S14 has senior ball in two more weeks. He decided to go in a group and not ask a girl. Today he told me a girl he is friends with asked him! Good for her. I am glad he will take a girl… It’s his first date dance and his older brother went in a group.

Wow, I thought early June graduation is early (for my D). I have no idea that some schools ends as early as May 19.

My son’s last day of classes is May 5, exams May 6-9. Prom is May 9. Then the seniors are done. Well, there are the random AP tests. (My son has one after school is out) and, of course, track practice and meets will continue. Graduation, though, isn’t until May 25. It is kind of weirdly early. The rest of the school is not out until May 23.

S14 is avoiding making his decision. It’s making me crazy. He wouldn’t even discuss it tonight. I brought it up twice and he changed the subject.

Our graduation is May 22. The rest of the school doesn’t get out until June 6. Rumor has it that years ago the seniors traded their senior skip day for an early graduation but I’m not 100% sure that’s true.

Well, remember, to get done in May, we start mid-August (none of this after Labor Day stuff).

We started Aug 26th (one full week before Labor Day) and the last day of school will be graduation day, June 18th. Six snow days were tacked onto the end of the year, but we invariably have snow days or power outage days, so these dates are close to our typical.

S14 will have a long summer. School ends on May 28th. College move-in is September 27th. He has to find a summer job!

@Minnymom—wow! Graduation June 18th, drive to college August 21st. It might be challenging to find a summer job that runs that late into September.

Even though we haven’t paid the deposit to Cornell, it looks like my daughter is favoring it against UCLA so I booked our hotels already for Cornell’s orientation/move-in day. I can always cancel it if she chooses UCLA. Those hotel rates are going up.

I booked them the morning after Dec 16th! I also booked for parents’ weekend (Halloween) but can cancel w/o penalty. I don’t know if the rates are still increasing or if the hotels just charge more for those dates. Statler did not allow on-line bookings and imposed two night minimums. Rates are considerably higher than I have paid for previous stays.

Would love to hear how accepted student day was run as my son didn’t bother attending and it was nothing back in my day. Hope she ends up choosing Cornell!

Graduation is May 23 here – but they start around Aug 12th, so makes sense that the graduation is earlier. D15 will be in class a week longer, and d14 will still have college classes for a week after HS graduation, so really it is the 30th of May before she is done completely. UCSC move-in is the end of September, so she is looking at a long summer break too. Luckily, her job will be thrilled to have her for an extra 5 weeks or so, since it’s always a problem when the coaches go off to college in August.

Congrats to everyone for wonderful decisions! I would mention everyone specifically, but the pomegranite champagne I’m drinking to celebrate the final decision is preventing me from being sharp enough to remember all of the names, lol

D announced this evening that she found a roommate for this fall. She said it was scary how similar they are with their likes, dislikes, majors, study habits, boyfriends (?!?), study habits, sleep schedules, food likes / dislikes, etc. She is from suburban Chicago and it seems the two of them have a lot of common “midwest” similarities.

D checked her new student portal today and found a list of 25 items she must address and complete before June 1st. That will keep her busy after classes end in mid-May!

We compared the academic calendars for S and D and found that we will not have any conflicts with move-in this fall and move-out in the spring. The fact that S-2011 will be off-campus adds some flexibility. Things never work out like this. I can’t image how this worked out without a big conflict.

It appears that a majority of cruisers have selected their final port of call. We do, however, still have a moderate number of undecideds left. They will be working overtime in the remaing few days onboard.

Prom is this Saturday! Only two more weeks of classes.

senior skip day today!

Graduation for Son '14 is June 8. If he does not have to take any senior exams (and he thinks that he won’t), his final day is May 30. But that day is sectionals for track, so he won’t be in school that day. He does not have a summer job as of yet, but he’s hoping to do some refereeing at various soccer tournaments to pick up some extra money. Move-in day is around August 12, as he reports for cross country practice on the 14th. Hope he’s available to help his older brother move into his place before law school starts. Son '14 is also going to the prom with a girl who runs on the track team. The two are good friends. Of course, he needs to make time to get a tux.

Graduation here is May 30th. Last class day for seniors is May 23rd. Afterward they have graduation practice, the senior trip, and general freedom. Last day of school for non-seniors is June 2nd. Our school cut days due to snow days rather than make them all up (some sort of state option available). If they hadn’t done that I think they’d have been going until June 5th.

No APs to worry about…

College drop off day is Aug 8th.

Time will fly!

I couldn’t get CC to load all day yesterday yet all of you posted throughout the day. Very odd!

May 30th is graduation for us but he’s done with classes May 23rd, I think. In that time, we have Senior Honors Night, prom and 3 AP tests. He is on Spring Break this week and leaves tonight with the marching band for a 4 day whirlwind trip to NYC. BarnardGirl is going to try to meet up with him on Friday in Times Square. I sent her their itinerary and that’s the only time she can meet up with them when they aren’t at an attraction that requires a ticket. They are going to try to be on the Today Show on Friday morning. I need to set my DVR.

Last night, S said “I’m going to end up telling you to enroll me at Michigan, but I’m not ready to say it yet.” He will make either school work, but neither school feels like a great fit to him.

We got back from our final college visit yesterday with an unofficial decision. The trip made it very obvious where he’s going but very hard to make it official. UCF made us an offer so hard to refuse. Not only would they pay for everything (including personal expenses), he would get about $3,000 per year in his pocket. Plus he would be able to keep the money I have in his 529 account to use for medical/grad school. But he absolutely says he can’t see himself anywhere else but Vandy (where they gave us almost full tuition but we have to cover everything else.)

Everything was just perfect for him at Vandy. We spent several days there and there was very little if anything he could say was a negative. Much better school, much smaller, much more beautiful campus. But most importantly, it was just a better fit. He felt at home there, like he belonged. At the end of the day, no matter how many times people say “Why pay for undergrad when you can get it for free?”, they are going to spend 4 years of their life there and they should feel like they are in the right place.

The “official” announcement and the enrollment deposit haven’t been made yet because he is just going to make sure his Dad is on board with the decision before we pull the trigger. We will need his Dad’s help with covering some of the cost if we are going to make it work and based on our last conversation, he has agreed to do that if it’s what S really wants.

S will spend the rest of the week on Spring break catching up on school work (English paper, projects, etc.) and preparing for practice AP tests which will count as Final Exams. One more week of school and then AP/final exams for the next two weeks. He has 4 APs and may have to take one final exam if he can’t bring his grade in that class up to an A (seniors with an A in a non-AP class are exempt from the final.) Prom is May 17th and graduation is May 29th. I can’t believe it’s almost over!

Oh yeah, move in day for college is August 17th. D does move in a week early for cheer. I know what you mean @AvonHSdad about crossing fingers on dates. Oldest moves into an apartment this weekend, and wouldn’t you know it, youngest qualified for a very meet track meet 4 hours a way. Can’t be in two places at once. However, when I checked spring break dates, I see that both D’s have the same break. Vegas this summer may not be the very last family vacation after all!
