@Quagmiro – I know it’s frustrating but it’s so much better he discovered this now, rather than next September. We’ll make room for you on the USS Indecision.

@2016 BarnardMom – Hang in there. I know it’s tough but a few more weeks and you’re done. How great is that?

@Vandyeyes – Wow! What a great package and delivered by one of those cute UPS drivers
Is Vandy the only school that uses UPS?

@Eyemamom - Impressed that DD already has her prom dress. Shopping for Spygirl is weeks away as she is too busy with the spring musical to shop.

@agentninetynine - prom is in early April this year, we aren’t exactly the early birds. Last March when I called a bridal/prom shop for a late May prom the woman said - you can come, but you’re really late, there is barely any inventory left. Apparently girls start shopping for prom dresses in september! Who does that?

Say what? Prom dress shopping in September? Isn’t that a bit early? I blame it on the success of those reality shows like “Say yes to the dress.” Spygirl and I have watched a few episodes and I just don’t understand why these women make such a production out of gown shopping.

Hope there hasn’t been a run on prom dresses here because DD has practice or a performance every day for the next three weeks.

S14 just texted me that he got a voicemail message from a professor at his top choice, reach school asking to call back for a phone interview about his application. I’m freaking out! He’s probably fine.

What do they ask about on a phone interview? How does he impress them over the phone?

In a nutshell … Prepare
Research the the school and the interviewer as thoroughly as possible (Facebook, college site, LinkedIn, Google). Your son should be able to specifically state why he wants to attend that school, and what about its program(s) appeal to him. It’ll help if he can (matter-of-factly, in passing) demonstrate knowledge of the interviewer’s work.

Execute
Listen to the questions. Listen to the questions. Listen to the questions.
And answer the questions asked, in as interesting, complete and self-flattering a manner as possible (without being unduly talkative, self-aggrandizing, self-congratulatory or obsequious – yeah, it’s a fine line).
Have questions ready for the interviewer.
Google: college interview prepare – lots of good material out there which can be found in a couple of hours.

Above all else, your son should be himself (something that my son taught me).

Is anyone else being logged out of CC repeatedly today? When logged out, time stamp moves forward by five hours. I assume it is some sort of system glitch, unless I am the only one experiencing this.

Hello all. Congratulations on the acceptances flowing in. We are in the group that will hear nothing for another four weeks, so are hunkering down and trying to keep the stress from getting out of control. I hope S’14 is working harder at school than he seems to be - those 3d quarter grades will probably matter. And he couldn’t get through the Presidential Scholarship application : too much writing for his current state of focus. So we’ll just have to hope that the nomination does him some good.

You are killing me with the prom dress talk. I was all about saving money, but now I may have to talk D into going to prom just so we can go dress shopping!

Hello HighHead!

@agent - ok I have to admit that while I generally HATE reality shows, I occasionally watch “yes to the dress” with D. We love to see all the dresses even though the rude friends/family members get on out nerves.

On CC and I am talking about dresses…the waiting must be getting to us.

I’m really having a hard time doing homework this week. I have to buckle down here. I can’t flunk my last class with only two and a half weeks to go. The problem with having to use a computer to do homework is that there are so many other interesting things to do on a computer. It’s like putting someone in an amusement park with a book and saying “read this book”.

D got her prom dress last Memorial Day. We were at MOA. There were a lot of great dresses on clearance. Let’s just say I spent more on the bra to go under it than I did on the dress.

Haven’t posted in a while. Trying to catch up with all the news!

S finally got his first “yes!” after lots of deferrals and a few rejections.

Filed for divorce 2 weeks ago (after many many years of being very very unhappy). I think verbal abuse is the new second hand smoke. Still a mess with soon to be ex-H.

Trying to stay healthy and positive and appreciate the wonderful things I have – 2 great kids, my health, a job. And my CC friends!

Now sharing a bathroom with S’14 (eek!). If you ever come over to visit, those wrinkle creams in there? They’re all his. He doesn’t look a day over 18.
:)

@Classof2015, I am not sure if I should say “sorry” or “congrats”. But you are right being happy with 2 great kids, health, a job, and CC friends!

@Classof2015, congratulations to your son.

I hope the technicalities of the divorce get worked out as smoothly as possible so you can get on with the next chapter of your life. I am sorry you are in that situation.

Big weekend for Son '14, as he competes in three events at the state indoor track meet. He and his buddies run the 4 by 800-meter relay tonight. They have a low seed, but Son '14 says if everyone runs his tail off, it is possible to finish in the top 6, which would give them all-state honors. As much as he wants that for himself, I think he wants it more for his buddies, who only run tonight. He has the 1000 and 1600 tomorrow. The change in meds seems to have made a big difference, and he is feeling so much better than he did a week ago. Here’s hopes for a big weekend in the track world!
