Parents of the HS Class of 2014

@minnymom - exciting to hear that UC decisions are coming in. My D did not apply to any (still not sure how THAT happened…) but all of her friends did. Congrats on UCD and UCI!

Congrats Minnymom! Wonderful news!

That’s great minnymom!

We got the first financial aid package today. Admittedly, it is smaller than I expected, but I should be used to that now, right? It appears that having two in college did allow for a Perkins loan and federal work study, neither of which has been offered to Barnardgirl (but might this year?). Overall, it is doable, if not ideal. I did find out that S14 will receive a Michigan Competitive Scholarship if he attends one of the in-state schools. Another school just notified us they want tax returns so I need to fax those on Monday. That school would also be a Michigan Competitive Scholarship school.

Congratulations Minnymom and BarnardMom!

Congratulations Minnymom on the acceptances ! Also congratulation to Bardnardmom on the scholarship!

Speaking of FA packages, once we receive them is there a deadline when to accept them? That is…I can wait until D decides on the school in mid April and commits then go into the FA part and accepts. They don’t get rid of it after 30 days or something right?

DD got into MIT! Results came out last night. Very happy for her.

MIT ! Congratulations JasmineRose!

A reminder that the acceptances list is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZxUwgbCqcCpq4L_2L4lAhqcKQAN0AyGHDAjf1rDX9rI/edit?usp=sharing

Thanks to @crowlady for setting up a googledocs for our acceptance list when CC made it impossible to continue to update it! Have all of you added your D’s & S’s acceptances (and final decisions) to the list? It’s fun to keep up with where everyone is thinking about and eventually landing.

A BIG congratulations to @BarnardMom2016 on finishing grad school! And just in time to spend spring break with her Barnard D!

And congratulations on recent acceptances and scholarships!

I don’t remember if I posted, but DS was waitlisted at his last school on his list - WashU. He chose to stay on the waitlist (not sure why), but our final list is 5 schools to decide from. A bit part of the decision is going to be the final package. We are hoping to hear today from UTulsa on his full-ride competitive scholarship. And we’re still planning to visit UMich and Kettering in two weeks. He’s received scholarships from both, but still not near enough to make either affordable. Here’s hoping some outside scholarships come through!!

DS is on a backpacking trip right now with his scout troop - he is now in the Asst. Cubmaster role since he passed his 18th birthday and is now an Eagle Scout. I’m glad he is staying involved with the troop!
He joined the high school jazz band this year playing bass guitar. He has played bass guitar for several years with his “garage band”, but has never been in the school’s organized band. That was quite the learning curve in trying to play catch up in learning to read music! They went to a competition last week and he receive Outstanding Soloist marks! He failed to mention that to me…I saw it on the band’s facebook page that several students earned that rank so I asked. No big deal to him … I thought it was great! Gosh, I’m going to miss him when he leaves!!

Congratulations, @JasmineRose!!

I kind of feel like someone coming really late to a party where lots of inside jokes are circulating… so excuse my ignorance— but is the fantasy cruise ship the same as the SS Indecision or are they different vessels? (From my point of view right now, waiting for acceptances, the SS Indecision sounds like a great place to be!)

Welcome to the party, @staceyneil! Feel free to start on page 1 and get caught up! haha!! ;)

SS Indecision welcomes all passengers with the Captain @avonhsdad at the helm. Those of us with undecided kids get to sit back in the lounge chairs and be served umbrella drinks (while we wait for our kids to make decisions) by those passengers whose kids have already decided. I hope they have roller skates, because I’m going to be needing lots of those fruity drinks!!

Yay! That sounds like fun. My fingers are crossed that I’ll be able to join the cruise!

You get to join the virtual cruise - it’s just whether you will be serving drinks or relaxing in the chaise lounge being served! ;)

@cakeisgreat- the financial aid package will remain available through May 1, so you can weigh all options before submitting SIR. Some colleges that offer merit scholarships may ask you to Accept The Terms of the scholarship within a window of time, but this doesn’t bind you to the college.

Are margaritas (rocks/salt please) served on SS Indecision? I am so ready for one!

Wow, so much news here! Congrats to everyone hearing positive news and to those hearing some disappointing news, I’m a firm believer that there is karma to this process…most kids land in the right place for them.

@jasminerose, your daughter has such a tough decision to make if my memory serves me right. Congrats on her MIT decision and on her EA decision to Harvard (if memory is correct)!

@beadymom Well the other option is I don’t get to come onboard at all, if D has no viable options come April 1st! (We had a very unusual situation and if I allow myself to worry I have to acknowledge that’s a slight possibility. Ugh.)

D’s first fin aid offer arrived, too. It was a good package, but no Gear Up award. The school has been telling us that every student in the cohort gets the award no matter what. Going to a conference next week so I had to send an email

@staceyneil I feel you! My S did not receive any of the “big” scholarships we were hoping for so there may not be a decision to make if all we can do is accept the scholarship at the State school that neither of us is happy about. Waiting for financial aid packages and praying I will have the opportunity to join everyone on the SS Indecision!
