Parents of the HS Class of 2014

Click on the globe icon (at the bottom of my smartphone screen), the click on notification setting…i was also annoyed by the emails…i still haven’t figured out how to load in an Avatar…

Click on wheel at top right, then Preferences to stop notification e-mails.

Anyone know how to get back to the list of threads I’ve posted on?

@seattle_mom – when you click on your own user name in the upper right, you will then go to a page that has links running down the left. One will appear as ‘Replies’. Those are your own replies to others’ threads. You can then go to a thread and click on the star so that you will be able to find it. I think that will also bookmark it which will result in you receiving notifications when someone posts in one of your bookmarked threads.

Very Facebook-like.

They don’t have a setting that is equivalent to what I was used to (one notification per thread, and you wouldn’t get a new one if more people posted before you’d visited, unless you were away from the thread for some time).

@mathmomvt–I never knew there was a notification feature on CC so I am pleased by what I consider a new feature. I had seen people discussing it but never bothered to figure out how it worked. I have CC linked to an email account that I do not use regularly so I haven’t even looked today to see what notifications have arrived. I could see how this notification feature could quickly become like FB where you hesitate to post a comment knowing you will receive a dozen notifications.

I thought I turned off email notifications for most things, but I am still getting them. Definitely will take some getting used to ;-)

Another snow storm here today with a bit more expected over the next few days. Couldn’t access CC on my phone which is my main point of interaction with the Board, and discovered the new format when my email notifications began to blow up and I was forced to use my laptop to investigate. I like the new look; it’s less clunky. Wondering why they added a Facebook login, if this is supposed to be an anonymous Board… [-X

I just turned off my e-mail notification. You go to the “account option” on the top of the page by your username.
Then you can de-select the e-mail notification.

I so dislike the board changes.

Waaaay too much white space … more scrolling, everything’s spread out & harder to read.
The list of threads use a light blue font that has less contrast with the white background –
much harder to read.
And where I once had single email with synopses of the day’s thread responses, there’s now a single email message for each post, with no information about it.

And the control panel & thread tools are hidden.

Oh, and the Contact link at the bottom of the page – doesn’t work.

Worst makeover I’ve seen since Weather Underground’s last change
(except at least they have a Classic view).

Feh.
[/rant, turning off notifications … ]

I’m glad the issues I’m having with the new board are those others are having. Otherwise, I was beginning to wonder about myself…

Harder to read. Harder to find threads I’ve been interested in. Harder to see who posted. I never had notifications turned on, so I guess I’m ok with that one.

It’s my youngest who’s in the 2014 class fortunately.

I’ve used CTRL + to make the font appear bigger and it gets rid of a lot of white space to the right also, which is nice. I’m getting used to it. It is better the second time you log on because it does show which threads have New posts and how many. I’m manually bookmarking the threads I used to look for with the red stars. Like for this forum, I just do this thread and the 2012 thread.

I don’t like that anybody can post our posts to Facebook and it looks like it would post your avatar also so think about that when you select an avatar. I’m not a huge fan of Avatars in general. I find them kind of distracting.

So S had two interviews this weekend and he thinks they both went well. I got my last W-2 yesterday so I’m ready to finish up the FAFSA and CSS Profile. I’m waiting a little bit to actually file my taxes to make sure there are no 1098s that I forgot about yet that haven’t come yet, but I think I have everything now. I have more of a refund coming than I expected, which is nice too. All those medical expenses this year helped in the end I guess. As did paying for Barnardgirl’s health insurance premiums for her school insurance plan. I’m so used to premiums come out of the paycheck before taxes that I almost forgot to include these.

Not sure how I should feel about the new format. Lots of white space. Maybe I’m just used to the old stuff, which was very user friendly. Anyway, reminded my husband this morning that we needed to finish up FAFSA and file it. Son ‘14 nearly had a large meltdown last night when it started to snow — again. He’ had nearly two weeks off since his last school day. He WANTS school! Come to think of it, I want to return to work. Next project is to get Son '14 looking for more scholarships so he can offset some of the other college-related expenses like fees.

Momreads, good luck to your S on the money hunt. Our S1 chased scholarships like crazy. $500 here, $500 there really starts to add up. One would be surprised by the number of small awards that are laying around. Community service organizations such as Lions, Rotary, etc. as well as Churches, Fraternal organizations, municipalities. Several years back we started a 501-c3 Education Foundation in our school district, and it has attracted numerous named scholarships that are managed by the foundation. But the surprising thing is that there are so few applicants!! Our S1 pulled down almost $12k, including one from our church that was for 4 years, and one from the state boroughs association of all places.

The absolute topper (though not a scholarship) was the $1,000 he won on a daily number sponsored by the football boosters the night before he left for college! :)) =D> They literally met him and his mom in a parking lot, handed him $1,000 cash in a brown bag and said “good luck in college, hope this helps”

@4beardolls thanks. I made the change in settings. @initiatelaunch- great story about the church booster money in a paper bag!

Does anyone know if there is a way to read past posts for a user now? I can see post counts but wasn’t able to get to them to read.

l really just want to post so I can use some of the new emoticons! :o3 :bz lol. It’s been quite a week around here - got a “no” from Juilliard based on a pre-screen video; another “no” from a scholarship org; then a somewhat lukewarm audition experience yesterday at USC. D thinks she sang fine, but they did not ask her to sight-sing (her strength) nor did they really engage her in any conversation or even seem to fully pay attention while she sang. At least it was a lovely day to spend on the USC campus.

Congrats to all who are hearing good news!

@CinMom—so I clicked the hyperlink that is your name beneath your street sign Avatar. That takes me to your page. On the left, click on Replies and you will see all of a user’s replies. Hope that helps.

GertrudeMcFuzz, thanks for sharing the updates… I know a few "NOs’ are coming our way soon.

I am having trouble navigating through the new site. The good thing is that I knew only few features of the old site other than starting a new thread or posting replies.
I can’t seems to find a tool to start a new thread. It looks like the search within a specific forum is gone too. :((

Help! I keep getting a ton of emails even though I unchecked everything in preferences. Then, I changed my email address on CC to a rarely used account and I’m still getting emails on my original email address. Any ideas on how I can stop receiving emails??? Thanks!

@momofwon, to turn off your e-mail notifications, You go to the “account option” on the top of the page by your username (it looks like a wheel.) Then you de-select the e-mail notification. It worked for me.

@ljmom, to start a new thread, You go to the orange box with “New Discussion” wording. It’s right next to the title of the thread “Parents of the HS Class of 2014”.

4bears. Thanks but I turned off all of the email notifications last night. I switched my email address on CC and I’m STILL getting emails on my orig. account. For the life of me I can’t figure how to make them stop. Thanks.
