Greekmana - enjoy the dude! and save some $$$!

Today was D last day of school - it’s bittersweet. We are flying out tomorrow morning to her college for the research program. I will be there for 2 days helping with move-in. D will be back for a couple weeks in August.

D flying home next Monday afternoon for graduation - then right back to school the next morning. I am going to miss her…

I’m experiencing a little bit of the opposite than some of you 2013 grad parents. My D went away to boarding school in Europe three years ago. I missed out on all her sports, music and social events. Right now I’m over the moon because she’s coming home and will attend a college less than an hour away from me.
I’ll share some advice about the visiting student that comes home on breaks. They will want to drop their bags at the front door and run to catch up with their friends. I made my D commit to at least one dinner or lunch with the family per week otherwise you may start to feel that your child didn’t miss you as much as they missed their friends.

Well, ds is graduated but still doesn’t have his diploma because he got put on the obligations list thanks to a “missing” govt book. Why doesn’t this surprise me? The deal is I SAW him pack up that book last week so I’m pretty sure he did turn it in. sigh

The events surrounding graduation were great. Lots of fun and family – to our surprise, we ended up hosting 16 for dinner!

Yesterday, ds1 came home from college so I have a full house. I’m one happy momma.

No Senior at my son’s graduation walked off the stage with a diploma. They were available a week later…after you cleared all accounts, cleaned out your locker, returned books, etc…

Our DS graduated May 31 and was handed an empty holder:) They don’t get their diplomas until July 9!! It is such a long time that apparently there are over 150 still sitting in the office from last year’s class!

Our kids got their diplomas as they exited the stage. The principal shook their hands and then their assigned counselor gave them the diploma - so at least the counselor knew who they were (500 in class). Name spelled correctly and everything! They did warn the kids that they would get a blank folder if they had a “hold” on their accounts. And they also made the kids turn in the final transcript request form on the last day of school. So, we’re set - shouldn’t have to have any more contact with high school.

I’m jealous of those who have already graduated. My D’s HS runs so late this year.

However, the late graduation gives me more time to work on her photo book that will be a graduation present. Working on this book is really killing me - it is really difficult to condense 18 years of life into one 100 page book. I’m trying to put in a couple of hours every night after work. I’ve been doing it for two weeks straight, and there is still a lot to do. I really should have bought a fast scanner at the start.

The thing that depresses is me is that I’m sure than once she sees the book, she will criticize what I’ve chosen to include and not include.

Sacchi! She will love it!! I did a book for my son that started with 8th grade graduation and went to HS graduation. I worked on it for 4 years adding pics as I went. It was focused on school, friends and family and I had some his friends secretly sending me pictures for the last 4 years!! He LOVED it and is not a sentimental guy:)

Good morning!!! DS got his yearbook last night. The seniors get them a day early and had a signing party in the English court. The yearbook is nice. Since DS is that “join every club” guy he was in quite a bit of it. The senior page (or I should say half-page) that we submitted turned out nice. To our surprise they used a couple of the pictures in other sections of the yearbook as well.

Diploma: D1 ('08) got her diploma when she walked across the stage, S2 ('10)got an empty folder and was to pick up the diploma over the summer. He STILL hasn’t picked up the diploma. S3 will get an empty folder. Maybe when he picks up his diploma he can pick up his brother’s as well.

Scrapbooks: I am jealous of those of you who have been on the ball enough to have made a scrapbook. That is my “empty-nester” resolution to do something with the boxes and boxes of photos.

Oh my goodness, I haven’t checked in for a month and then (like TVenee and others) couldn’t find you! for a moment I was so upset–as though you had launched another cruise ship and I had missed it. So glad to locate you again, through the info posted on the 2016 page about the new subforum.

Loved skimming through the last month’s posts. So many fun laughs and then a few tears–Tougis, the heartbreak of your daughter’s name not being announced! Megpmom, the piano. Ohhh! Balanced a little by Greekmana, the “dude theme” LOL OL OL!

DS’13 graduated last week with a class of about 400 and was one of 4 speakers. I think he did fine. Saw him graduate and DH brought a long lens–we have a wonderful series of photos of him switching his tassel–with a look of astonishment in the early photos and then a big grin at the end. He had a week of grad parties set at friends’ homes, so we are going to do a grad/going away party in August. I think I might use that series of photos on the invite. What do you think?

Thanks to you all, I have bookmarked some mattress pads. Another vote here for Amazon Prime…we’ve had it for three or four years and LOVE it (even though I try to buy local when I can).

sachi, I have the same problem. Not a scrap book, but a collage of pictures. I did one for my older daughter and even a small one for my younger son when he was in elementary school. But, when it came to DD13…she just kept criticizing all the pictures ever taken of her…so, I’ve been afraid to put them all in one collage (even though I love the pictures and want to do the same for her!)…I’m afraid she’ll just be upset by them, rather than take any pleasure in them.

Re the photo book I’m working on for my D, I think of the book as something she will have her entire life, and show to her children one day, etc., and will also give copies to the grandparents and keep one myself. So, I’m trying to include as many relatives as possible in the pictures, have pictures from throughout her life, etc., while she said that I should just go on Facebook to get recent pictures with recent friends. I’m running into page limits, so have to pick and choose what I include.

I had done a similar book for S three years ago, and I regret having so many pictures with his long-term girlfriend in the photo book, who broke up with him a few weeks after the book was finished…

I also did a digital scrapbook for my d. I only did the four years of high school but had a section for family the last 4 years - lots of pictures with her brother too. Doing a digital book allows for it to be much smaller that a traditional scrapbook. I did the traditional ones when the kids were little so she has 3 scrapbooks from childhood. Hopefully she will take the high school one with her. It is 90 pages but less than an inch thick. She was pleased to receive it and was surprised. Only complained about one picture that I included! I was very careful to only put the pics in that I knew she liked. I got many from her facebook account too. I have 2 pages with her boyfriend - just enough to be a memory but not too much!

my kid hates ALL her pictures! it’s a “thing” with her. I don’t think ALL the pictures of her are horrible! but, I plan to do a collage anyway…just when she is not here to see it! :)

Wow this thread has been quiet or else my computer is not updating it.

S finished all the online course selection info in the nick of time. I wish the college could have them do it any other time but the weeks of finals and graduation!

I know, it’s weird how quiet this thread has been compared to just a few weeks ago. Natural I guess since the college search for most of us has wrapped up. But still.

My D, too, just finished course selection but needs to complete her “Master Promissory Note” for financial aid and her medical forms (appointment not till next week).

It’s a lot to get done with finishing up senior project, graduation (2 days ago) and starting summer job…and she is tired of hearing me nag all the time. This weekend has been filled with grad parties (we are doing hers in Aug right before she leaves).

I can’t believe she will be leaving home in 9 short weeks! she is doing a pre-orientation trip so starts really early. Yikes.

I’m pretty sure the thread is quiet because we’ve been moved to the “suburbs” aka the new Class of 20xx Community sub group.

Not much going on here. We head off to D2’s orientation later in the week. She’s been diligently looking at Gen Ed requirements, major requirements, AP credit policies, etc. Then looking up schedules and Rate my professor reviews. She’ll find out her room assignment and roommate name on Friday (it’s a coincidence that we’ll be there, that’s the day all freshmen find out.) We’ll start dorm shopping after we see her room layout during orientation.

I was wondering myself, why so quiet. I was figuring it may be due to Father’s day, Graduations “stuff” and for some, summer? My DD doesnt have orientation till the very end of August. She’s still on one WL which, she told them that if they take her, she will go…but, they may not tell her either way till the end of June…in either case, the Start dates and orientations are the same…which, I guess is good. She will be a camp counselor this summer at her sleep away camp…she leaves end of this week…comes back a week before Orientation…I am not really “figuring all this out yet”…so rushed! So soon!
