Sorry for all the drama with drama!!! There to some degree with D2 as well! She opted to be the stage manager for the musical to avoid the almost certain debacle it was/is going to be!

Did a transport for one of the local animal rescue leagues today - got to snuggle some puppies and helped drive a carful of dogs to the rescue. Exhausting but so needed and rewarding in this stressful college app season!

Now off to opening game for S3’s ('15) house basketball game, hopeful this season is better than last! (0-11)!

Ds’s team lost its scrimmage, but they looked better than I thought they would as we lost lots of talented seniors last year. And the coach rostered and played about 30 kids to take a game-situation look at those on the bubble so it was pretty chaotic. We’ve won district three years straight so lots of pressure to keep it up.

Ds has three bffs who live close enough to us, and I’ve been thinking about approaching the moms and seeing about doing a group thing. For ds1, we took family out to eat after the ceremony, but I’m guessing that ds2 would want something bigger and with friends.

Oh how horrible, crittermom! Now I’m counting my blessings - thanks for that :).

Sorry I’m so OCD about posting but I hate to miss anyone!

LOL on the class. When I told DH I was going to senior financial aid night (which I’ve attended since S13 was a sophomore) he said “oh, are you speaking?” He wasn’t quite serious.

Yep, I’m definititely a mom :D.

Re: Grad parties - around here the kids all go party hopping all the time except when they have to stay at their own party (and BF/GF may stay with them). But there are grad parties every weekend day all summer through the second week of August. Relatively few people actually have the party on graduation weekend (graduation is on Sunday).

crittermom - my S13 already told me he doesn’t want to spend money on a party. But I have a feeling he’ll be glad to have something - and I think I would too - so we will probably just do lots of soda and chips and cookies in the backyard. Maybe I’ll get a high school T-shirt for everyone to sign for him. The scrapbook sounds fantastic, but I’m not that good a mom, so I won’t even pretend it’s gonna happen . I have no excitement about planning the party.

Congrats terinzak!!

shillyshally - wow, good for you!

Thanks for the well-wishes. I know we’ll be fine whatever happens - moving never killed anyone. It’s just bad timing for the “over-the-shoulder-lurking” kind of stress, you know? Good thing I have no New Year’s resolutions to screw up!

Wow! go away for a few hours and come back to 4-5 pages to catch up on!

Terinzaki - Congratulations!!

No news here again today :(

Teen driving: makes me nervous. My brother was killed in a car accident when I was 15 (he was 18). I think that contributed to me not getting my license till I was 20. My DS is an all right driver, i guess, but he is a little unsure of himself. I don’t think he’d want to do a long road trip. I got him a Garmin for Xmas so hopefully that will make him feel better when he does have to go a long distance.

Hate having to call the phone co or the cable company or any of those types of calls. you always know it is going to be a hassle!

my3girls - that was me on the FAFSA - 4000 vs. 1650. I didn’t go back in and check my numbers yet (it takes 3 days to process?) but I am planning to try and wait until the “real” tax numbers are in before I ask for help. If customer support is stressful I only want to do it once. Now, if we can’t get filed right away in February, I’ll re-think that.

Regarding teen driving I definitely think it depends on the driver. S13 was born to drive. His DMV tester even told him he’s one of the most comfortable, confident drivers she’s ever seen. I think he does a little too much acceleration/braking… but I think DH does too! :D

I am getting so confused by the CSS Profile. I am just not good at understanding the “meaning” behind all the numbers. the kids “assets” versus the Parent’s assessts, versus “parent’s assessts that are in kids names???”" I am just not getting it!

Walker, can I come over and stay a few days? My brain is numb.

drmom123–have you done the FAFSA yet? It would help to do that first. If you have go back through your information and look at the help sections for similar questions–have 2 tabs open. For parent’s assets in a child’s name–people use to put their large savings into a younger sibling’s name to hide the money for financial aid purposes. Now you can’t do that. Say you have 2 kids, Johnny and Suzi. Johnny is going off to college so you put all of your savings and extra cash into Suzi’s account so it looks like you don’t have any savings. Since Suzi’s info doesn’t show up on the FAFSA or CSS, people would try to hide those funds. That is what that question is asking.

Congratulations, Terinzak family! Crossing my fingers that the aid works out.

Does anyone else have a daughter waiting to hear from Scripps? Last year they notified scholarship semi-finalists on Jan 4 but no news here yet. :(

D13’ is hearing back from her reach schools to set up interviews with local alumni. Among several things, they ask for test scores. D13’ was wondering if they want some type of official report, or self report. What did your kids do?

DS is still on cloud nine…cloud 10 now that someone from his school has also been accepted there. I was hoping that the school would send some kind of gift…guess I’m going to go and buy him a tshirt (can we say the school yet?)

Yay, terinzak…at long last! Hoping they send lots-o-money his way!

I wish grad party weren’t popular around here…S went to 25 last year in a span of three weekends (7 in one day.) His favorite was the kid who had a chipolte style burrito bar. One had international cuisine, but most had the typical BBQ stuff…we will be ordinary for sure.

My nephew combined his party with his best bud…the parents are also friends…but it was awkward for a lot of people that didn’t know the kid and waking in his house, etc.

Congrats, terinzak! We also had drama drama this year. Seniors are supposed to get lead roles in the spring musical. There are only 4 seniors. The musical that was chosen has a soprano lead role and my D the only soprano, has had solos in choir performances and semi-solos in prior musicals. But the fix was in. Lead role went to an alto and D got smaller role (for an alto), music rearranged. D heartbroken but determined to know lead’s role perfectly as an understudy.

Congrats on the hoped-for acceptance, sorry for the drama drama (although y’all have made me delighted that none of my kids have any talents in that direction), brazenly requesting more puff love, and wanted to add my $0.02 re: graduation parties. It is very regional and very individual by kid. I loved DS#1’s–big group party with 10-15 families participating. Lovely and not at my house. All I had to do was write a check. DS#2 is a quieter kid so we did a family dinner out–loved that too. DS#3–no idea what he wants, but will likely not do much as I think he’ll be invited to lots of other kids’ parties.

We had an impromptu family meal tonight and the kids just got back from running out for milk shake fixin’s and are roasting marshmallows over the fire in the kitchen. Life is good.
