Wow - who would have thought things would get more complicated with more choices at this point in the game! Good luck with the decisions @go2mom! And @2016BarnardMom - I hope it’s clearer after your Michigan visit.

Ahhh, very tired after a long drive yesterday, very little sleep last night, and a busy day today. But is is really official this time!! D14 has decided on UCSC, and once we get home we will file her SIR. The program information we received during the Chancellor’s reception fully affirmed that they have exactly the right program for her, and she is very happy about the courses being presented to the FYHP members. And, D15 also loves the school, so she will be applying in the fall.

Added bonus for me, I was very fortunate to have the chance to meet the lovely MIMI2012 and her family at the event this morning!! It was a delight-- thank you so much for coming up and introducing yourself!

Congrats to all the decisions made recently! Good luck to @go2mom & @barnardmom2016 on your choices!!

I thought I was going to get seasick earlier today. DS put his deposit down at Alabama a week and a half ago and we are very pleased with that … moving forward with scheduling orientation and week long activity prior to school starting. He’s found roommates and has even facebook messaged with them!

Prior to making his decision, there were 5 schools on the list. 3 we decided would include too much in loans. So today he received an unexpected envelope from one of the 3 more expensive options. They awarded him an additional large scholarship making the total COA less than the deposited school! Wow!! I am so glad it was not me having to make the decision. He didn’t blink an eye and said he wanted to stay with the deposited school! I gave him time to think about it before I brought it up again just to make sure. And he said he was sure then gave a few reasons why he was happy with his choice.

These poor kids! I feel like sometimes the rope in a huge tug-of-war. Just when you think you have all the facts to make a good decision, they yank the rope the other way!

Congrats PetraElise!

. . . and Go2mom – Wow! Great options.

@go2mom - That’s great news but I must emphathize with go2girl’s decision dilemma. It sound like you will really need to make a detailed pros and cons list, right down to the small stuff like access to laundry in the dorms, number of off campus locations taking dining dollars, costs of sporting events tickets for the varsity teams, availability of transportation including public busses, zip cars, school shuttles and plane/train accessibility, class size ratios (see CDS), male/female student ratios (see CDS), number of school sponsored clubs, walking times across campus, and so forth and so on. (CDS = common data set). Best wishes and keep us informed as it sounds like you will be onboard until the end of the cruise.

@2016BarnardMom - It sounds like you are in a very similar situation regarding evaluating the options. Best wishes as well and please report the final Michigan location decision when you disembark next week.

Congrats on your D’s decision, @PetraElise ! UCSC is such a beautiful place!! So glad my S is settled and I don’t think anything could sway him – I couldn’t take it!!! S met a kid at quiz bowl competition yesterday and turns out they are headed to the same school and might try to room together. Love it when happy coincidences happen!

Happy Easter everybody and congratulations to all whose kids made their decision already.

We are still undecided. Good news is D’s principal officially informed my daughter that’s she’s the class valedictorian. It was a dream came true for her.

Congrats, @2018dad!!!

Congratulations everyone who have made the final decision and paid the deposit!

2018Dad! Awesome news ! You must be so proud.

Well it’s official! UVM HONORS COLLEGE - I just paid the deposit! My S said …UVM was my first choice - it was just hard to make the decision final ! I just paid the deposit and I am ready to start serving drinks.
My hubby made me a wonderful martini last might - Blood red orange vodka with Pomegranate Blueberry juice with a twist of lime! Yum! Can I get anyone anything!

I am half on the boat and half off. We visited the University of Pittsburgh on Friday. At the end of the day, my daughter asked me to go over to Admissions and pay the deposit! She really liked Pitt and they gave her a full tuition scholarship! I am so happy for her. My son is still deciding!

^^ awesome!

@2018Dad Isn’t that valedictorian status connected to a scholarship? Or was that someone else who needed that info for a scholarship? Either way- that’s great news!

One thing that is incredibly frustrating to me is that I won’t have BarnardGirl’s financial aid package for 2014-15 until late June/early July. It’s making it impossible to plan or budget for anything and it’s really irking me. I talked to her today and she said she’d stop by the Financial Aid office and see if we can get a hint. She says they’re super nice in there. Ok, cool.

I think I’m recuperating from grad school. I have gotten nothing done for the second weekend in a row. There are so many things I want to get done, but I just can’t function well. It’s like I have totally crashed after 4 1/2 years of chaos. I hope I break out of this soon! I am just totally useless. All I did was laundry and light cleaning this weekend. There are branches in the yard that should be picked up. There are things waiting to be sewed. I kept thinking about making bagels today but never did it. I can’t do anything. I’m a total slug. I watched Forrest Gump 3 times in two days. I should have prepped the grad announcements and party invites. I’m going to hate myself eventually for being a slug.

Oh, and I don’t think I’ll disembark right away when he comes to a decision. The way things are going, there could end up being an offer to take him off the wait list somewhere. LOL. Just when I think it’s all set…

We are officially at a port-of-call! Go2girl made her decision today–she will be attending Vanderbilt in the fall! It was difficult deciding between Notre Dame and Claremont-McKenna. They all offered amazing scholarship opportunities and she became invested in her relationships with not only the other scholars, but the administrators as well. Making those tough phone calls today was heartbreaking. I have never heard her sob so hard after letting them know of her decision. She realizes that it was not just her effort that got her to this point; other people went to bat for her and recognized that she could contribute in meaningful ways to their communties. They showed the love and she felt it. I am relieved to know that we are moving forward but I feel so fortunate to have had so many wonderful, smart, caring friends in the High School Class of 2014 Community on CC–thank you for your support! And good luck to everyone who is still on board!

Congrats @go2mom!

@2016BarnardMom
No, her Val status is not connected to any scholarship. My D is still deciding between UCLA and Cornell.

@onlyonemom @collegetime18
Thanks!

Congrats to your daughter 2018dad! What wonderful news!

@2016BarnardMom Don’t beat yourself up! You’ve worked incredibly hard and deserve some down time. Also, I gave up picking sticks in the yard years ago. They eventually decompose, right?

Welcome to the serving crew, @go2mom and @onlyonemom and congrats to @2018dad’s D. I’m sure there are many others to congratulate but I’m too tired to back up to previous pages.

S is back from Europe. Party is over. He has to fill out a housing essay for his special interest housing and you’d think it was like applying to college all over again. Of course the longer he waits the lower his priority in line for picking rooms and roommates. And he’s got AP prep and the senior writing project also to do. He says he can’t not overthink the housing essay. Sigh.

Thanks @crowlady I’m talking some medium sized branches though, not just sticks Sticks get ground up by the lawn mower! These branches could make good kindling for a nice fire in the fire pit I haven’t built yet, on the patio I want to put in after I tear the deck down… yeah, there’s a lot to do! I did end up making the bagels (and eating a few of them hot out of the oven too!).

Happy Easter!

@2018Dad - Congratulations! I know you must be so proud of your D! What a wonderful accomplishment.

@go2mom - A great choice from among great choices! Congratulations on a decision! Go Dores!

@doverdover - Congratulations!

@2016BarnardMom - it sounds like you are just taking a well deserved rest. Everyone needs to recharge occasionally.

@go2mom, your DD made a very difficult but thoughtful decision. She can now look forward to her new home for the next four years.

Congrats to 2018 Dad’s Val!

Congrats to onlyonemom’s S for his UVM Honors choice!

Congrats to doverdover D’s Pitt choice and scholarship!

Congrats to go2mom D’s Vanderbilt choice!

Please note that the SS Indecision will be returning to home port in just 10 days.
