White roses on a wrist corsage.

I agree with the white roses on wrist corsage. Very classy, YDS!

DDHM, it’s no mystery to the rest of us why your house is the “go to” spot. (It’s your poetic prowess.) Dad(di)O, glad you will have your son back soon.

DS is in Boston, now on an “unofficial” college visit since official weekend was cancelled. College reps met kids at airport and put them up in hotels for the night. He is having a great time with future classmates. This afternoon, we thought he’d come back tomorrow morning and booked a flight, but with the resolution in Boston earlier this evening, all has changed again. We have moved his return three times now!

Now that the lockdown is over, the kid assigned as his original host is glad to have him stay. Son will still come home a day early, so I will only spend two more days muttering “happy independent life” over and over. Other kids and H are beginning to regard me with suspicion!

Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers. I felt your collective goodwill and know it made a difference. Most important, there were no more injuries in Boston and all the first responders and civilians are safe. Sad case all around. Can’t believe that this kid is only a year older than ours and can’t help but feel sorry for him as well as the victims.

Glad the Boston is open to business again!

Just got back from another bittersweet event. State Math Contest Banquet. Like I said earlier, DS and a friend from the same school took first place ex aequo
DS hold her tight and said how special it is to be sharing the podium with her tonight, they have been competing in math since 5th grade, according to girl’s dad, taking turns being on top through the years. They got a huge ovation :)

Another thing that I have noticed tonight is the fact that DS role in the community of his peers is shifting. For the last couple of years he has been a clear leader for a lot of the kids, especially in competitive math circles in our state. I watched how the younger kids surrounded him tonight, how they listened to what he was saying , how they “glorified” him (as in he is not as special as they think he is
). Now , as he goes away to college, he will be that young kid looking for direction from older, more accomplished friends…

In the meantime though, since DS did not press the button yet, although we all know what button it is going to be, I will have another glass of Chardonnay. The bottle from California looks just fine ;)

The corsage - I told my son that if he does not know what the color of the dress is , go either white or very colorful. I really like wrist corsages , or those balls made from flowers, but they are not popular in our area…

Kelowna, what a nice image of your DS and chief competitor. Wish I had seen it. Maybe you need to switch to a little champagne tonight?

I myself have laid off the liquor and am enjoying mashed potatoes spread on slabs of Swiss chocolate. Mmmm, mmmm. Getting ready to return to service tomorrow.

EastGrad - I will post some pictures on FB when DH gets back later tonight (they are in his phone). It was really sweet, they are so different , her being such an introvert and him being so out…and it was especially great because it was a girl and a boy…just an amazing evening, though all the way north to the Canadian border (as one of the professors described the location) ;)

I will stick to my Californian Chardonnay…Mock Trial party at my neck of the woods tomorrow…

Where’s my like button?

Instead of the like button have some Chardonnay… :)

I may be on a different time zone, but I am still reading! Scary that the only thing that I managed to do during my layover in Germany was to catch up on the CC 2017 parents’ forum! I read it all, congrats on MIT, U Chicago, Yale, ND and USC. Hope I didn’t miss anything! I did read Midwestern’s comment and I too am wondering about unicameral and Kelowna’s son. Wow, Eastgrad, what an experience that DS went to Boston anyway. You are a true trooper to let him go. I know it was the right decision, but I don’t know if I would have been able to do that! You never stop worrying about your kids no matter how old they are! I didn’t even fly through Boston, and my mom was so worried about my trip. I am happy to report that I made it to Greece just fine and I have already had two glasses of Chardonnay for Kelowna since I arrived!!! Ok, so maybe it’s not really chardonnay, but it was white and I enjoyed it!

Oh-- and I did read the sorority girl rant. Yikes but hilarious.

The “no lesser school” comment was brilliant. One of the reasons that this is the only list I read on CC. Thank you for that!

Apparently since I left DS13b got a new suit and a date for prom!!! I think the girl he asked was probably just as shocked as we were! Now I am missing prom x2.
Luckily GF of DS13a is sending me messages on FB and keeping me in the loop on everything!

I have been enjoying the bailey’s and the daily drink specials. At this point, I will try anything! I will continue to work on my tan on deck as I enjoy the skating show of waiters and waitresses. On second thought SomeOldGuy, maybe you should consider a little waxing…

Okay, now I have this image of SomeOldGuy looking like Grace Kelly with very hairy legs.

I really appreciate how supportive you all were yesterday. This thread helped me get through an anxious day. Just like GreekMana says, we never stop worrying. THANK YOU, ALL.

I picture you working on your tan on the real deck of a real boat in an azure sea with hills with white churches in the background, Greek. Enjoy your trip. It’s awfully nice of you to take that trip to bolster their economy.

I know son is more than okay because I keep getting notifications that “Dear Son 2013 is now friends with Mystery Kid and 8 others” on Facebook. I assume this means he’s having a good time. :)

Hi guys! For those wondering about me, I am between MIT and Stanford.
If my financial aid appeal is declined, my decision will be made. But I’m basically mentally committed to the other one anyway. I am so freaking excited about college, and ready to press the button! Unfortunately I’ll have to wait until the last preview weekend, April 25-27… ugh.

Anyway congrats to everyone else as well! These are exciting times!

mom17- my first thought was yellow, because yellow goes with everything. How do I know this? You should see my house, but I digress.

But then when everyone mentioned white roses, I thought that would be nice, too. A wrist corsage is the way to go, at least in my area.

I wonder why his date won’t divulge the color of her dress. Here, the boys coordinate their tux with the color of the girls dress. If I were the girl, I would want to be sure the flowers weren’t gaudy, so I would eagerly share the color of my dress. She has more courage than I do.

FWIW, I think SomeOldGuy has had some problems with chafing.

I would call the mom if you can and see if she will let you know what color the dress is. I think it’s odd that the girl won’t tell him too. The boys coordinate ties/vests with the girls dresses here too. Wrist corsage is the way to go–nothing to hold on to for the night. Most prom dress stores here have fabric swatches for the girls to give their dates so they can match that stuff.

I think the girl is trying to be coy – like not seeing the bride before the wedding. Ds’s gf won’t let him see her dress (I got to!), but she sent him a pic of a portion so we could match his pocket square. Still with NO idea on the color of the dress, that girl is courting disaster, lol. Of course, you can’t go wrong with white roses.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think my son is going to go with a white wrist corsages with black accents. He is wearing black with a gray, white and black striped tie. So, hopefully, it will all tie in together. He tried on his ensemble last night and looked so incredibly handsome - in my biased opinion! Cue the tears… :D

Ds thinks his tux doesn’t fit as well as it could.

OK people I just love this thread…here’s why - I use a tablet to view and it has so many ads at the top and sides sometimes when I log in all I see is one post.

This was the only post on my screen this morning: “FWIW I think SomeOldGuy has had some problems with chaffing.” Hahahahahaha!

Ummmm . . . just a few. There would be no such thing as a LITTLE waxing on these legs. It is one of many reasons I’ve never done the Tour de France.

Kelowna, a nice Napa on its way.

“…am enjoying mashed potatoes spread on slabs of Swiss chocolate…” Er,… EG, you are joking, right?

Prom: The girls all had wrist corsages, dress color was pre-shared so most flower colors were coordinated. Small and elegant works well so they don’t slide or flop while dancing. Blues, pinks, and neutral colored dresses were predominant in our group; brunettes seemed to choose darker colors whereas the blondes went for lighter pastels. Correction to my last post - most kids were 18 by now, not 17.

BTW, wrist corsages are traditionally worn on the left hand unless the girl wishes to switch it to the right temporarily for a photo or for comfort (a left handed girl). Ehow.com claims they began in the 1980s, which isn’t correct cause I wore one in 1978. The guys’ boutonniere goes onto his left lapel; the kids had no clue how to pin it on. Also note that Orange Blossoms symbolize fertility; probably not the best choice.

Greek: Even though you are in Greece, I only serve Bailey’s to fully suited clients. :o That definitely also applies to you, SoG.
