SteveMA - I don’t recall, but what is your friend’s twins’ home state? And how far would they be willing to travel to school?

Impatiently waiting on class ranks to come out here. They were supposed to be out this week so of course that means Friday.

DD needs to make a couple of minor changes to her CA essay and will submit one (maybe 2) EA school(s) this weekend. Teachers have not filled out LOR online yet!

Bedtime: DD has a senior seminar this year which is mostly a free block so she doesn’t seem to have as much homework at night. Good thing since most days she doesn’t get home until 6:30 from Crew. She is usually in bed by 11pm.

mommaof5~ Lots of hugs and cocktails go out to you from So Cal

Welcome all new parents…and kids ;)

Jr got some good “love” yesterday. Big fat glossy books from USC (2 actually, one for the school and the other for Marshall Business), Duke, SMU and The U (Miami). He also rec’d a personal email from the Dean of Admissions from Princeton. He told Jr that he was contacting him based on his high ACT score. They have a phone call set up for next week.

I know I must sound like a broken record…but I swear…he is getting closer to pushing the button on HMFR #1. His CC is VERY adamant that his essay’s be perfect as they will most likely make the difference. He is scheduled to work with her all day on Sat.

Happy Friday everyone!!!

Welcome, 1Rachel! As drmom123 says we know some stuff about this process, but are pretty realistic about our kids, and very supportive of each other and the students on “our” thread :)

MDMom1314 - I always thought if one of our girls would be able to go to an Ivy, I would hope it would be Princeton, just based on what I’ve read about it. No transfers at all, and it just seems like a great place. Good luck to your S!

Finally watched Modern Family last night. Lol on a lot of the scenes, and had to use kleenex for the last ones. Even made my DH come in and watch. That will be really tough when it’s our turn to drop of kids at school :(

…and, once again, I have to mention that the “HMFR” abbreviation still cracks me up! :D

Our2girls~ LOL…thanks When you are looking at a list like Jr’s that is pretty much all that comes to mind. Plus…I think it sounds catchier than “Lottery” school ;)

Checking in.

LOVED Modern Family. Especially Phil’s-osophy! “If you Love Something Set it Free, Unless it is a Tiger”.

S3 got a 97 on his Calc test. Woo too!!

I’m taking a break from mowing the lawn, and of course needed to catch up on CC. But I was perplexed by the use of the acronym HMFR. I hate when people ask for the meaning in a thread, so to show how smart I was, I did a google search.

Nothing.

Then I went to the abbreviations thread. Nothing.

Then a light bulb turned on and I knew what the F stood for, so I figured all I needed to do was a google search on HMR.

Still nothing.

Finally I did a search for HMFR on THIS thread…and I agree…it’s hysterical!! Love it!!

Back to mowing the yard.

DD got home with class rank 9/450ish. Top 10! Apparently there is quite of bit of clumping in the ranks. DD’s friend, who has around 4.3, is #17 and another girl who has a 3.3 is #95. Yes, there are a bunch of kids at the school who will barely graduate.

MDMom, my D loved Princeton too. The HMFR aspect of it, coupled with the fact that for whatever reason, her school does not seem to get kids into HPY lead her to say forget it. Of course, UNC is probably just as much of a HMFR.
Dragon, that’s fabulous! Congratulations! I always wonder where the 3.0- 3.3 kids actually fall… hang around here too long and you think there might be one or two kids with that GPA, you know? ;)

Greek - it only shows that for certain schools (only one of six in my S’13’s case) - for others it says that the app or supplement must be submitted before payment can be made.

What about paying online at the school? Have you checked to see if you can do that so you can pay before everything is done on the CA? Maybe even paying the old fashioned way–mail a check :D.?

Even being able to pay the school directly online is a rarity. The only school on my son’s list with this option is Beloit. And I read that one of the changes next year for the CA is that it’s taking the paper option away completely.

I don’t see how that would help for the schools that explicitly state that the app or supplement must be submitted before payment can be made. Most seem to want the supplement first - if they wanted the app first, we’d be good! They could just set it up to take the payment first as some of them do, so I can’t imagine they would take it in another form (check, direct cc payment) if the CA isn’t complete.

I just think it’s hilarious that they don’t make it easier to take our money…lol.

On a more seious note though, I think budgeting for the fees would be easier if they could be paid as the money is available and not be dependent on the completion of any part of the application.

Hi everyone! Welcome Rachel. :)

This is going to be a squeaker weekend here. I tried every which way, and for the 10/15 school, I can’t pay until the app is submitted. I figure, if the early deadline is meant to happen, it will happen. If not, then that’s ok too. Hopefully, D either knocks it out by tomorrow and it all works out, or she’s ok with it too.

Still waiting on LORs here too.
D wants to go for a visit at one of her colleges this weekend. NO idea how that will fit in with everything else, but I"m happy that she’s even interested - this is one of the few schools on the list that’s within a few hours drive! :)

And the transcripts have been received! Whew! This has been a red letter day, as far as college stuff goes. LOR and transcripts completed on the same day. Now on to auditions. His first one is a month from yesterday.

S2 is busy this weekend. Football game tonight and he is narrating the band half-tme show for the first time. Tomorrow he has All Region choir auditions in the morning and then he has to drive straight to a band competition about an hour away. I seem to remember that he said he had something on Sunday too, but I can’t remember now. Busy boy!

Dragon - Congratulations! Great rank.

MDmom1314 - I just had to smile when you mentioned MY college, The U. It’s never mentioned on this board. LOL!! :)

Congratulations Dragon on the ranking.

Wanted to stop by and wish everyone a great weekend. I will be spending the weekend preparing for out of town guest, going to the play and hosting the cast party. I hope everyone has a safe and happy weekend.

Napalm-
S '13 got the ASU fly in offer on Thursday. He thought it was NMSF related. He got a similar offer from Pitt earlier this fall. And then there are the ones they want you to apply for…
He said “maybe they are paying for a visit but can they get me back my time?”
Good point-is it really worth it to you to visit ASU? Sometimes it is just flattering to get those kinds of offers.
