Parents of the HS Class of 2013

Well, I saw the Logan info. on a friends facebook, but checked other sites and it seems to be open.

EastGrad - Too bad he isn’t going to La Guardia. I so highly recommend the air vents in the food court of Terminal B. They provide such a comfy place to rest your head! :D

On the plus side, my son had two comforters and a pillow, so we weren’t lying down directly on the metal!

Musicmerit, I also have a sixth grader and my DS13 will be at the rival school: “And Eli’s hopes we are dashing, into blue obscurity!” Should we open up the HS Class of '19 Thread now to exchange some friendly banter?

Momofmusician, I will give DS those tips on the way to the airport.

I am not ready for the '19 thread, but if you open it, I am sure others will come!

Eastgrad – I knew we all supported everyone and their kid’s schools, but I really LOVE your comment, “no such thing as a lesser school on this thread!” LOVE THAT about this group :D

3Triplet – yes, venturing away from “our” group here can be scary at times…I venture sometimes, but come right back as well ;)

Congrats to all the decisions over the last couple/few days. Soon there will be no one to serve on the SS Indecision!

Many prayers to those in Boston and surrounding areas, and to the kids heading that way today…

EastGrad - I feel for you today. I know that your S will be OK, but the emotions are still there…one thing is certain, he will never forget this trip.

As for letting go…I generally have no problems imagining that but then it hits me, the fact that he is most likely never coming back to live in my house again, that from now on he will be just a visitor, and then I just can’t help myself and fall into pieces…(Ok, I am in pieces again…)

Kelowna - I am in the same position as you. I know that my son won’t be back very much as I am sure many summer opportunities will present themselves to him. I have three months left because he will be gone for 5 weeks in the summer. Boy have the last 17 years flown by.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, my daughter has already put in a request to move into my son’s room. :)

My DS already has his summer after freshman year pretty much mapped out and I know he will not be home much :(

Hey guys, aren’t we sending our 13ers off to college so they DON’T return, except for holidays? C’mon, chin up, having them lead happy independent lives is the definition of a successful result here!

For anyone needing comfort foods, I have brought in several boxes and placed them on the Lido deck. Help yourselves. DS may install a 3D printer (like a Star Trek replicator) there this weekend so you can order whatever food you require to get you through the next couple weeks.

DDHM - I know that intellectually, but emotionally it is a little harder sell. I am very excited for him and the new stage in his life that awaits him, but his presence will be missed.

I will be buying the chocolate. The ultimate comfort food!

I am sitting in a lounge chair today! More chocolate please. Son on plane to Boston. Trying to accomplish work and tasks while mostly listening to updates on CNN and NPR.

Thank you all for your good wishes. You’re right, Kelowna, he will be fine; but it is too telling of a metaphor as we send them out into the world. (Love the story of the diaper change! Doesn’t it seem like yesterday?) DDHM, I am muttering “happy independent lives” over and over again.

Exactly momofamusician - I am so happy for him to be entering this next phase of his life, the adulthood, but on the unconscious level it is different…

I will never forget what I said when we first brought our current senior, then newborn ,from the hospital. We have had seven wonderful years with my DH until we decided to have a family. I knew that life will change after kids, it was a conscious decision. But still, I was so overrwhelmed with changing is his first diaper at home, and changing everything else as he was covered with you know what from top to bottom, that I said in desperation “I can’t wait till he goes to college”
And here I am now…

Momofmusician - Congratulations on Yale!

Confetti - I will clean my PM box right away - more than happy to answer any questions about ND

D is youngest child - it will be with mixed emotions that I send her out into the world. I know that she is ready - so it is the selfish parts of me that create the mix. She heads off to her summer research program early June for 7 weeks - then is only home for 3 weeks before she has to be back on campus for pre-o. So May will be a month of reflection for both of us I am sure…

I’m not thinking far enough ahead yet to preemptively miss Devil Child, but since he has conspired to spend the better part of his summers out of the house for past few years, I have some idea what lies ahead – and it’s way too quiet.

EastGrad, can your son actually land in Logan today? I know that Greyhound, which is supposed to be bringing D1 home today from Montreal, is depositing everybody in White River Junction, VT. They have to be picked up from there, because Boston is, basically, shut down.

EastGrad see post #17

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/1493073-visitas-safety-boston-2.html

I think Logan is open, but the problem will be getting out of there…though I am sure they have some kind of contingency plan.
EastGrad - any friends that can pick him up? Let’s hope they catch they young guy really soon (think of it - he is almost the age of our kids…)

Hey guys, aren’t we sending our 13ers off to college so they DON’T return, except for holidays? C’mon, chin up, having them lead happy independent lives is the definition of a successful result here!

…and I am going to keep repeating this until at least I have myself convinced…

“lead happy independent lives…” “lead happy independent lives…”

Good luck to those of you with yourselves or kids in the Boston area. Patience and perseverance must be ruling the day there. And a well stocked pantry.

EastGrad - see post 21 in that same thread - It looks like Visitas has been canceled, but not being on threads for that school I have no idea if CC is a credible source - probably is, but you guys should be getting information via email from them, I would think…
