I know that what I’m about to share will probably give away my identity if there’s anyone from Connecticut or my town on this board, because this was a very heavily publicized event which I was a part of and there was a lot of publicity in my area (Central Connecticut) about the speakers and about me speaking also.

Last night I had the opportunity of speaking in front of a sold out crowd (over 3,000 people) about what I want to do in life and how that ties back to women and how far we’ve gotten (and what we still need to do). It was a life changing moment. I was able to meet and talk with Gloria Steinem, Ashley Judd, Michelle Bernard, Connie Schultz, and Michel Martin. I knew who all of them were beforehand anyway, so I had many questions to ask them. I was able to have dinner with them and everything. After I spoke they all hugged me and gave me kisses and afterwards when I went back stage they, as well as everyone else, started chanting my name and everyone outside of the theater told me I did an amazing job and Ashley Judd and Michelle Bernard even talked about how well I did when they sat back down on stage. It was honestly the best night of my life, and I just needed to tell you all about it.

Anyway, I’m going to be finishing some applications later on tonight. I have to shrink my resume more, but then I’m finally finished! I’m so excited!

I still can’t believe that all happened last night. It was really, truly, a life changing experience. And I actually did cry several times because I was so happy. It was amazing!

Swizzle, that is really wonderful! I’m so happy for you.
Gotta tell you, I feel like you have plenty of virtual 'rents on here cheering for you and wishing you lots of good things ahead. :)

Update on the application that needs to be in by Monday, and the worries about payment delaying the submission - D got a fee waiver from the school! So that’s one less worry. :)

Hi, all, so much happens when you miss a few days.

Napalm: yes, S13 received the ASU mailing. I opened it since I know they give good NMF $$ & was surprised by the ticket. ASU not on S13’s radar so I don’t think he will go for the visit, though it is tempting since his aunt, uncle & cousins live in Phoenix. I imagine they do a pretty rigorous hard sell of why ASU if they are flying kids out who haven’t expressed any interest.

Engineering schools with lower ACT scores: may want to tell your friend to look at state schools that are not flagship. Many have engineering programs (some are 3-2 but some have their own) that may require lower ACT for admission. I would hesitate to tell someone that Engineering isn’t for your kid, but rather they may have to search harder to find the right program. Also, they might consider Jr. college for 2 years & then transfer. Not popular in our neck of the woods but may serve them better in the end.

anniezz - great news on the waiver! No issues for payment being in on time :)

swizzle - that is SO awesome! What an unbelievable experience for you, to meet AND HAVE DINNER WITH!! some influential women. I bet they had as much fun as you, and really enjoyed meeting you, too! :D

Help…silly question here, but this is my first go around at this stuff so bear with me.

My S did the online app with Univ of Alabama on 9/27. However, by looking at his myBama account, he doesn’t think his GC has sent his official HS transcript, so I guess this means that he won’t be officially accepted until that is received? S also thinks that Bama accepts ACT/SAT scores as listed on the HS transcript, but I have debated this with him. I don’t want to pay to have it sent if I don’t have to.

And does this mean he can’t work on the scholarship app until then??

On a side note: We travelled to University of Arkansas a few weeks back if anyone would like information on the school (our home flagship). We plan on Ole Miss for 10/27 and Alabama around mid-November and then we’re done…is anyone else going to the Scholar’s Weekend at Ole’ Miss?

Glad to read so many good news here. Congrats everyone!

My S is still stuck on his app essay. App form is filled in half way. SAT scores haven’t been sent out yet. Don’t know when the LoRs will be ready. I have more pressures than him because the deadline for ED is approaching. He’s so busy for his IB courses and another SAT in Nov. I have so many questions to ask whoever have the experience about this. Please help me for the below:

Should we send the free SAT reports right now? S took SAT II on Oct. 6 and the free reports will be expired on Oct.15th.

If he points 4 recipients to send his scores, will they receive all the SAT I and II and AP scores?

When is the latest date that he should send out the scores for ED? He supposed to wait for his score of SAT II coming out this month.

Who is responsible to send out the school’s transcripts?

Re: Alabama
It will say on his mybama account the date the transcript was received and he will not be accepted until they have the transcript. The scores need to be sent directly from ACT or the College Board (SAT). It states this on the UA application and it will show the date the scores are received on his mybama account as well.

He can apply for scholarships in the meantime. There is a link, again, from the academic page (check out the tabs on top) on his mybama site. There will be no honors link or ability to deposit until after acceptance.

The process goes slower, the later it gets. Make sure those test scores get sent asap! (It will only cost $11-they only need one set.)

U Arkansas is a nice place. I have a cousin with a son there now and he loves it. I hear Ole Miss is nice too, with a great college town. We are not from the South and S '13 feels the latter, especially, might be ‘too southern’, whatever that means! It will be interesting to hear how you think they compare to Alabama after your visits are done.

Hey everyone! I have a question, so due to some poor communication (on my part!) my transcripts have been sent off before my applications; will this prove to be a problem? They were sent online on Thursday. I expect to have all of those schools applied to by the end of the month…

Jazzii, that’s not a problem…probably better, in fact. My S had transcripts sent early to some schools…they matched them up with his app once received. Same with test scores.

Congratulations Swizzle!!! That is so totally cool and awesome! I am very happy for you. Are you going to be able to weave any of that into your applications? You deserve it. We are all so happy to have your wonderful comments on the parents side of things. Best of luck!

Thank you critter for the quick reply re: alabama app. I guess I am going to have to step in and advocate so that transcript gets off asap…will also have score sent.

Did anyone else get two U Chicago t-shirts? I think somehow DSs got on two different lists, but got the same shirt twice. Same “call me maybe” letter just one dated August and the other dated September. Now we have enough for the whole family! DS13 2 commented, “they must really want me!” Sorry buddy. I think they are testing your honesty!!! Better email that rep and let him know. ;-)
