Vandygrad: S2 loved dying on stage when he was Gavroche. He was quite cute and milked his big scene for everything it was worth. It was a touring show and he loved the experience - especially signing autographs. He insisted on learning cursive for this and to this day, his signature is the only cursive he knows.

Walker- with 99.999% certainty, you can submit the app and then get the school stuff in. The issue is the kid getting her part done on time. They don’t blame the kid if the school’s bit is late.
I need to see Les Miz.
And Vandy, with that story, I am going to strive to avoid taking D back to J M U. I love the school, and I will be delighted if she gets in.
After the Redskins game last night I was so wired that I was trying to find something else to think about… turned to apps and decision dates. Tried to decide when I should start feeling the panic… D clearly does not feel any anxiety- or not much, anyway. Yet.

I hate Land Grant Unis. I had S go through some potential majors and find some unique courses that he might be interested in as a way to help him decide on a school. He only found a ‘few’ interesting majors…

Agroecology, Soil science, environmental science, Urban forestry, sustainable forestry, natural resource restoration, Anthropology, Architecture, urban planing, urban studies, landscape architecture, landscape design, geography, Economics, history, agricultural business, public service in ag, global resource systems, geology, English, MIS.

Okay … Serious panic has set in. Just went to drop fee waivers and a transcript in the mail only to find out the post office closed at NOON today!!! Agggghhhhjh!!! insert numerous explicatives here

WTG to to SteveMA’s DS on another scholarship to his #1 non-HMFR! Do the schools just keep sending new letters?? Love the love!

Haystack - my H and I went to Kansas State University, a Land Grant University. It’s important that kids go to the right school, and K-State was that for us :)

carimana - we have a post office in a local shopping mall that has extended hours, similar to the mall hours…perhaps in your city as well? Or, could you could go to a place of business and pay them the postage amount for one of their postage machine postmarks with today’s date??

I was only kidding about my hate of Land Grant schools. The depth and breadth of their majors and courses is unmatched IMHO. I think they generally offer unmatched value for many if not most students. I often wish I had attended one because the selection of majors is amazing.

Happy New Year to all! My sympathies to those whose kiddos are still working on apps. 2013 will be a BIG YEAR for all of us and I’m happy to be on the ride with y’all :)

Vandy: DD13 is finalized (ED), but has spent over twelve hours this vacation writing peer letters of recommendation for friends and is still not done with them. We have a local college that requires them. (See me knocking my head against the brick wall; she has tons of schoolwork still to do…) DS13 has two first choices, an EA (accepted) and an RD. If he gets in at both, he may have to revisit each. Loves each of them, but for different reasons.

Happy New Years Everyone!!! Resolutions?

I fail my resolutions every year - usually “to clear the clutter and be more organized.” I think instead I’ll resolve next year to spend more money on myself. I’m really bad at that too. Of course, that assumes we’ll have any money left after the emergency request texts from campus. Does anyone know how much $ kids need other than tuition/ housing/ food/ books/ fees/ insurance?

Happy New Year to All! I have enjoyed our journey together! Wishing a happy and healthy 2013 for all in our awesome Lucky 13’er group!

Walker - I concur with everyone else. As long as the KID part is done, most schools grant some grace on the parts that the kid cannot control.

Congrats to all whom received more scholarship money! That is amazing and really speaks to the great kids we have in this thread!

Step-D ~will~ be done if a certain Midwestern U comes through for her. I think you all know she has one deferral so we are hoping that becomes a Yes! IF, and i don’t even like typing this, IF this does not work out in her favor, I really have no idea where she’ll end up. She’s got 7 amazing choices and each one has some MAJOR Pluses and some minor cons. Kind of a great problem to have - right? I am very proud of her. :)
