YES!!! DS has 4 good acceptances so far, waiting on 3 more. I don’t have a CLUE which of the 4 current schools is the front runner (well I know which is the least favorite!). I can see him at all 3 of the schools, so he may just be waiting on final money info.

Good luck to all of us waiting on UMichigan results today!! :)

Two big envelopes came today! I am so excited for S to get home.
lab317-you are not the only one. Have you read the book about picking seven good schools to apply to? I can’t remember the title but the author promotes not having a favorite school or falling in love with one (then it is harder to break up withe favorite if it doesn’t come through) So in a way, we are probably lucky that our kids are not set on just one.
Congrats to the 2018dad family-so great that her hard work has paid off!

Let them be undecided for a little bit longer and savor this moment. It must feel great knowing that you know have the control to choose where to go, it is a good stress, even If they get “annoying”.

Miracle of miracles - S2 got a 91 on his Calculus midterm exam! It is the only course he really struggles with, and he has worked it hard of late. I gave him a tank of gas as a reward. ;-D

My DS’14 has a favorite, but my DS’11 refused to identify a front-runner until all the decisions were in, and we’d revisited everywhere that offered him enough money to make the offer viable (and one place that had not, but would have probably matched other offers if it had been his top choice). It’s actually way better if they don’t get attached early on – easy to let those rejections go without tears, and easy to let go the schools we couldn’t afford, and just concentrate on choosing among the viable options.

Thanks. She has worked hard. Yes, I recall your name from the 2011 parents thread. S was waitlisted at Vandy and ended up at Georgetown where he is thriving and happy as could be. D is applying to Vandy in the RD round so we won’t hear anything until the end of March . I remember the wait three years ago - it sucked!!

2018 - congtrats to your D for making it to valedictorian. Our S-2011 was a co-val and we think it really helped him with his admission to Georgetown. They love vals, sals and 3rds. His GU class was nearly 49% top 3 in their HS classes. A really amazing statistic.

S14 has been accepted to the University of Michigan- College of LS&A! Wow, that first acceptance is such a relief, especially to a great school like Michigan! HAIL!

Congrats on all the acceptances! They make great Christmas presents!

lab317: My son does not have a No. 1 school. He tells people that his No. 1 will be the one that offers the best financial package. He does not want to graduate with a lot of debt.

Today he got to see what a real offer looked like. He opened an envelope from one of his schools and learned he got a full tuition scholarship. There may have been a little smile, too, as he read the letter aloud. The track and field/cross country coach e-mailed him last night and offered to meet with him about his program when he visits the school in about a month.

The tuition offer sheet came a day after he got a nice merit offer from another school. No track talk yet, but he is hoping to meet that coach, too, when he visits.

Meanwhile, so glad it’s Christmas Break. We all could use some rest!

Thank you all! I feel much better. I thought her reaction was unique but there are lots of kids out there like her. I appreciate the reminder that it’s good not to have a “I’ll die if I don’t go there school”. I’m just impatient (wanna get the sweatshirt
She’s a thoughtful kid and nervous but excited about leaving home. Maybe even a little terrified.

My D also doesn’t seem to have a front runner. She’s been very lucky and has been accepted to 5 schools so far, all with scholarship awards save one that doesn’t notify of merit for another month. At one point, she actually said, “I almost wish I’d been rejected somewhere to make my decision easier!” We won’t hear from her two reach schools until April 1st but those may not necessarily be the best fit for her. So worried that the period between April 1st and May 1st is going to be horrendous, she is so indecisive about this.

Hello, All! I dont post much but I read every day. All of your kids are so accomplished! Congratulations on all the acceptances and full tuition and scholarships! My D received two acceptances today unexpectedly…thought they would come later if accepted. So excited! Still waiting on her favorite colleges. The acceptances were a blessing though because she was deferred at Northeastern and Villanova :(. Has the stats (I think) to get in but applying to nursing which is so tough!!! So she’ll prob get rejected in the end from those two schools. Her stats/ECs are pretty good and well rounded, but not like the folks on CC getting accepted to these schools!

@NYMom3Kids…I saw on the acceptances thread that your D was accepted to one of the schools my D applied. Glad to see they are starting to come out!

cakeisgreat, congrats on the unexpected acceptances! I heard Northeastern had a record number of EA applications this year. Hope she hears better news from them and other schools soon. Are you referring to Delaware? My D heard someone had found out so she had me check online. Was so surprised to find out as there hasn’t been any chatter about it on CC and we thought it would be a few more weeks. She applied super early though so maybe she was at the top of the pile. Thanks for touching base! :)

Good news in our house tonight, too, as S was accepted into Michigan’s College of Engineering. He’s 5 for 5 now with 3 reaches to come in April. The first four were matches or safeties so tonight’s acceptance was a bit more celebratory for him. Nice to hear of everyone else’s acceptances and great merit offers. We have no merit at this point. Kinda wish he would have applied to a school or two that gives the merit with acceptance. The wait is torture!

My advice to my kids when they are indecisive about something is to have them put all the options on slips of paper and put them in a “hat”. Pull one out, and before they open it, I ask “Which one did you just hope it was?” I think, deep down, they always hope it is one, they just don’t realize it consciously.

Congrats to all with great acceptances!! S14 got into UMich too, but will be turning it down since he already got his first choice ED. Still the kids feel good knowing their hard work paid off. Now we have to withdraw the other apps, and open up those spots.

@Barnardmom thats a great trick, I’ll be using it in the future to make some of my decisions I think Thanks!

Another indecisive one here as well. She hasn’t seen all the schools where we applied - once we knew what she liked we added some that were similar. Wouldn’t you know those are the ones she’s getting in first?

We have to decide when it makes sense to go see a few of them, the longer we wait the longer this indecision drags on. However, do we really want to see schools in the way northeast in Jan/Feb?

@NYMom3Kids–yes, I was referring to Delaware…hoping D gets in! She applied nursing…so tough. But we just changed her 2nd alternate to elementary teaching because (to add to the stress), she is wavering a bit. All her life she wanted to be a nurse practitioner (or PA), but just last few months, she is wondering if she should be a teacher. The base for her for nursing is her absolute love for kids and science. But every time she does anything related to K-3rd graders…sing for the elementary school, watch a Christmas program…she literally sparkles and lights up with excitement! And she is a kid at heart…still trick or treating at age almost 18!! Disney princess all the way. So…after all apps are in…she is wondering. I wish she would have wondered BEFORE she applied to a ridiculously hard major to get into! She definitely has the stats for every school applied to, but add nursing into the mix…yikes.

Oh well…I’m babbling. SO glad you guys got into UD! Nothing on our portal, and we applied super early but I’m sure we will hear soon. I better start lurking on the UD area on CC.
