Parents of the HS Class of 2014

Congrats Gigem86 - how nice to be getting closer to the end! And snowme - why an invitation to Oslo for a school in England?

I finally feel like I’m getting closer to being done with some of what I had to do! Submitted the CSS yesterday and got all the financial records copied and prepared to send to IDOC which I did today! So happy all of that is done. Now I just have to keep checking FAFSA to see when I can transfer the data or whatever you do (haven’t done it this way before). Taxes were filed on Tuesday so hopefully sometime next week I can finalize FAFSA for DD. We’ll see DS’11 in a couple of weeks and I’ll have him sign his tax forms and then those can get filed and later his FAFSA can get updated and then I’ll be done with the financial aid stuff! At least I hope I will!!

I’ve been searching for scholarships that DD is qualified for and have found a number so hopefully she can get those done - maybe even during February vacation? She’s completed 3 so far and received one in November and got notification she moved on to the state level of the Elks one this week. That was a surprise as she hadn’t received notice she’d moved from local lodge to district level but it’s nice to know she’s progressed. I don’t know if she doesn’t move on from the State level if she gets a scholarship at the local or district level though.

For those of you wondering about Credit Union scholarships, I’ve been googling the names of local credit unions with the word scholarship and have found a few that way. Some you need to be a member to qualify but some you do not. I’ve also looked at other high school’s websites to see what scholarship opportunities and applications they have listed. While her school does a good job with their list, because we live in a different town, there are some that are available to her that are not listed. It’s worth a try! Now to just get her to find the time to complete them!

We are so over the moon in our house, my s got into Vandy ED2, with a great fin aid package! He just ordered his sweatshirt and tee!

Glad to read so much good news since I last checked in. Congratulations to everyone with new acceptances and scholarship advancement!

Gigem that is great that your D loved Clemson. My S attended Clemson and was very happy with his choice.

lindz126, congratulations to your son!!!

Congratulations to every one with acceptances and scholarships.

DS just received in the mail the acceptance letter from U of Miami (FL) with a Presidential Scholarship.

Congrats to DS of 4beardolls! The U!

Congratulations @4breadolls!!

Congrats to todays great acceptance and scholarship announcements!

Lots of incredible news coming in! Congratulations to all!

Congratulations Lindz126! Great school, made all the more wonderful with great financial aid pkg.

Congratulations, 4beardolls - what wonderful news!

Having my Morning Joe …waiting for my hubby to join me in Providence this weekend. It is nice not to be traveling this weekend and look forward to having one residence once S graduates and goes off to college.

I am really enjoying reading all the acceptances - I was especially touched by Ncdad’s S acceptance - what a great turn of events for him. I had followed along as you shared your S story last year and used the experience as a teaching moment for my S. I wish you and your family all the best.

Congratulations everyone! Look forward to hearing about more acceptances…6 more weeks…

I leave for one day and so much news! I was the one who predicted the love of Clemson! Congrats on the Vandy admit!

We spent yesterday flying to Boston, taking the train up to UNH - business tour, lunch, general tour. It was about 20 degrees and about a foot of snow. The new business building is beautiful and seems like a great department.

At the airport d and I finally talked through everything, and she has made her decision! She will be attending Auburn University! She still has to hear from Clemson and USC so I was going to have her wait until those decisions came out, but she said she didn’t want to feel like it was sour grapes because if she got into all three she still chooses Auburn. She’s definitely excited and relieved to have made the decision. I think it is a great one for her!

So thrilled to hear about the acceptances and scholarships! What awesome news!

Glad that there is no indoor track meet this weekend. Son '14 admitted on the way home yesterday that he still has not fully recovered from the flu. No fever, just a hacking cough. He is also pretty tired. So the weekend is needed for recovery and rest. Has three tests the first two days of the week, so he’ll be studying. Also needs to finish an essay or two for scholarships. Most are from the local or regional level. I keep finding things for him to apply to, and he’s okay about it. He would love to get enough additional monies to offset his books and fees for the first year or two.

Congrats on all the acceptance and scholarship news! go2girl flies to Vandy next weeked for her big interview and campus visit. Fingers crossed. She got her itinerary yesterday and it sounds like they have a great visit planned. I just saw on the Vandy blog the admitted students stats. Seriously, an acceptance is pretty miraculous!
 Percent of students in major leadership positions: 100% (Wow!)
 Middle 50% CR SAT: 690-770
 Middle 50% M SAT: 710-790
 Middle 50% ACT: 32-34
 Percent of students in the top ten percent of their graduating class: 95.48%**
 Early Decision Admit Rate: 23.01%

Good Morning- it is a windy, rainy morning here in Northern California… finally!
These days, my life is about waiting, waiting, waiting…where will S14 get accepted? what scholarships will he be awarded? will he finish Top Ten? will S11 get the RA position? where will he be located for summer internship? what kind of Financial Aide package will they each get? So many unknowns and all out of MY control, yet they preoccupy my thinking.

It is very exciting to hear all the great news from others and it reminds me that all of my questions will be answered in just a few more weeks… April 1st is double circled in red. :))

So exciting to hear all of the acceptances and decisions. Congrats to everyone whose child knows where they’ll land next fall! Go2mom, do you get to come along on the Vandy trip? Sounds like fun! Fingers crossed she gets the big scholarship!
Spygirl received her first acceptance yesterday to her in-state choice. Not her top pick, but it’s an acceptance. She won’t hear until the end of March for the honors college.

Agent99, no she’ll be on her own. Ironically I’ll be in Nashville for a Bachelorette party in May so I’ll make a side trip to the campus. Congrats to Spygirl! That first acceptance is so sweet! They know they are going to college…somewhere! Minnymom, you are absolutely correct! Waiting, waiting! Waiting! Can’t tell if it’s harder on them or on us!

@minnymom - LOL sounds like your state of mind would make a great script for a soap opera. Will he?/Won’t he? We went through months of stress with S1 because he was shooting so high. As a parent, you can’t help but dwell (obsess?) on it. Have faith, they all end up in a good place, even though many mistakes will be made along the way by well meaning admissions counselors. This time around we are much more relaxed. S2 is a solid middle of the road kid and he isn’t stressing too much - just a couple of stretch schools. So far he has some very solid (for him) choices. Over the Presidents day weekend we will be visiting his current first choice, and I suspect we will buy the T-shirt.

@agentninetynine - getting one on the board is a great feeling, isn’t it? Kudos to Spygirl, the first of many, no doubt. =D>
