Parents of the HS Class of 2013

I know, Kelowna, it also occurred to me that he is the same age as last year’s senior class and many of our kids’ friends. Logan is open, but under tight security. It looks like Visitas has been cancelled; we will probably let DS stay in Boston with friends this weekend anyway as it may be the safest city in America this weekend. Stay tuned and thanks for all the support.

We are now officially finalized. DS just emailed in his yes to spend his next four years with the problem solvers at M I T. He believes that the world can and will be better and kind, hard working engineers are going to be a big part of making that happen.

So…I’m dragging my body out of that comfy lounge chair and will give drink order preference to those of you with kids blocked out of Visitas or having any other travel issues. Oh, and more free donuts for the asking. And free chocolate. And I’m adding hot chicken soup and freshly mashed potatoes as comfort food. The real kind of mashed potatoes, not from a powdered mix. And grits. With butter. The real kind of butter.

Congrats to Confetti, Music and DDHM!! Notre Dame, Yale and M.I.T !! Wowsa. 3 schools that are ~almost~ as good as Michigan, but I digress… (I kid, I kid of course I kid!)

I have a solution for EastGrad’s S. Put him on the phone with DDHM’s S and let DDHM’s problem solver tell EastGrad’s problem solver how fun it will be to solve problems -together- !! See problem . solved. (drops mic) … :p

tougis - glad to see you in here. What a day for your state, city, municipality, etc… I can’t even imagine.

Congrats DDHM. The world can use as many problem solvers as we can get.

Congrats, DDHM! My DS15 would be both impressed and slightly envious.

Thanks Ldog, but I have a suspicion that EastGrad’s S is a pretty strong problem solver too. Just aiming for the wrong side of Cambridge is all. :)

SOG, we expect for your DS15 to join mine in two years. All he has to do is take a good course in physics so that he can figure out how to move heaven and earth. :D

Well, he’s about to wear out his sweatshirt from that end of Cambridge, but I’ve also given him plenty of counseling and forewarning about how difficult an admit that is – and that Devil Child basically hit the lottery, so he shouldn’t just expect to be done with the process by the holidays in 2014.

Congrats DDHM on a decision being made !
Now you can serve me some Chardonnay  I am going to enjoy this last few days on the deck since I think that DS’s decision has also been made ;)

Congrats DDHM!

Prayers and thoughts to all transitioning through all the crazy news and tragedies of the week.

Eastgrad-your DS is going to have the experience of a lifetime as a young man and a student. He will be fine and all our CC positive juju is on his side.

Congrats Conffetti on ND! Congrats for Truman! Congrats DDHM on M I T!

Mommaof5- great news on the scholarship for UC!!! I have a very warm spot for that school, as you know! Michigan is great too.

Esteem- lol…I am already falling to pieces. At a college banquet, I teared up, lower lip quiver just being in the room and D said “Mom, I haven’t even decided on a college and we are in public!”

NEWSFLASH  The accept button has been pressed! My new favorite school is University of Southern California!!! She went to the library and studied instead of taking the campus tour again. She felt so at home and settled. Her host was fun, interesting and very bright. Icing on the cake and sealed the deal!

our2girls- I second your praise of Eastgrad’s comments! Love this forum!

Uni-did I miss your decision?

Ldog- Love that version of Hallelujah!

Kelowna, momofmusic- Feeling the same way!

Sorry if I missed anyone!

Roomates-D will likely break all the rules about living with a friend. You can give a kid the directions, the articles and stories of disasters and in light of current events, something I can live with. It will be what it will be!

Thanks to all. Feeling a bit lighter without those two albatrosses wrapped around my collarbone. But I still feel fat. I came to an epiphany this morning: Chocolate makes me fat.

Kelowna, should I look for one from Napa/Sonoma, Russian River, or one of the Burgundy domaines when I head belowship to retrieve one of the better quality Chardonnays?

Wherenext: Congrats to you too! USC might be DD’s grad school. (Oh man, yes, I am already thinking Master’s prospects for her…) BTW, I think Uni is still deciding.

Mashed potatoes with butter and chocolate, please, DDHM, because I haven’t come to your enlightened conclusion yet. Or I’m ignoring it. And congrats–I love MIT. We’ll have to rendezvous in Boston when things are calmer. I will recognize you by your clear resemblance to Voltaire, uh, I mean, Grace Kelly.

ETA: Oh my goodness, should have refreshed before posting…will catch up in next post.

Wherenext, thanks for the positive juju. My “problem solver” will need it, and everyone is right…this is an experience he won’t forget.

Hurray, hurray for USC. Love that beautiful school.

Kelowna, when that bottle of Chardonnay arrives, bring it on over. :)

EG, I assume you want the chocolate on the side, not in the buttered mashed potatoes? Or am I unaware of a regional favorite? :D

No need for Kelowna to get up; I have donned my roller skates. I’ll just skate the bottle over. (I used to play college ice hockey so my ankles are awesome strong.)

A CC meeting among lots of us in late August in Boston could be fun! (although probably logistically impossible) Wouldn’t it be funny if Tougis (or SOG) are the ones that really do look like Grace Kelly? ;)

Congratulations to Confetti, Music, DDHM and Wherenext! What amazing kids and schools!!!

I believe that we are docked!!! It looks like UChicago here! I am so excited! Now I can put all of my energies into his open house party that is 5 weeks and 47 minutes away!!!

Wow!!! Congratulations all around!!
I would like grits (mine, quite frankly, suck :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:) with a side of chocolate please!
Happy weekend everybody!

A triple helping of grits it is, with just enough butter to make them tasty but not too runny; they will still have just enough stickiness to adhere to your spoon. Nice and warm too. Do you prefer dark or milk chocolate?

Congrats on all of your progeny’s decisions!

I just had 1/6th of the Senior class taking prom pictures in my house, including parents and grandparents. Someone nominated me to host the “gathering” for pre-prom group photos. Funny thing was, it wasn’t my kids (or me) who made the nomination. Unfortunately, we were under tornado watch during the meeting time, so it was a bit…well, wet outside! It was so cute how all the boys color coordinated their tux accessories with their dates’ dresses. It was the grandest exhibit of pre-planning that I have ever seen from 17 year olds.

S’13 finally boarding plane in Raleigh after Blue Devil Days. Plane delayed due to weather. Happy he’ll be getting out and heading home, but sounds like he had a great time.

…and prom tomorrow night here

My sons’s date won’t divulge the color of her dress. Any ideas on corsages/flowers? I haven’t done this since the stone age!

Momofmusician - I’ve been watching way too much NCIS so that’s probably affecting my vote for a black rose wrist corsage. But black goes with everything, right? Definately for the wrist, it’s more fun to show off that way - also…what if the dress is strapless … where can she pin it?
