Parents of the HS Class of 2013

Quite right. Do they also still sell the tee-shirts that say, “My sister decided against college. She went to Ohio University instead.”?

I’m woefully behind, but just checking in to say that the last day of school was yesterday and the last AP test ends in less than 3 hours. Then D2 is done, done, done!

Rob - Congratulations! I am so jealous…but mostly just happy for you and your D.

kelbee - I have been burned on several occasions with online flowers being “close to dead on arrival” or “closed and never open” or just the wrong stuff. I would advise against it unless you find a florist with a great reputation and track record. Even then it can be stress inducing until they arrive.

confetti - I am sure I will be bored once my kids are both gone. But I have a nephew who is a rising senior in high school who could really use my help. I saw him last night at a family dinner and he is interested in Indiana or Purdue although his stats are at the lower end of the spectrum for both schools. I will be next year’s kelbee helping out my DN.

D is a good test taker and usually is “right on” when it comes to assessing her performance. Exceptions were the SAT II’s which were a real challenge for her.

Also, D is taking everything on the list in June (uhm, plus more) and since she has to stay there for 7 weeks the list is reasonable. I trust that at the end the program the school will have mercy on the kids (there are only 20 of them in her program) and let them store whatever they bring “within reason”.

Is it Friday yet!!

Um, it’s been about a week since I’ve been able to check in…so extremely busy around her between me finishing one of my online MBA classes and staying home from work for two days due to bronchitis, and all the end of senior year stuff happening! Our DD has her last final today, Baccalaureate is Friday night and graduation is Saturday morning. Our immediate family is going out to lunch after graduation, and her senior lock-in is from 10:30 pm – 5:30 am Sunday morning. DH is picking her up since they can’t drive.

Hopefully I can keep more up-to-date with this thread and start putting together a packing list!

Good morning! I guessed they moved us to a new section! I hope everyone can find it.

Last AP for DS today. He LOVES Econ so I think he will do well.

I’m a lurker, but popping in to add my son to the list.

S had last day of classes today! Just has a late AP in a week due to two last week scheduled at the same time. Graduation on the 30th! Congrats to all of us.

There is now an announcement on the Parents forum for everyone to see:

[College Confidential - Announcements in Forum : Parents Forum](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/announcements.html)

^ great idea!

This thread has been moved!

High school runs well into June in New Jersey, so I’m jealous of those whose kids are graduating soon. Now that APs are done, there will be a lot of school time to fill, with not a lot to fill it. I recall for my S a few years ago, there were a lot of group projects and a lot of movie watching in class post-APs.

Sorry for the intrusion - and happy last days of HS - I remember those days fondly…

I wanted to let you know that I’ve started a thread in the Community & Forum Issues - College Confidential area to discuss the CC board changing the various thread names as well as the creation of this sub-forum. Please feel free join us there to discuss the changes in an appropriate place (which avoids violating the TOS.)

This mnrning D complained that she can’t believe that her AP classes are actually continuing to assign “real work”. I told her welcome to the real world!

We went to a very nice scholarship breakfast put on by the Chamber of Commerce honoring the top5%. Third time around I am handling these events better, with less stress.

It’s been a few days, but I’ve had a busy week. I drove D1’s car to Washington, DC so that she would have transportation for her internship this summer. Took me three days but I was able to stop in Arkansas and see my extended family and check on my farm. D1 arrived home from 4 months in Prague last night so now I’m killing time while she has her hair cut and colored (her top priority). I fly back to Texas tomorrow. The things we do for our kids!

While I’ve been gone, I’ve missed a few senior year things - including S2 getting a large fine arts scholarship from our school district. That really helps! Also missed his last choir concert but H recorded his solo for me. Tomorrow is the choir banquet, which I might be able to make if my flight isn’t late and my cabbie drives fast. Sunday is senior awards. Man, there’s a lot going on. Only 2 1/2 weeks left for us.

OK, for a second I thought that I lost it…couldn’t find the thread ;)

Can’t believe my s is sitting here all done! Now have to think about this summer! What do your kids have planned?

My S is done as of today too! David, my S will either be working or helping me with my very long chore list. :D

Graduation is first thing tomorrow morning. My D won’t be there as she has spent this year on exchange in Spain and won’t be back until July, but I’m making the rest of the family go to it with me. They don’t really see the point. I didn’t realize how much of an effect this was going to have on me - no pictures afterwards…no party…just a graduation program to remember it by.

D has been done for over a week but we have been in Phoenix all this week for the Intel International Science Fair and D is ecstatic to have placed in her category! Unfortunately she is pretty miserable with a cold as we wait for our plane home. We are down to her last week at home as she will fly out next Friday for a summer of DCI drum corps. I’m already experiencing bouts of tears which I’m sure are going to get worse in the next seven days :frowning: It’s very disconcerting to be so happy for her and yet so sad at the same time.

D1 will be continuing her job (at a movie theater) picking up a bit more work at at an art camp, going camping in Vermont, going to some rock festival in Delaware, visiting friends on Cape Cod, going to a camping out orientation in the midwest, and generally trying to see as little of us as possible in this, her last summer home.

{sniff}
