Parents of the HS Class of 2014

I was considering sending out announcements but not the ones through the company where I purchased her graduation portraits. I am a big fan of Shutterfly and thought I would customize one where I could put a picture of her from kindergarten alongside her graduation picture … and a logo for the college she will be attending (don’t I wish I had a crystal ball and could design that card right now!). I received a formal announcement once from a friend. It was like a wedding invitation complete with a return addressed envelope for a gift. I am so against that and don’t want my announcement to be construed as a beg for a gift. Mine will just be like the ones you get from your long lost friends at Christmas with a picture of their kids on it. Think it would be nice as we live in FL and our family (very small) and friends are in CT and other parts of FL.

DD is waiting patiently - me not so much! She received an early write to Smith but no scholarship and can’t view any financial aid online. And she doesn’t have a decision posted for Mt. Holyoke yet while others are reporting news. Her page just says all acceptances will be posted by April 1st. Ugh! I’m so not liking this waiting!! We’re really hoping for acceptance and scholarship to Mt. Holyoke so this is killing me. Okay, vent over.

@staceyneil - so sorry your DD wasn’t accepted to Smith. Hope she hears good news soon from Mt. Holyoke!

@1dilecom…also waiting on Rice.decision here…how did you learn that tonight’s “the night”? With no merit expected, highly unlikely that S will attend.

Max and I will probably buy our DD a laptop to mark the occasion.

I am also making Spygirl a quilt. One side will represent her h.s., with appliqué for clubs & interests. The other side will have her college colors and logo. That’s the plan anyway. Now if she only knew where she was going to enroll.

We should whip up a pitcher of margaritas or mojitos for everyone waiting for decisions. One of Spygirl’s favorite schools will be releasing decisions tomorrow at noon, while we shop for prom dresses. Hopefully it’s good news. Another top choice will post next Wednesday. And the last one via snail mail sometime after April 1. You’d think they’d have discovered the internet by now.

Cute idea @yellowgranite. The Kinder pic with the grad photo is perfect.

@vandyeyes - not a definite that Rice will release decisions, just a guesstimate of 6pm based on prior years’ releases according to CC “Countdown to RD Decisions (Class of 2018)” Best wishes to your S whenever it’s released, even if he decides not to attend. After 6pm now, and D hasn’t said anything, so maybe not tonight afterall. Will have to check Rice thread.

@Agentninetynine - love the quilt idea!

My D is waiting nervously for UCLA. This is the first school that she really cares about. She was like, eh, when she was accepted by USC and the other schools.

No mail from Kenyon. We wait another day.

@Agent99 - love the quilt idea too! And the margaritas!

Good luck everyone!

Good luck on UCLA everyone - that’s my alma mater. It wasn’t NEARLY so hard to get into in 1986!!!
Or maybe I shouldn’t let that secret out…

Congrats on all of the acceptances!

DD went to work and left her phone here on the kitchen counter. Just as I was putting dishes away, an email popped up from Amherst. I didn’t open it, the subject line said Congratulations from Amherst!! She doesn’t get off until 10pm. I’m so excited! 4 for 4.

@agentninetynine—RE: Quilt. Have you seen the ones where scraps from favorite tee shirts are used (team sports or otherwise). I can’t sew a button, so I would never attempt such a thing, but have seen a couple and then are a fun keepsake.

Wrestling with a migraine all day so it was fun to pop on and see the flurry of activity! Congrats to all with good news coming in and fingers crossed for those still waiting. go2girl will see if she got into Claremont-McKenna, her only LAC, at 5 today. They accept most students ED so we’re not expecting good news. We are also sending announcements a couple of weeks prior to graduation. Some will include an invitation to attend the graduation; others an after graduation party. Since go2girl could not find a class ring she liked, I’m tempted to get her a ring for graduation. We will have to upgrade her 5 year old laptop–it’s on its last leg. Hope everyone gets a wonderful spring break.

@akmom,

We visited Smith last year, I fell in love with everything about that place! Unfortunately, DD was not as impressed. No single sex school for her. If I had my druthers, she would have applied there…

Yay @NewHavenCTmom, Congratulations!! What a great school!

Just saw from Ms. Sun that UCLA is announcing at 5pm (CA time) today…

Thanks for the info on Rice, @1dilecon, good luck to your daughter…thought it was an amazing place.
congrats @newhavenCTmom D on Amherst…also thought it was an amazing place, and for what it’s worth, hands down had the best dorms!

Sons want engraved pocket knives! It’s what I gave my ushers and best man at my wedding, and more than 20 years later they still have them and thank me
(think classy mother of pearl handled Swiss Army)

We were probably about the last without any news at all – D applied to ten (not counting my place of employ), and finally got her first real answer today: a “yes” from Carleton. A very good start to spring break. A few more results expected tomorrow, and the rest next week. And then a month of indecision, I expect!

Congrats @2014ProfDad - always good to start with a Yes!

Crazy! go2girl just got a phone call from her admissions rep that she’s been admitted to Claremont-McKenna.They have not made decisions yet on the Seaver scholarship recipients.

@newhavenCTmom - Congrats on Amherst! That’s fantastic! DD loved Smith when we went to the Preview day. Loved Mt. Holyoke the first time we saw it but that Preview Day didn’t go so well. DD wasn’t really focused on women’s colleges until she saw both of them and heard some of the tour guides talking and a light bulb went off for her with some of the comments that were expressed.

I went to Wellesley so she has been around my college friends for years, including her godmother  But she’s in to both Smith and Holyoke now!! And the financial aid next year at Holyoke is doable given DS’11 is still in school. So we’ve got some visiting to do. If she goes to Smith, my aunt will be very happy and if she goes to Holyoke, my mother in law will be very happy. And I’m resigned to either if that’s where she wants to be! But we’re still waiting for the bigger ones to come next week. Waiting is so hard!!
