Parents of the HS Class of 2013

Everyone sitting on pins and needles is setting me on pins and needles for you. Congratulations for all the new accepts and Good Luck to everyone with a deferral.

We won’t know anything new until February. I am not sure I can make it that long. S could care less - Que Sera Sera.

Tonight is his interview with Vandy. I am a nervous wreck, he is all cool with it.

Don’t get me wrong, he wants in these schools, he has just accepted that what happens will happen. Kinda like the Sorting Hat analogy someone posted earlier.

Confetti - just want to clarify - our D was selected as an AXA finalist, not a recipient just yet…but I can hope for her! She has a LOR type supplement that someone must do for her, as well as send her hs transcripts. Not there yet as a recipient, but in the running, so thanks for the congrats!

So happy for the UofC acceptances - there are a bunch! :D

Walker and unicameral - sorry for the deferrals. I know in my heart both will get where they need to be and will shine!! :)

Congrats Dragonflygarden, dadotwoboys, mamabear, fineartsmajormom, and fredricksdottir and futureweatherman!

Enjoy the basement Walker - but remember it is just a deferral.

As far as the AP Gov goes - I am bumming that my brilliant idea  this morning is now not a possibility!!! Darn! Oh well, hopefully it is an easier AP - she tends to take all the hard ones - Calc,APUSH, Chemistry, Physics - she has never taken an “easy” AP - but she always does well - just hoping for less work second semester for her!!! Maybe she can consider not taking the AP test if she is allowed. She already has 4 others to take!

She got accepted to Butler yesterday (didn’t hear anyone else talking about it) but she was so excited “Trip” the bulldog mascot tweeted Congrats to her!!! The little things that excite a 17 year old girl!!! Their mascots (two real bulldogs) have their own twitter accounts and she has been following them for about 6 months!!!

D got accepted to U of Chicago! :)

S got accepted to U of Chicago! Including enough FA that it may actually be doable!!!

Congrats to all of the Acceptances! And good luck to all of the deferrals!

And he found out he got Football Academic All-State!

Dragonfly-The students of 2013 ROCK!!! Yay, yay, yay!

mommaof5 and wherenext—OMG! That’s is so friggin’ awesome!!!i Couldn’t be happier for you guys. Great, great, great!!!

Hang in there Walker - I know that it is very hard. Harder for us parents than the kids - I think. I didn’t take last Saturday’s deferral very well …

Having said that…S is admitted to U Chicago! Received some type of entrepreneurial fellowship . Don’t you love the fact that the financial estimates are coming in at the same time from this school ? ! :)

Congratulations all the new UChicago enrollees. Also congrats ahsmuoh on Butler, the CEO at my last job was a Butler Grad. She loved it their.

Wow- lots of Chicago here! Congratulations, everyone
Walker, I’m sorry for you and D. Remember- they land where they’re meant to be which may yet be Chicago! My children are hyper. Must be Christmas… Can I come hide in the basement too?

Weatherman–congrats on the honors college acceptance!
Kelowna–another U of C acceptance! These kids are awesome
Ahs–congratz to your DD on Butler

Walker…cyber hugs.
My sons friend got deferred from U of C. :frowning: well, nothing ventured nothing gained.

fineartsmajormom - in rereading I realized the football you were watching was ND - maybe we’ll meet at parents’ weekend someday :).

our2girls - I caught the semifinalist. Based on the requirements for that scholarship, I felt safe inferring that you’re very proud of her for making semis. I certainly am.

congrats fredricksdottir, FutureWeatherman, ahsmuoh, wherenext, mommaof5 and Kelowna!

S13 got deferred for UChicago. And then promptly went to the mall. YDS, did you feed him something?

The conversation went like this:
S reading: “…we would like to review your file again in the spring…”
Me: “Deferred.”
DH: “What does that mean?”
S: “It means I suck”
Me: “No it doesn’t”
DH: “What??”
S: “Yes, I suck”
Me: “(to DH)He’s in regular decision and will find out in the spring—(to S)No, you are the same wonderful, clever, caring, unique…”
DH: “So that’s okay, then??”
S: “They think I suck.”
S turns around from the computer, smiling: “Seriously, mom, I’m fine. I expected to get in, but that never made any sense. So I’ll get in or I won’t. I gotta go to the mall.”

I’m off to the basement. Walker, maybe we can smash some of those empty bottles? If you’re out, I’ll help empty them!

Confetti-- you crack me up (or maybe its your son?) Gosh, sorry about the delay in his acceptance until spring!;)

Confetti, classic boy conversation there. And classic H, as well.

I’ve started to pay attention to the weather forecast as both my other kids are supposed to come home Friday. I may drive up to get S on Thursday rather than let him ride home with friends Friday. The drive goes through the Lake Erie snow belt! The weather may affect our weekend visiting plans as well.

Confetti - What an attitude!!!
And agree - classic husband ;)

Mamabear I’ll be thinking of you. I have one who had a final on Friday so comiong from Colorado on Saturday morning and I’m holding my breath.

Congrats everyone who are done with those EDs and number one choice acceptances. S3 is 100% in the midwest and west and all deferrals in the NE so far. I think the lack of grade inflation at their school really hurts them when they get out of the region where the school is an unknown to the NE where all the kids seem to nail great GPAs. I didn’t think 3.8 uw was too shabby. Our school only reports unweighted GPAs and the ranking on the transcript is a straight ranking with no weight for APs. After 3 kids experience we just get nailed in the NE. Villanova just deferred him for engineering. We’ll see what happens with the two Pennsylvania schools that only have Ed and regular come spring although he has some really nice engineering acceptances in hand and who knows what will happen with the deferrals. At least now I can breath until March. S4 is playing it pretty darn close to the belt so have no idea what he’s thinking.

momofthree - I am confused. Where is your S in and where is he deferred? I read your post twice, but besides Villanova, I am confused! ha Also, in your second sentence you call him S3, but at the end S4. Do you have 4 boys or is that just a typo? I really am trying to follow along! Honest!

Swizzle!!! YAY!!! So Happy For You!!!

To everyone whom got good news from U of Chicago and Princeton today - HOORAY! What a great feeling!

Walker and Confetti - I am so sorry for the deferrals, but, as a parent of ‘the deferred’ (lol) keep hope alive. I keep hearing stories of deferrals that DO get in.

Wahoo - I am in agreement with everyone else. This is the last week of school up here, so if you don’t hear back by Wednesday at Noon, CALL the school and make your voice heard. You don’t want this lingering over the break…

So…DH and I were out to dinner tonight (celebrating 8 Happy Years of Marriage!!,) and we get an unexpected text from Step-D! She’s been accepted to San Diego State U!! Hooray!!!

What’s funny about this particular piece of good news is that she called their office when she applied and they told her she likely wouldn’t hear anything until March! NICE SURPRISE!! Go Aztecs! :)

Congrats to stepD laurendog!!!

Thanks so much Kelijake! And, tell your S he is AWESOME. What a year he is going to have next year! :)
