S3 just left for the SAT. He drove himself. He wanted to go out with friends last night but I made him stay in. Tonight is Prom.

Perizzaman, that’s a heck of a load. My D has had straight As every quarter of every year since they started giving letter grades, save one B+ in 4 th grade math one quarter. We tease her endlessly about the B+. She had three APs and honors physics this year. Next year she’s got 5 APs and anatomy. I’m worried about that load as a senior, and your S did it as a junior? Wow. Good for him!! He really proves how tough junior year can be. Well deserved summer break for him!
Annie, there’s a cold here too. Robitussin cold and cough seems to be working. I have to say D always seems to play soccer better when she’s sick or tired- don’t ask me why!- so this morning I thought. “hmmm… This could be a good thing!” and oddly, today she was more relaxed though so perhaps it really will work for her- who knows! I love your parking lot tale though. That’s great! Lightening the mood had to be good.
We are without soccer games til August. So many things I should do, so few I want to start. It’s weird to have the whole weekend free! of course S17 is flabbergasted that I told him I’m not going to go get half his soccer team and take them to an amusement park two hours away today. He just stomped back upstairs to pout. Obviously his grasp of reality and mine differ a tad. I told him I’ll take a day off this summer and do it. With prior planning and an earlier start to the day…

Ahsmuoch, I believe Pre AP is the same as Honors at some schools. Apparently, one cannot sign up for AP classes without them at our school. Hence, the designation, Pre AP. An A earns a 5 on the weighted GPA. Next year he takes AP Physics & AP Calculus.

Rough pre-SAT morning here. Couldn’t find calculator (ended up using S17’s). Couldn’t find ticket. Grumpy. Too much pressure…

Hope they all do beautifully!

Just picked up D from SATII math 2—she was at a different school “they have carpeting!” – She said it was the hardest test ever! she left out 5 and Thought a couple others were tricky. “now I have to take 3 SAT II’s in November”.(I am not sure I agree with that plan)…I think it has a “good curve” though…I told her “as long as you tried your best”…she went right from there to teach her dance class and get them ready for recital…she at least seemed rested and calm. I think a big break in the summer will help all of this.

Nice sunshine today! Have a good day.

Just dropped off at sat. Catching up on you guys.

Annie-fingers crossed for D. My D in same boat! She got a zero on a 15 point assign because she did not write directly to the prompt. She blew it and. Ow she is .06 away from an A. She has been fighting for the A all semester. Hardest teacher in the school but D has tested great because of it.

General Public band member went to my high school and before being in GP used to play HS parties. He dated my roomate in college. He is now a Christian minister and music director in OC. He had very wild times in UK and the world though! A girl at college became very popular be ause her dad was an actor and she got to go to a premier with Duran Duran. Every time I saw her I thought of that! Love all the music talk.

D may take one more subject test in Oct only for overseas applications, if she doesn’t get 4 or 5 on AP tests. Otherwise, this is her last test!

Glad D liked tulane! Kids here definitely have it on their lists.

Good luck to all on sports tests and dealing with bored and burned out kids!

drmom, no school wants more than three. She definitely doesn’t need to take three more unless her combination of schools asks for some crazy combinations of SAT IIS. Glad she sounds reasonable confident. Guess I’ll leave in about 15 minutes to get ds. I always am too optimistic about how long these will take and end up sitting around forevern.

D2 drove herself to the testing center. She still asked me for directions despite driving there a few times. She only takes Math 2 subject tests and no Physics. She will take Physics later for some schools in the UK. Aparently for some majors/schools Math and one science subject are needed(I think I looked up engineering at UCLA and MIT), US History does not count. Good luck to all test takers!

Poor DD13a had a late night and a very early morning to take the SAT IIs. Had to be at a downtown school at 7:45. She said the math II was okay. Said their were nine questions that she had to go back to and thinks she got those right but it’s iffy. Maybe she should have studied? huh. She thought the US History test was pretty easy. Apparently there was one question about Jimmy Carter that she didn’t know the answer to… I find that pretty funny.

Dance recital today and I need to go to the gym. I haven’t worked out in a week.

Good luck to all the test-takers today!

I’m currently waiting for S2 to wake up to take him for a haircut and shoe shopping. He leaves Tuesday for 3 weeks so I’m trying to let him experience “summer” until then - sleeping in, going out with friends til wee hours, playing non-stop video games. I don’t think I could do a whole summer of this but 4 days? - sure. He did go visit his grandparents yesterday and took his grandmother to the opera, so he got lots of “good boy” points for that.

Once S2 leaves we will be empty nesters for most of the summer (he’s home for 4th of July week). D1 is living in first apt. and working in DC this summer. I’m having fun sending her care packages - each month I include a new recipe and all the ingredients (non-perishable) to cook it. It’s helping her stock her new kitchen.

Blueshoe and wherenext, your poor kids. I hate how hard they work only to be thwarted at the end by fractions of a point. Here it’s also just up to the teachers who round up and who won’t. Same classes with different teachers can be very different in grades because of that and extra credit. Then some add " teacher discretion points" when they choose.

S13 is officially able to lay low for the next 4 weeks until he leaves for the rest of the summer! No more school, no more tests, no more nothing! He said he feels good about the Math and Physics well see on June 21!

We submitted his photo for his first college I.D. yikes! Also got his first college invoice my heart about stopped with I saw the tuition cost of $7,000, THEN I saw the scholarship for $7,000!

Megp great idea about the care packages those spices and stuff add up!

Walker my gym schedule was all whack this week. I only made it twice kickboxing today nearly killed me! I think Im going to be hurting tomorrow!

DrGoogle I had to do the same with my S even though this is his third time driving there. He always had his nose in a book when I drove him around, so he never paid attention how to get anywhere. I couldnt believe when he started driving that he didnt know his way to places wed been a million times. Now my 8yo could tell you exactly where to turn to get anywhere.

Reeinaz lol at your flashdance look! I think Ill keep my pics locked away!

Steve congrats to your D on qualifying for state!

STEM I hope you get some answers from the bloodwork and hope its nothing too serious!

The sun is out again today, so were going to watch the softball state finals!

89wahoo, thank you for your kind words. I just wanted to cry for her as well. Teacher will not help her out. She is a storied teacher with very high standards who has long taught honors English at D’s school. This is the first year AP Lang has ever been taught at the school and of course she was the teacher they went to for the inaugural course. D knew going in it would be rough (brother had same teacher for honors class), but she had no idea…

wherenext, I expect that your S is up for the challenge of playing with the more experienced group! Let us know how he does!

STEMFamily, I’m so glad that you took your D to the doctor. I hope that the condition is easily resolved so that she can start her senior year in confidence.

89wahoo, calculators, ID, admission tickets… while waiting for our kids to go in we’ve had to help heir friends out on occasion. Fortunately, no disasters this time so fewer flustered teens. So funny about the amusement park! That’s our role in life, isn’t it? To chauffeur them around?

SteveMA, congratulations to your DD for qualifying for the state tournament!

anniezz, sorry about your DD’s cold, seems to be a lot of that around just now. Both mine have just got over colds.

re the '80’s: D dressed up in a brightly colored cropped shirt (off one shoulder), a head band and tights with leg warmers for hallowe’en one year. I guess she thought the '80’s workout look was pretty scary? I think that H still has some 8 track tapes in storage!

Great grades, Perazziman!

BerneseMtn, so sorry about your ankle.

Blueshoe and wherenext, I’m sorry your kids are so close and yet so far! So frustrating. But perhaps there’s an essay subject there (have to look on the bright side). I agree with 89wahoo that teachers make all the difference. Same course description but completely different grading and expectations. I hope that they can make those extra fractions of a point necessary!

Just finished a beautiful trail run while waiting for D to finish test. I am obviously early! YDS I am sure it is nice to be done! Can’t wait for school to wind up! Mine doesnt have lisence yet and doesn’t care if she ever does…uggg!

Thanks for the comment Wahoo and keeping fingers, legs and eyes crossed that AP English final kicks D into her A! blueshoes, any chance? At first I thought we were at the same school until I saw 1st year teaching. D’s 30 years very nice but as S says a B-Breaker (:

lol wherenext! S would say the same about D’s teacher which was also his! D’s teacher has taught 30+ years, but first year of AP Lang. Wishing both our D’s the best of luck!

Thanks Fred!

D2 called and said the proctor was weird and caused her confusion. She did ok but not great. She did great at home. So I assure her if it’s really bad, she can retake it again, not because of the low scores but because the condition of the test day was messed up. I told her not to worry because all her scores would be going to safeties where they accept more than 50%. Not sure I should call to complain to Collegeboard or not.

Word in my house is that the Literature SAT II was “super easy” and that D’s timing was off for the US History SAT II but that she got it done. Guess we’ll see on June 21st
Much like YDS said ah, the optimism of youth. The SAT II prep book never got opened. Sigh.

No stress or boredom here right now. Boredom may arrive soon though. But I have remedies for that.

Planning on taking advantage of the amazing day we’re having here in a little while. Enjoy the weekend everyone!

S3 is home. Feels good about the test (but of course he is a “half-full” type of guy). So we will see.

Congrats to all of the weary SAT and SAT II takers today! The torture (at least for this school year) is now over! (unless they are taking the ACT like my Step-D next week and then…I take that back. lol)

Beautiful day here too. I live near Vandy and 89Wahoo so we had the monumental rains and storms last night, but no damage (that I can see) when I woke this morning. The dogs were quite concerned for about 30 mins, but then settled down and went back to sleep. ha ha

At the very least, Vandy, Wahoo, and I are going to get together this time next year and celebrate that we are done with this whole stressful monster. We’ll send the rest of you pics (I promise lol.) Ree- you are in PA, probably not far, so come on OVER as well! ha ha

I love whomever posted “We should get together and not in a basement.” LOL!

Love all of the music talk too. I haven’t thought about WHAM or the Go-Gos in a long time!

Happy weekend everybody.
