Parents of the HS Class of 2013

Good point EastGrad

Is that an iceberg?

YDS, congrats on decision!

YDS- Congrats on DS’s fantastic choice, Georgetown! I feel the same way about the mail from the very close second and third. I would have had a heart attack sending D to one very far away choice but I liked it so much. She is having trouble declining #3. Number two was such a close second that she had to sever her emotions from it right away. I left a tiny bit of my heart at #2 in Chicago. The safer choices that offered nice landing spots also tugs at me. Jeez graduation is going to be tough when I am sentimental about places D hasn’t actually attended!

Mommyd- Horray for Vandy!

Albatross- Reminds me of my dad’s love for all things Monty Python! Thanks SOG, I am forwarding it to him! He will love it! :)

I can’t keep everyone’s schools straight. Can we have a little list here for us in then end?

wherenext, I agree; we need a list. I’m assuming those of you who can keep it all straight are on the FB group?

Ds wrote generic no, thanks notes to four schools but did a personal one to the ad rep who went above and beyond.

Ok. Here I am…I have been lurking here and on the 3.0 to 3.3 thread for several months and I have to say I love this thread and all of you with your fantastic attitudes and senses of humor. DS has decided on a school and it has been a wild ride with many ups and downs. Will you all let me join you for the 4 year college ride on the USS Decision Has Been Made aka USS DHBM? You seem like a very fun and non-judgmental group that I would love to be a part of. Thanks for all the hours of reading your previous posts!

Welcome privateschoolluv - you are in a great company, but you do realize you are serving now ???
DS has made his decision yesterday and he has accepted the P scholarship at D
So I am joyfully inviting all of you remaining on the lounge chairs to come down to my private wine cellar…wine in abundance, and some moonshine too ;)

Hi All! No drinks for me right now… too late. Always on here late… Just got back late tonight from Blue Devil Days - Greek, was your son there?? We had a pretty good time, and are arrmed with even more info, but it does feel different to attend an event like this as an “already decided” student who is not provided with a host student. Also on the downer list: he had some tennis planned with a club team member who had to cancel, and our meeting with the mock trial member never materialized. :frowning: I dreaded the long drive home. At least we didn’t hit traffic in DC, but we did hit complete standstill construction only 5 miles from our house!!

It’s amazing to see all the wonderful schools, kids, and parents on here! I know no one in “RL” (real life) who has even heard of CC. I’m so surprised at that and wonder how they did this all alone??

privateschoolluv - welcome aboard!

uni - I always imagined you as a girl! Good luck with your dad, you’ve gotten great feedback!

Kelowna - P at D! I have to look back at your S’s options to figure it out! :)

my3: Good to see you hanging around here late night again. Glad you had a good time at Duke, but sorry about the downers.

Just checking in briefly to say hello and congrats to everyone…seems like that’s all I do! (We are right there with those of you waiting for Stanford this week and then the big decision.) S has been wearing his various shirts and driving people crazy. Friday was Yale. Today was MIT day. He’s trying to figure out what feels right, maybe?

uni: Maybe we’ll bump into you in CA-have fun and try to forget all of the stuff your dad said and keep an open mind. Who knows? Maybe you will end up loving Stanford more (in which case he will want you to attend MIT after all)?! It will all work out in the end!

Kelowna: Great choice! You must be so proud (and so relieved to have the decision made)!

Mommydearest: Vanderbilt has been a great favorite here. I envy you guys!

YDS: Wow, Georgetown!

Love the ‘stop nagging me day’! (Well, as long as my S doesn’t have the nerve to vocalize the sentiment. I’m sure he thinks it all the time. I know DH does!)

Uni-don’t be too hard on your dad. Last night at dinner, I was telling my son about the flight times and dates for his trip to Paris this summer. He said, “just think mom, it is exactly two months away!” Before I could censor my thoughts, I blurted out, “I try not to.” Upon such a horrible statement, I quickly started gushing about how great it would be - and it will. It is a wonderful opportunity for him which I support wholeheartedly. The reality of him being gone is truly hitting me like a ton of bricks. I have raised him to be a truly independent young man and now it is time for him to leave, the world awaits him! Emotionally, it is just hard. Your dad may be going through that. At the end of the day, you are who you are in part because of the environment in which you were raised. It could just be your dads clumsy way of saying, “I love you!”

I must ditto privateschoolluv. This is the most supportive thread on cc. :D

Congrats in all the great decisions! Condolences on the “procrastinators”. Do you think that Stanford waits until the end so that they get to have the last word? ;)

Definitely don’t kill the albatross!! LOL who knows what would happen if all the parents were becalmed? ;)

privateschoolluv - you should have waited a day before telling us there was a decision – enjoy the lounge chair (I actually considered doing that because I was so tired the night S13 decided… I’m even virtually lazy!) :D

Kelowna - congrats on a decision! I can’t even imagine how you must feel about the colleges that won’t be attended…

my3gr8 - glad you had a productive time but sorry it wasn’t all it could have been. I think S13 felt a little bit the same at our last visit, more like it’s real life and less like a fantasy. Which isn’t bad, but is different.

I agree with you too - I feel so bad for the people who don’t know you guys!

I think Stanford waits until the end because they can. They don’t have to schedule with anyone else, and they don’t have to do any tricks or whatever, they’re Stanford. I mean that in the sense of confidence, not attitude, if that makes any sense.

I go here when I can’t remember who’s going where: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/1380933-class-2017-list-acceptances-h-s-2013-a-38.html</a> – but it’s not completely up-to-date (hint hint).

^^I think it’s deliberate…for a lot of kids, their favorite school is the last one they saw!

We now take you to Durham for exclusive footage of local reaction to Kelowna’s news.

Twelve Days of Decisions:

On the sixth day of decisions, S13 said to me:
“I kinda like the city”
“STOP Nagging Me!”
“Do they have my major?”
“Silly mascot”
“Too many loans!”
“But Mom, I still love my safety…”

Confetti, is he really still not decided?

Kelowna - Congratulations! How on earth did he decide?

MommyD - Congratulations - love Vandy!

YDS - Yaay Georgetown - congratulations!

The SS now has more folks walking around (or rollerblading) than sitting and deliberating. Serving strong, hot coffee this morning with an assortment of pastries…

Happy to serve! My drink tray is full, skates are on, and I’m ready to roll (literally)! Thanks for letting me join you!

Welcome privateschool! I must admit that I envy you a little - I am no good on skates…
