans. Is there such a thing as tuition insurance? Should we be considering it? Would it cover the loan amounts if she needed to drop out for some reason?

We will put down a deposit this week but should we notify Clark that she remains on the waitlist for other schools. What’s the protocol? I understand she’ll lose the deposit in the unlikely scenario that she is offered a spot at one of her waitlist schools but is she suppose to tell Clark that she is on the waitlist for other schools?

I would stay at a distance from HS friends…make new…

Congrats to everyone! Wow!! So much news! My D and I will be on the SS indecision down to at least the 30th … Juuuuuust in time for AP tests. even though she will get minimal, if any, credit for them even if she passes with the schools still in the running.

Amazhon - I got the SAME email today. It came to MY email but under D’s name. At first I thought it was for my FAFSA. D didn’t get an email from any of her schools either. If you figure this out, LMK!!

TV- I hope I understood correctly that you’re going to get to visit the schools with your kiddo finally!!! I sure you are since you missed out on some of then while on bedrest. ;)

And … The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs FTW! I <3 them!!!

Kelbee - fwiw I would advise her to try a new roomie instead of her HS buddies. In girl scouts, there’s a song you learn early on …

“Make new friends, but keep the old.
One is silver and the other gold.”

She be able to expand her circle and still keep her great friends!!! :)

I am so proud of all your accomplished kids! Figuring out what they want, gettin scholarships, finding fits and succeeding in science, music, athletics and other recognition! Fantastic

Ordering the backpack laundry thing tomorrow!

Last trip to accepted student event this week and a decision will be made. D thinks she knows where she will land. We are just crossing our T’s and dotting our I’s. I love this time with her!

Glad for recovering parents and prayers for continued good health for all!

Thanks everyone for sharing your news!

Carimama- sadly she is going alone. I’m nursing the little one so going wasn’t an option. I am however, going when we drop her in the fall to whatever College she chooses, by then the baby will be on solids and not just dependent on me. DH, baby and I will go with Grandma or Auntie in tow to babysit while we get D13 settled.

Kelowna- I’ve decided I need to sit by you on the deck in hopes that the magic dust surrounding your house will blow my way. Your news is awesome! I think whatever choice he makes he can’t go wrong.

I’m not sleeping tonight. D has to be at the airport by 4:30am which means we have to leave here by 3:30. Guess who is just now packing, and guess who is still washing clothes to pack, and guess who will probably still be showering at 3AM…

kelbee- I would advise finding a new roommate. Facebook is a reasonable way to start the search, but I would recommend meeting in person (orientation?) before a commitment is made.
