Uni - maybe this is his really indirect way of dealing with the fact that he also had a favorite. Most of us parents do you know - and we just try to keep quiet because in this decision our kids know best. Just try being patient with him while letting him know (gently) that yours is the vote that counts.

This morning we are back to chardonnay and mimosas along with a breakfast of assorted cheeses, breads, fruit and yogurt. Nice and healthy…

Welcome back megp - wouldn’t this all be easier if there were simply a “like” button to catch up on past posts…

Welcome back megpmom!

SomeOldGuy - great note on the prioritization. I need to watch what I’m “throwing” into the important pile and see if I can’t help him to sort it out.

unicam - hang in there. Some of us parents are just suddenly coming to terms with the fact that now all the deadlines are met and the work is done, it’s REAL and you guys are REALLY LEAVING. That’s bound to leak out sideways once in awhile. Stay calm and things will work out.

Thanks for the fruit and cheese {munch munch}!

Twelve Days of Decisions:

On the fifth day of decisions, S13 said to me:
“STOP Nagging Me!”
“Do they have my major?”
“Silly mascot”
“Too many loans!”
“But Mom, I still love my safety…”

Oh my! confetti - even us “servers” on the SS have to deal with an occasional “STOP Nagging Me”

Morning, all.

Hand me a mimosa as the trigger was NOT pulled last night. Pool party popped up, and, well, we do have our priorities. I’m loving this downhill stretch. Today is the first day of the last marking period, and I reminded him “to get off on the right foot.” He said, “OK,” and promptly hopped away – on that right foot. What a goober.

uni - hang in there! You totally are invested in this and know which school is for you. Sometimes parents say something before thinking
Keep on keepin’ on - you got this :)

Uni, I just have to chuckle at his suggestion that Stanford is less than ideal circumstances! I can’t begin to imagine what is going through his mind. Maybe because it’s slightly geographically closer to home?

We are back from Nashville and I am ready to start serving! S13 has decided to be a Commodore! We figured there were enough Blue Devils around here.
I’m kind of sad that he won’t be a Tartan, but the funds just weren’t there.

So is there anyone left to serve? Who is still deciding and what have you narrowed it down to?

Congrats mommydearest! I thought we might have at least one Commodore in the group. A terrific school.

I’ll echo the congratulations. Nashville sounds like a great place to go to college, and Vandy is a fabulous school. Just don’t burn your lips off at Prince’s Hot Chicken.

The Mom of the ship’s Commodore should not be serving drinks. Sit back and feel free to move about the ship.

Congratulations, MommyD! I’m glad you and son are happy with his choice. He had some wonderful acceptances.

Sounds good to me, Haystack…I’d probably be spilling them anyway! Moonpie’s D is also a Commodore, but she was ED so that’s old news.
In my time in Nashville, I was also able to confirm that RobD, moonpie, and Galaxyfigment are all real live people…and good ones at that!

Just wondering if hitting the commit button at last minute (or last day not to exaggerate) is common to many students?
DD visited both Caltech/Prefrosh and MIT/CPW, she is more hesitated to make decision even we told her to take out money as decision factor. To whomever is waiting for MIT finaid decision, don’t count on it, our 2 rounds of appeal process got us about $1000 more. MIT won’t match any other colleges regarding finaid.
She is thinking after 4 years-options are Ph.D or career/locations.
Something to share: DD told us more students chose Caltech over Cornell, while her friends chose MIT over Princeton. It will be really hard to choose between MIT and Stanford.

Nerdydad - Congratulations on either MIT or Standford … no really wrong choice there … assuming you’re taking money out of the picture. Just not sure how to take money out of the picture. The whole this school is $12k more than that one, but that one is better (or is it?) - mental gymnastics makes me feel like I’m gagging on a hairball.

Congrats to the Commodore!

Lots of prom drama here…a group of my D’s friend were over this weekend complaining about this and that re: prom…dates, dresses, after prom, shoes, limos, flowers, tickets, etc…I finally walked in and said - “For Pete’s sake, it is just a 4 hour dinner dance. Just go with it.”

That comment resulted in complete silence. Then one girl piped up, “You know, your Mom is smart.” :-)

Momofboston - Good job giving them some perspective!

mommydearest - I had completely forgotten about Moonpie’s D (it was many, many pages ago) - my bad on that one. Nice that you got to meet with the ipeeps in the Nashville area.

Nerdydad - we are still in the same boat.

My D saw Caltech before Prefrosh Weekend and went to MiT for CPW. She loves the both, thinks MIT had a stronger aerospace program. Ugh.

She’s heading to Olin before the decision day, & I hope she can see herself there.

I see MIT now and only see $$$.

-For those who renegotiated prices … How do you go about doing that???
