I second that.

I second that.

@2018dad, UCLA acceptance is a great way to end the week. Congrats!

Yes! CC is very addictive…that’s why I had to step away for all those months! I was obsessed…lol

So many congratulations to pass out I can’t keep up with them all … so congrats to all!

Most of the parties here are also backyard tent parties. I cooked for Barnardgirl’s party but I budgeted for catering this time. That was just too much work. Besides, he wants Mexican food and that’s harder for me to cook in massive quantities. I may do some different Mexican dips and a taco bar, but anything else would be catered.

A great Mexican dip, you may know this one already…

Shredded cheese
Salsa
Cream cheese

Cream cheese is bottom layer
Salsa is middle layer
Cheese top layer

Cook in oven until it bubbles. I have added black olives and or shredded/ground meats.

Delicious and always a hit!

As a UCLA grad I want to congratulate everyone who got accepted there. Also congrats to the CMC and Smith acceptances and every college I may have forgotten to mention.

For those of you who children may be getting bad news I want to tell you that the grass really is greener on the other side. I remember 4 years ago with my oldest. He was accepted early to about 8 colleges and then all his rejections (5) came within a 24 hour period. Back then everyone did it April 1. It was a tough time and I must admit I took it much harder than my son. However when we visited him for that first parent weekend in the fall all could say was “thank goodness those reach schools rejected me; I love my college and could not imagine being anywhere else!!”. He has never looked back and is very happy.

I am in a panic because I have two graduations 3000 miles apart this May. The college graduation where they just announced that Chris Matthews is the speaker (last year they had the president). I have to plan 3 days of meals for 20 relatives coming into town. Then the end of May for DD and her high school. The day after we are throwing a combine graduation party for them since all the relatives from the first graduation will be flying into town. I am getting it catered with greek food. I am frantically working on my garden and house to make sure everything is nice but it seems every day something new breaks (today was the door bell). Two days after the party we go to Cabo San Lucas for a vacation. The kids didn’t want to go but I am making them take one “final” vacation with me. From our coast it is pretty cheap.

DS enters Officers Candidate School in Sept. and DD starts college on Aug. 6. Today when DS called to go over his plans I cried all afternoon “I want my babies back!!”.

Maybe we can have another cruise in the fall for those of us who will be empty nesters.

Good luck to all in the next week. I will be keeping my fingers crossed.

DS was accepted tonight at University of Virginia. I am afraid it won’t be affordable, though. We were hoping for a lottery like situation there, the Jefferson, but DS never advanced in that competition.

I was hoping that Rice would come out tonight, but it seems it will be Monday or later.

That cruise is the Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas departing Southampton, UK on October 15th and arriving Ft. Lauderdale on October 27th. If you prefer, you can board in Rotterdam on the 14th but the fares are higher.

Congrats to all of the UCLA acceptances! And the Claremont-McKenna and UVA acceptances!

@4beardolls
I agree. Nice to have acceptances before Rejection Day on the 27th. D just found out that she got Regents Scholarship at UCLA It’s not much since the monetary award is honorarium if you’re not qualified for need-based aid. The good benefit for being a Regents scholar is have priority during enrollment.

UCLA Acceptance in! one more week to go for the biggies to come in.is there is a place where the pros and cons of each college is being discussed to decide?

Welcome @colorfulflowers and congratulations to you and to @collegetime18 and @Minnymom on acceptances to UCLA!

@Dave_N - congratulations on S’s acceptance to UVA. Great school and beautiful campus!

@itsv - I understand how you feel. After college, S found a job and an apartment nearby. He pops in occasionally for dinner and his office is close to mine so we sometimes meet for lunch. He told me last night that he accepted a job offer half way across the country. I’m excited for him, and think it’s a great opportunity, but it hit me that both of my children will likely be far away. I am going to miss my “babies” too! Looks like I will be joining you on the empty nesters cruise!

Congrats to those who received good news last night. Son was accepted at Va Tech, which was nice.

I would like to join the empty nest cruise, please…only child will be going away to college and only spouse will be going halfway across the world for work for a year plus. Gonna need to find a hobby.

Trying to compile a chart comparing/contrasting schools. Other than financial info, what types of categories do you think should be included?

D got into Mount Holyoke! I’m so relieved. She’s so excited!!!

@akmom124- congrats on MHC and Smith!!! We may see you at MHC’s accepted students day!

@NewHavenCTmom- congrats on Amherst. I’m thrilled that my D loves the Northampton area so much, it’s beautiful. And I completely hear you on the nervousness. My D managed to keep herself distracted up until the very last moment. She even told me, “Why worry about it when there is nothing else I can do now?” Meanwhile, I was a nervous wreck. I got about zero productive work done the last couple of days

Congratulations 2014 Prof Dad and Go2Mom! I loved Carleton when I was applying many moons ago but I had a 4 yr Army ROTC scholarship and they didn’t have the program.

Congrats to @colorfulflowers, @Dave_N, @spritle, @staceyneil, @akmom and anyone I missed.
@spritle : I think you should get a puppy! Unconditional love and cuddling!

Congrats to those getting the good news! Very happy for you & your children!

Before heading into work this morning, DD decided to check her junk/spam email…

Lo & behold, an email(time stamped 4:55 pm) from UNC Chapel Hill was in there. Her application is on hold because they need her transcript from her dual enrollment class at Southern Connecticut, even though the class is on her high school transcript…so annoying that they wait all these months to say something. WTH? X(

And now we have to wait the whole weekend to follow up.

^ Argh! That would make me angry as well. Why didn’t they let you know sooner?!?

Such great news! It is hard to keep up! S got accepted to Wheaton (MA) this morning…6 out 6 so far… S received a very attractive FA package from Muhlenberg so we will be visiting …Colby is up today …not hopeful and S has already moved on…

@Spritle - I agree with Mrs. Pepper - it would be nice to get a puppy. I am starting a spreadsheet too, I would include total cost ( I excluded estimated books and personal expense because I don’t think it will vary much from school to school), FA, scholarship, program offered, ( I want S to rate program) , research opportunities, grad school opportunities ( might need a ranking here), instructional support program ( ADD), If travel expense is a factor I would add a col. for travel. This will keep me busy…

@newhavenCTmom- that would also make me angry! You might be able to go on- line at Southern CT and request the transcript be sent to UNC Chapel Hill.

Think twice about a puppy! We got one in anticipation of our soon-to-be empty nest and it’s like having a toddler, except now I lack the energy that I had 18 years ago. Think about adopting a slightly older dog, who has already been trained and housebroken. #buyersremorse #hessocutethough
