Big congratulations to @vandyeyes! That is one incredible UPS package.

Woohoo Vandyeyes!!!

Wow Vandyeyes – fantastic news! Wish the UPS man was so kind to us, lol.

We came home to a phone message from my D14’s safety school about the President’s scholarship – which she didn’t apply for (couldn’t access application without a school email address, which you get after you file your SIR – so she passed on applying). Of course, they are closed for the day, so we have to wait until tomorrow to see what the call was about. The application deadline was Feb 15th, so they must be very interested in getting her to accept admission there if they are calling her about it.

EDIT : Apparently they sent her an email about it last week, which she missed. They have extended the deadline, and they want her to apply for it (no SIR required for her to apply) --it is full tuition, $1200 per year book store credit, and laptop renewable for four years. And it’s a school that will accept her DE units, so she’s going to apply for the program

@eyemamom–I have boys so I have to take whatever prom dress stories I can find! My son escorted a friend to a winter formal last year. The girl bought her dress out of state while looking at colleges (a plane ride away). Another friend in NYC saw the photo I had posted to FB and commented b/c she had just spent the day out in NJ shopping for spring formal dresses for her D and came home with same dress that my son’s date bought 1000 miles away!

Oh the ease of outfitting a boy for the prom. Rental tux and his father’s shoes. Although after renting tux twice in four months, I was starting to think about buying one, until I realized he is still growing.

@vandyeyes–fantastic news!!! Is your older one at Tulane also or am I confusing CC parents?

@2016BarnardMom–I would guess that the winter we have all been experiencing is not helping any with your final slog through grad school. Good luck!

@Quagmiro–huge bummer, but better to learn now than after May 1st. My son emailed one school b/c the size of their program could not be easily confirmed via the website. Turns out that while it was a new and growing program, it was still much smaller than he wanted. SOOO many variables in applying to colleges.

It has clearly been an eventful day! Congrats to everyone with new acceptances!!

@vandyeyes - I am so happy for you and your D!

@quagmiro - that is a huge bummer but good thing you had the foresight to ask that question.

@eyemamom - I wish you could post a picture of the dress for everyone to see. Initially, I was somewhat relieved when my D told me that she and her boyfriend decided to skip prom. It tends to be rather expensive around here and I have been stressing about college costs and medical expenses. Now I am half hoping she’ll change her mind. You’ve gotten me excited about prom!

@barnardmom - We are chilling the champage to toast you at the bar on the Indecision so hang in there!

That’s awesome news everyone! Keep the good news coming!
barnardmom, Yes, we are chilling the champagne to toast you! I started reading up on digital security and it is fascinating.

@2016BarnardMom – the homestretch is sometimes the toughest part. I graduated in May after 3 years of just barely full time at our local cc-- with our own coursework, kids to juggle, and mom responsibilities it is a lot harder to get to the finish line with any energy whatsoever! I think I was semi-comatose for six months afterward.

Congrats on your achievement!!

Sounds like everyone has some great news. Especially Vandeyes - CONGRATULATIONS!! I think I would have hugged the UPS guy.

Hopefully this good news continues to get us through the next snow/polar vortex plunge.

@Vandyeyes - Wow! That’s wonderful news! Congrats!!

@CT1417 - Last year a whole group of us moms and daughters went Prom dress shopping on a snow day (roads were clear but sidewalks and school lots weren’t so schools were closed). One mom couldn’t go as she was working so one girl brought a close mom friend who has two boys. I think she had the most fun of all of us seeing all the girls (at least 10!) trying on different dresses! It was so fun to have her along!

Congratulations @vVandyeyes!

@Quagmiro – good thing you found out now!

Yesterday was DS’s birthday so I now have an adult on my hands. This is quite the crazy week for him, with morning tryouts (6:15 ugh) for his spring sport and then after school rehearsals for the big cultural event his school puts on. He is one tired guy and is battling through a cold. Luckily tryouts are really just a formality for him and his coach knows he is sick so he doesn’t have to stress about not being 100%.

The cultural show is such a hot seller that they had to move it to George Mason and tickets STILL sold out in a matter of hours (although better than the 8 minute sell out last year when it was at school). They added a second show at school on Saturday for students only, with tickets sold by lottery.

It is also basketball playoff season for the local rec league and he has a full slate of games to ref and coach. Last week he refereed 7 games and coached 2. This week he is refereeing 9 games and coaching at least once.

But he is happy to have the money, what with prom coming up. He is nearly the same size as DH, so he might be able to wear DH’s tux to the prom although he will have to rent shoes since he and DH are different shoe sizes. He’ll save some money if he does that, although he will still have to pay for his share of the party bus, plus dinner. I will spring for the corsage, which is the cheapest part of the evening.

He did get money from both sets of grandparents for his birthday though, so that helps. And DH and I surprised him by reimbursing him for the money he paid for his beach week house as one of his gifts. I taped money to some ribbon and then tied the ribbon to the inside of an umbrella, and then filled the umbrella with fake money (untied). I wrapped it up and wrote a card that referred to practical gifts now that he’s an adult, and we thought he could use this particular gift for our trip to London (or for another rainy day). We encouraged him to open it so he could see the umbrella design, and when he did of course all the play money rained down on him, and the real money dangled from the ribbons! It was pretty funny and of course we all had our cell phones out to record.

Wow, vandyeyes!! That is some delivery - so happy for you!

@Vandyeyes–SO, SO, SO happy for you! It’s is such an insane relief to know that they will be taken care of and that your child can move forward without the stress of going into debt. Start imagining a more perfect retirement! One of go2girl’s chilldhood friends also receivd the DHS. It was a beast of an application and how proud you must be! Enjoy the moment!

Thanks for all the congrats…may the road prove smooth for all those awaiting news… :x

@2014novamom—very cute birthday money story!! I hope that you will not need the umbrella in London. We visited London during our April break a couple of years ago and it was almost hot! It was 70+ degrees the day of the London marathon and not a drop of rain. Not the weather we packed for but were thrilled to enjoy it.

These morning sports practices are ridiculous. My son returned from a swim meet at 9:30 last night and was up again at 5:30 for AM practice. How can they perform when tired? Let alone academics….

@akmom124–how fun! I will have to keep my ears open for a prom dress shopping opportunity!

ExpatSon was invited back to be a junior counselor at the summer camp he attended as a boy. Hopefully we’ll see similar gains in maturity & responsibility that he demonstrated after working there last summer as a ropes/climbing instructor.

Wooster’s ‘Yes’ arrived yesterday, which was very nice to see after being deferred EA.

BTW, anyone’s student happen to apply RD to St. Mary’s College of MD and hear from them?

@CT1417 - It’s been a year or two since expatSon could wear my shoes. I now wear his old slippers.
size=1[/size]

my student applied to st marys of maryland regular decision but before nov 15th. we have heard nothing.

Have you noticed how some of the ads in the top banner change to the items you recently were looking on either Macy’s or amazon websites? It is a little spooky, need to start flushing out the cache often.

@expatCanuck - congratulations on your S’s acceptance to Wooster. I have several family members that attended Wooster and loved it! My D worked as a JC at her childhood summer camp. She too seemed the better for it. One of the colleges she loves was chosen, in part, because it reminded her so much of that camp.

@expatCanuck - St Mary’s is my neck of the woods! If you need any info about the school let me know. My sons gf attends and lots of local kids go there.

I have enjoyed reading updates from others but haven’t had anything of note to add. We are still waiting for Cal Poly SLO to release acceptances for engineering… nothing for days.
Today S14 received an invitation to a UC Santa Barbara Reception Honoring Top Applicants. S11 received the same invitation 3 years ago. They announce acceptance at the reception, so that means he will be offered admission. Finally some more good news. UCSB is one of S14 top schools, so he is excited! Hopefully, more good news will be forthcoming in March.
