wahoo, since you mentioned the schools your D applied to I don’t think I am giving away information I am not supposed to. So UVA and W&M both require the CSS profile.:)

dadotwoboys - thanks for the reminder that it won’t always be this bad!

SteveMA - hope everything went well today with your DD.

carimama - that’s so awesome - what a feel-good story!

momofzag - wow, you really put things into perspective. And I feel exactly the same way… weren’t we going to change the world by now? Wasn’t that us? I was also going to write a book (well, of course it would have been a best seller so MANY books) by now .

ahsmuoh - oh my on Facebook! I don’t want to see that…

We’ve had less mail, although not stopped, but the emails have slowed much more. Except that S13 made a new account at a new site in order to apply for a scholarship (like Fastweb, but I don’t remember which one) and WOW the flood of emails. I was stunned that they would target him now, when app season is almost over. Then realized that IRL it’s not nearly as “done.”

STEMFamily - sorry to hear about your Mom.

reeinaz - happy B-Day to your S!

pkdof13 - kudos to your DS. I know it’s not the focus of this thread, but you give me hope for my 2E D15. And S13 did find some schools that I think she would like better, so there is that.

89wahoo - check if your schools require the CSS. If the link I’m about to post doesn’t work, google “css profile required colleges 2013” and it’s the first result. <a href=“CSS Profile – CSS Profile | College Board”>CSS Profile – CSS Profile | College Board;

ree - isn’t it funny what we find important? Of course, cakes are important, but I’m just fine with store-bought frosting…

mommaof5 - way to go! And congrats!

lol megpmom - isn’t that just the way it goes?

oohh, cari, what’s the new spreadsheet about? I need one too. I’ve started lurking on some of the other threads here at CC, which can be very scary!

Ree-I use my food processor to make frosting. Never buy store bought cake or frosting!

Steve - hope the surgery went well. Glad they were able to go ahead.

Cari- thank goodness for the postman with a heart. And congrats on apps being all done --my D dropped an essay-heavy app as well. But fifteen apps? Insane!

ree - sounds like you’re a good present-giver. And how can you go wrong with a strawberry cake in January?

pkd – is your D a little ticked that S is racking up the acceptances?

ugadog – welcome back! Glad you got to clear your head for a while. I’ll bet anything it works out for your D, and if for some reason she ended up with a gap year, she could probably rack up a ton of experience in her chosen field that would stand her in good stead when she reapplied. But mostly I think it’s about cleansing breaths and remembering to hydrate between now & April – for you and me both.

mommaof5-- wow! Big alteration in the scholarship picture from one phone call. Score one for the helicopter pilot.

luke - thanks for the props. My older daughter is here on vaca laughing at me and telling me to get a life.

megpmom - thank you for the info about the Methodist student loans. I am definitely going to take a look at those. I’m surprised I didn’t know about them & we certainly might use them. (and lol about that instant communication by email)

wahoo – if you find an extra life, would you toss it my way? I keep trying to remember when D1s early-writes started to come in, which is the worst possible thing to think about. Cause in D1s case I didn’t know there was such a thing and they came as a very delightful surprise. This time around if I’m waiting for them and they don’t come … argh.

Momofzag and confetti – agreed! Where are the staggering “25 years out” accomplishments?

ConfusedMominMA - I never would have guessed how easy the home made stuff is to make.

Confetti - prior to this summer every cake I’ve served has been store bought…and I mean supermarket cake. So, yeah, I’m still giggling at the “horror” of store bought frosting. I texted my son to buy some on his way home. He picked lemon.

FAFSA has been processed!!

Sorry about the lack up updates, the internet at the hospital wasn’t working (the guest one). We are home, everything went well. DD is resting watching Willy Wonka right now. She seems to be bouncing back from this one faster than her last one so that is good.

Yeah! I’m glad her surgery went well and she is recuperating. My post surgery movie of choice back in the day was Milo and Otis LOL.

Awesome, job, Mommaof5! Good for you!

Reeinaz: I just got an email from FAFSA saying it’s processed too. But…I go to the FAFSA site and it’s down :(

Steve, I’m glad that everything went well and she’s recuperating! Which Willie Wonka, Gene Wilder or Johnny Depp?

Gene Wilder–it’s on ABC Family right now :D.

We got the emails that the kids’ FAFSA were processed too. Didn’t check the site though.

So glad everything went smoothly today!!!

SteveMA…great news! Glad it’s Gene Wilder, not Johnny Depp. I like him and all, but feel he really bonked on his version of Willy Wonka!

D1 is still here, and for the first time ever, I think I’m ready for her to go back to school! Of course, she’s close, so I can see her whenever I want, but her nocturnal college hours are getting to me! They were making a cake at 11:00 last night, and the kitchen is right under our bedroom (home made frosting is tasty, but sounds like gravel being processed when using a metal bowl and mixer)

D2 and D3 go back to school tomorrow…yes! (there is a D3… I am hoping to see many of you on the parents of 2017 thread!)

Truly on the downhill side of my sweet girl’s senior year. Every year my girls pick out an ornament for the tree. when they leave, they will take them with them to start their own trees. my own mom did that for me, and I love taking the ornaments out each year and remembering who I was and what I was like at the time. this year D2 couldn’t find one she liked, but then we went to the Vanderbilt book store to look for a sweatshirt after Christmas. she found a beautiful, simple gold ball with the some of the buildings on it and The insignia of the school. I cried a few minutes ago when I packed it away.

Checking in to see how SteveMA’s DD is doing!
I’m glad that she’s home and resting. And I’m glad it’s the Gene Wilder version - MUCH better IMHO, and definitely better for recuperating. :)

Mommaof5, congratulations! I’m assuming that it’s the NMSF scholarship at the school where both our kids were accepted. PM if you want additional info about the school - it’s one I’m very familiar with. :)

We’re home - back from a visit to the doctor - lots of news vans outside, if that gives you a clue as to where… looks like DD is going to need surgery. It’s nothing huge, and we can plan it around her schedule… She’ll be out of school for several weeks though, and out of sports for several months, so we need to figure out when to do it.

Ree, sorry about the mixer - I hope the cake turned out great. I had no idea that so many teen guys are into MLP - who knew? WTG for being on top of the trend!

ree- Yeah, homemade frosting is ssssoooo easy. To frost a 9x13" cake or 2 layer cake I just put about 4 cups of 10x sugar, 6 tblsp of softened butter, a tsp of vanilla and 3/4 cup cocoa powder (for chocolate frosting -and is there really any other kind!?) in the food processor with the plastic paddle and mix. then with the processor running, I slowly pour milk through the tube till the frosting is the right consistency. Voila!! (Just leave out the cocoa pwdr for vanilla frosting.) Cream cheese frosting is easy too: 8 oz bar of softened cream cheese, butter, vanilla and 10x sugar and mix together in the food processor!

terinzak -I also just got an email from FAFSA saying that it was processed. Should I be going on the FAFSA site to check on something? I didn’t.

SteveMA - glad all went well today.

I miss the old store frosted cakes that has the crisco frosting or whatever it was. Everyone has butter cream, which is ok, but if I’m buying a store bought cake, I want that “crappy” frosting, not the “good” stuff :D.

Confusedmominma–I have no idea if we need to check fafsa…Just thought I would to see if it said anything different.

Ree, strawberry with lemon - that sounds really good! When we visited Rhodes we went to this great cupcake bakery and one of the specialties (that everyone but us was ordering) was strawberry cupcakes with lemon frosting. I’ve been wanting them ever since!

anniezz - good luck with the surgery and everything it involves for your DD’s schedule.

I had a lemon something with strawberries at the hospital cafeteria today. It was actually really good.
