I have a really stupid question. For the UC applications, how does the student verify that all information has been received? He got emails from each school saying “We have received your application.” The emails do not say if SAT score reports and transcripts have been received.

Only one school (so far) has invited him to set up a portal. But there is no green check mark or anything signifying that his application is complete.

So… is there a way to verify that transcripts and test scores have been received?

Thanks!

P.S. @Lab317, how did your daughter react? I’m getting vicarious enjoyment from hearing the experiences of others!

I’ve been out of town and was several pages behind. Congrats on all the early acceptances. S14 has 8 of 9 apps complete. Last one is non-common app. All his apps required supplements and in some cases artistic supplements as well. First decisions in the next 10 days. Eeek! He also applied to USC, School of Cinematic Arts - Film Production, that’s the big reach on our list, but hey, you can’t get in if you don’t apply, right? High hopes for everyone!

I started this post yesterday and then lost it and didn’t have time or energy to repost so hopefully this will go thru without disappearing this time!

Congrats to all those getting acceptances and scholarships! And I’m so sorry for those not getting the news they want. It’s such a hard time of year for sad news.

DD received notification in the mail today that she received the Presidential Scholarship from UVM! It’s the highest they give to out of state students and does make a nice dent in the total cost. But no news on Honors College. I was hoping but her test scores are not that high and I think that matters more than her #1 rank and 4.0 GPA. Ugh! Probably going to be the same thing for our state flagship.

DD had an early release day yesterday due to the snow. No applications done though! But she did get a scholarship app done and submitted on Friday. Three more apps to go all to ivys. One is getting there and she has more of a chance to it. The other two, if she decides not to apply, that’s fine with me. We’ll save money on fees. But they are ones she really liked so it’s up to her. But given her scores, they are shoot the moon long shots! So as long as she get the one other app in, I’m fine with whatever else she decides!

Calla1, I just asked my daughter and she did not say anything about getting confirming emails and only one has asked her to set up a portal so far.

Some of the Ivies are announcing tomorrow at 5 pm. In my experience, CC crashes (as do the Ivy websites!) on announcement days like that. So if you can’t get on here between 5 & 6 pm tomorrow, don’t be surprised!

Calla1, Log in to the UC application and click on “Update ACT & SAT tests” to confirm that they received the scores. They should all be listed at the bottom.

DS2 is waiting on his Claremont ED1 app. Supposedly they will email on Friday, since the 15th falls on a Sunday this year. Pins and needles! He found out today he did not get all district football honors like he did last year, probably because most of the coaches left last year and our team was much weaker as a whole. He played much better this year, so it is puzzling. I know he was very disappointed, since he has played so hard his entire hs career, as well as keeping up his academics. Hoping he gets good news Friday. Fingers crossed and I think I’ll pick up a St. Jude candle tomorrow, just for some extra help!

calla1, my D has been a little cautious it reacting to other acceptances but this one got big smiles and a little happy dance. Then she realized she needed a scholarship to attend and her face fell. I told her to finish reading her letter. And there was a nice juicy merit scholarship…she beamed! Insisted on salmon with sugar cookies for desert to celebrate.

We’re waiting on 2 or 3 announcements this weekend.

The one school has sent an e-mail telling him to watch for an envelope from admissions that will include scholarship $$. We received an envelope about a week later and it was a thin envelope … that announced they had all the paperwork to begin reviewing his file! Another case of left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing! haha! He shouldn’t have a problem getting into that school since he is way above the 25-75%.

His 18th birthday was this past weekend. His birthday present finally arrived today (thanks to mother nature and UPS being overwhelmed with packages!). So tonight, he is sleeping in a tent in our living room! haha I think he likes his new tent! (I did say 18 and not 8, right???) ;)

Luckily our school only missed two days for weather this past week. The school districts just to the north of us have missed 5 so far and some of the more rural schools will still be out tomorrow. Usually when we have snow in Arkansas, it is 50 degrees the next day and it melts immediately. This time, it hasn’t gotten out of the 30’s and it just isn’t going away. We don’t have the plows and equipment to clear the roads like the areas that get snow all the time. I feel for those kids that will be making school up on Saturdays or summer break.

My D got a phone call last night around 6:30 from a woman at her EA school. My husband answered, and couldn’t get her to tell him anything…She said for my D to call back today between 8:30-4;30. When I asked my D if she was going to call at 8:30, she said, no, I’ll call after school…too mellow!!!

I am trying to remember if my S got any phone calls before admissions letter came. I don’t think they would call with a decline? This is the D3 school she will be playing soccer for…exciting times…

@ELKyes - your daughter is way too mellow for me. I think as parents, knowing how high the stakes are for everything, we need to know asap! Ahh, youth and blissful ignorance, it’s great she is not stressed. @beadymom - I teach in a HS as well as having a near 18 year old at home - 18 year old boys are definitely 8 year olds in large bodies, lol. My son and his friends still love to camp and fish. The weekend after they lost in the football playoffs, meaning they’d never play again, they all went on a freezing camping/fishing trip together.

congrats, akmom! i think a maple syrup mojito is in order!

My best friend’s son is waiting on ED results from Hamilton (released tomorrow at 5). Praying for her to be one and done. We both suffered the wait list blues with our daughters 3 years ago.

I found out that one of S’s schools announces at 5:00 on his birthday! Could be a great present or a big disappointment. He doesn’t know this (he thinks they just notify by mail) so I might sneak onto the portal and find out first. Or maybe not.

I’m getting irritated with people on the University of Michigan EA thread so I’m stepping away. Getting emotional over a message board is nuts. Maybe I’m more stressed than I thought.

Big congrats to akmom, lab317, and ELKyes! So nice to hear positive stories, keep 'em coming!

No news in our house…UMiami says they can’t find the transcript that was sent back in early October, MiamiU says the file is “ready to review”…and not a peep from UDel or UMD, but none expected for another month+. We’ve also given up on surprise merit letters from Penn State and UWisconsin… But, still feeling very positive and grateful about having options and also feeling certain that Cheergirl will end up where she’s “supposed to be.” At peace…

Happy to report we are done. Deposit sent to son 1’s ED #1 choice. Proud to see that he got accepted to 2 other, arguably higher reach schools with comparable or more merit but that he was comfortable in his own skin and and is going where he felt he would be happiest.

Also happy that ED school came through with great merit award despite ED status. Now son can focus on maintaining grades - especially in AP and Dual Enrollment courses he might want college credit for.

Now our attention turns to Extra Long twin sheets, dorm fridges, roommate selection, and mom and girlfriend crying it out…not to mention our other two that will be going away to college in the next 3 years!

beadymom - your post brings back so many memories of DS11! He was just like that with new presents! I have a wonderful picture of him sleeping in his crib curled up with a plastic school bus - couldn’t have been comfortable! And the new bike we had to haul up the stairs once so it could be in his room. Last year (at age 20) it was the new golf clubs that spent the night in his room :)

DD had a great experience this weekend that really brought home the whole admissions process. She is directing a play of elementary school kids and we had auditions this weekend. I think it was much harder for her being in the position of making the casting decisions than auditioning herself for any show ever has been! And she knew going in she was going to have to cut half of the kids because twice as many as we could take had signed up for auditions - 50% acceptance rate!

By Sunday night the cast had been set and she finally relaxed a bit. And then she said, You know, this is kind of like college admissions. Youre being evaluated against yourself and then they see if they have a place for you. I had never thought of it that way but it really hit home for you. She, along with the music director and choreographer, watched the auditions and figured out which kids had the ability to be in the show (i.e. how did they do singing). Then they figured out roles they needed people to fill. So they really werent being evaluated against each other, just themselves. And then whether they fit the roles she needed to fill. Some who were perfectly find didnt make it into the show because there were so many others like them (3rd or 4th grade), but others were pulled in because she really needed a few little kids (1st grade) to fill specific roles. And when she hit the total number she wanted to have in the show, the remainder were not going to be cast because there wasnt any more room. Its not necessarily that some were so much better than others, but more that she was building a cast in the same way colleges talk about building a class. And there just isnt enough room for everyone to get in.

I think it made her feel a bit better about the whole admissions process. If a school doesnt accept her, it may not be because shes not good enough, but because they already have other accepted students that could fill the same spot. The most talented kids were accepted because there was enough space for them, but only some of those on the fence made it into the show. Of course, some of those who auditioned didnt make it to even being in the fence pile, but they may have been fine at another theatre company or different show, just not this one.

Just thought Id share that with you all. I was shocked when she made that comparison but it makes so much sense now I wonder why Id never thought of it before!
