<p>Oh I’ve missed you guys! I didn’t dare come on between a huge project at work and graduation because I knew how long I would spend – and every day that got longer :eek:. I’ve read everything but am not doing a month-long “confetti-style” response (I can hear the sighs of relief lol). </p>
<p>I really enjoyed reading all the prom/awards/graduation stories. S13 had a great time at prom with the ex-girlfriend, who has become the re-girlfriend. Which is good - although I would prefer no long-distance relationship attempts in a perfect world, they really are a good couple and it’s fun to see them enjoying this last summer.</p>
<p>S13 didn’t get any local scholarships, which disappointed me, but he did get both of the major band awards - both the John Philip Sousa for band and the Louis Armstrong for jazz. He also did an orchestral movement piece for his Music Theory project that had 26 instruments (!!). That was awesome.</p>
<p>I am very misty-feeling. Not sad, yet, but feeling the coming of sadness and hanging on to every little thing. S13 is starting to feel it, too. He actually hugged me in public a few times. In front of his friends, yet.</p>
<p>I didn’t even think about getting him his own insurance card, so thanks for that. Since he turned 18, I have gone to the dentist and two doctors with him and made him fill out the “I can see your health stuff” forms - and put him on ours, too. DH won’t sign them for himself but I did for me and D15. No sense in family not being able to deal with medical issues.</p>
<p>Cute story - I told him we’re not buying university insurance (almost $2K!) and I found him a doctor close to campus on our insurance, and health services has a shuttle that will take him there.
S13: What for?
Me: If you get sick. Like if you get strep throat or an ear infection.
S13: I thought if I got sick, I’d come home. Can’t I do that?
Me: {brimming with tears} Of course you can, but in case you change your mind or need to be there for something special…</p>
<p>It’s only 2 1/2 hours, so I probably would go get him, too.</p>
<p>I am really relieved that S13 doesn’t have summer work and his orientation is right before school starts. He says he actually feels rested for the first time. Placement tests are done except for the ones on campus. Since he’ll be double-majoring and the two majors are in different colleges, I can’t figure out what his language placement means (in one college, he’d be done, in the other, not). Ditto for AP credit. So I guess we just have to wait to get his advisor’s name and go from there.</p>
<p>Parent’s forum, at the college? How could I not have thought about that? I must go find one…</p>
<p>S13 had an abysmal showing on his AP tests. That’s his opinion, not mine. I wasn’t nearly as optimistic as he was, since he has never been successful on College Board tests. But he finishes with 4 3’s and 4 4’s, which probably won’t give him any more credit. On the up side, one of his majors in is the College of Science, so he might have had to make that a lessor major in order to get credit for the science APs (it’s a different Chem and Physics for College of Science majors). Now he doesn’t have to worry about that so much. He’s irritated about Calc BC, though - he set the curve in his class all second semester and half those kids got 5’s and he got a 3. Hopefully they still let him take the math placement test this fall.</p>

And remember this key fact…when talking about one’s “pants” they don’t mean “pants.” They mean underwear! I’ve made that mistake a time or two! :o</p>
