Parents of the HS Class of 2013

I think anyone considering ST an FOrd along with other schools will go down to the wire since their admitted students weekend is April 25-27. I’m hoping DS13a will have enough clarity to decide as soon as he gets back. Something would have to go very wrong for him to pick one of his other options-- although he really could see himself as a Blue Devil…

and UniCameral-- I too thought you were a boy. So sorry. I thought you sounded a lot like my son in your reasoning and decision process…

Good afternoon cruisers!!! Today’s special is… Margaritas!! We have a few options, a traditional Margarita, a “Cadillac” Margarita, a fun blood orange Margarita, and for those of you who are showing some effects from sitting in that lounge chair so long we have a Skinny Margarita.

S3 is back to school today after a week off. I believe today is the first day of the 4th quarter. The team has their last league tennis match this week and then next week is the league tournament, followed by team playoffs.

Uni: good luck with your decision. Every time I came home and told my dad what I wanted to major in, no matter what it was, he told me that is was stupid and everyone who did that hated it. One day I realized that he didn’t know everything.

Congratulations to those with decisions and good luck to those still deciding. I think probably everybody would benefit from the on-deck sunset yoga class on the far deck. Namaste.

Forget yoga; I want one of those blood-orange margaritas!

I’m really hoping ds comes straight home and we can start shuttling some of these schools! But the mail today made me sad. Housing info from the in-state option we’re turning down (but where his gf is going), letter from the president of the top-notch LAC with the best FA that we’re turning down. And then a request to apply next year at a CTCL. Huh??? Oh, and my dh got something about continuing ed from an online school. … And yet, the best piece of mail was the renewed FA offer from the no. 1 choice since he was a child. WOOT!

Uni: If I remember your primary choices correctly, all of them are challenges to most every student. You know yourself best regarding which environment and educational and social opportunities are with each. Let us know how further conversations go. Feel free to ask us if you need more information cause many of us are alum or have kids at your school choices too. Virtual foster parent hugs to you. If your Dad didn’t love you, he wouldn’t care where you went. It sounds like he cares.

Feel free to relax down on a lounge chair, and I’ll bring you a big glass of milk.
And a cookie.

YDS, great news about the FA!

NerdyDad, bright side of MIT FOR YOU not your D: maybe we’ll be able to have a Boston parents group that meets in real time. That’s got to be worth a few thousand, right? ;)

Like hearing your strategy whether it is one or not, SomeOldGuy. It makes a lot of sense.

MommyDearest, congrats on Commodore status. Vandy’s a big favorite.

MomofBoston, I am just impressed that you didn’t enter with a strong reminder that they were all on lockdown only a few hours before. Some seriously impressive restraint going on.

I agree with the other parents who believe that this is your dad’s way of saying he is sorry you’re leaving. Since this is all virtual, Uni, I will add to DDHM’s offerings and bring you a new iPad, loads of junk food, and a pink tutu so your gender will now be permanently fixed in my mind. Not that boys don’t wear pink tutus…

Reporting for duty: Trigger is pulled. He’s headed to G e o r g e t o w n!

Oh man! There was a sudden whosh of albatross feathers that just erupted out of my keyboard. Were they from your shoulder YDS?

Congrats to your DS! :D

I just realized that my referral of the albatross sticks to our nautical theme.
It is from Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner”:

“Ah ! well a-day ! what evil looks
Had I from old and young !
Instead of the cross, the Albatross
About my neck was hung.”

Hoya Saxa! DC is a wonderful place to be a college student and YDS-son’s future alma mater probably would have been high on Devil Child’s list if it didn’t suffer from a bad case of TCTH (too close to home).

It was meant to be; I had a Rime of the Ancient Mariner poster on my wall as a kid.

Y’all were reading Coleridge. I was watching this.

[Monty Python - Albatross - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

YDS - Georgetown! Yay! Congrats on the decision! Man, Georgetown… makes me wish I could go back to school just to go there. Great choice!

Someoldguy - like!

:D Me: {Rolling across deck on roller skates}

Collecting all Used Albatrosses! Collecting all Used Albatrosses!
Place them on my tray! What? It’s not dead yet?

Midnight Buffet to feature BBQ Albatross on a Stick.
YDS, do you still have that poster so we can decorate the wall behind buffet table?

BBQ Albatross on a Stick? So, I gather you’ve been to the Minnesota State Fair before?

Congrats on Vandy, MommyDearest!! :)

And it’s good to know that some more of us are {best Pinnochio voice} real mommies (and daddies)

nerdyDad - I’d think hard before making that choice!

LOL momofboston - you definitely are smart!

I want to go to the yoga class where they teach you not to drop your margarita… which deck is that on?

YDS - funny how it’s hard to turn down the school I was rooting against! My best friend’s kid also got the full ride that S13 is turning down and accepted it… so it could have been a whole different level of bonding.

Yay for good mail, though :D

We got mail today. It said “You only had to do the work for semester 1 in your correspondence course, dodohead. Don’t send the rest back to us.” That’s hours of work - because he didn’t read the directions. What is he upset about? They returned his survey with everything else and aren’t counting his opinions/recommendations. I can’t believe I’m sending this kid out into the world.

YDS Yay on the decision and the school!!

S13 is using The Rime in his senior composition :).

It would be deep-fried albatross at the Texas State Fair.

I remember the poster being designed for a black light, but I didn’t have a black light.

Oh yah, cause it is too hard to get the stick into the Lutefisk.

Well…Hi!! I’m sticking my head in for a bit! It’s been wild here. D13 just is not ready to send back any of her cards…even though she knows she won’t attend them…I keep telling her that someone else is probably on a WL and wants that spot…I think this whole college thing is becoming so REAL that she doesnt want to commit…does that make sense? and, she really wants to get off a WL herself, so that’s it. I told her I have to write a check for one of them…

drmom, as today is “Stop Nagging Me” day, I’m afraid you’ll just have to pull up a lounge chair, sip a blood-orange margarita, and trust in the College Fates that got you this far… I’m sure there’s a masseuse around here somewhere, too.

Ahem, may I remind all cruisers that there will be no killing, grilling, or frying of the Albatross aboard the SS Indecision, because it brings horrible luck. When the Mariner kills the albatross, the ship is becalmed, the mariner goes nowhere and (perhaps more important to all on board our ship) there is nothing to drink!!: “Water, water, every where/And all the boards did shrink; Water, water every where/Ne any drop to drink.”
