@beadymom @go2mom - I’m glad you’ve had great launches!

So I tried to talk to D yesterday about finding a quiet place and some of the challenges she is likely to face with a lack of alone time. The response: "Mom, I’ll be fine. It’s not like I’ve never lived with a bunch of girls at camp before! " D has never been one to take advice - definitely a figure it out for herself type. I just hope a little bit of what I say registers in some part of her brain!

@12dandelion - D’s room is also located across from a community bath and she is keeping her fingers crossed that it’s the girls’ bathroom. She has never shared a bathroom. She’s not overly modest, but I think she’d freak if she had to share a community bath with boys!

We decided to postpone the wisdom teeth extraction until winter break. There is just so much going on and I was worried that we were cutting it too close should she have any complications.

I helped my S move out of his duplex after college graduation. His bathroom was so gross!

@oldmom4896 and @12dandelion – I plan to go to the Pastries with Parents event at RIT on 8/20 at 8:30am – would love to meet you both there. I know this is an emotional time for all of us but especially for those facing additional major transitions. I thought I’d updated the list with my S but I guess it didn’t take.

@fogfog - Your K1and K2 sound like the have a great relationship. So glad your K1 will be able to be there for K2’s move-in. So sorry to hear about your dog.

@calla1 - so happy to hear the iPod decoy is working! What a great idea that was!

We are in countdown mode here! We fly out first thing Monday morning, and it seems there’s still so much to do. D received a call from her pediatrician yesterday that her EKG (required by the school for all incoming athletes) came back abnormal and although dr didn’t think it was anything serious, she said it may or may not prevent D from participating in her sport, and D needed to see the cardiologist. After calling around to several cardiologists, finally found one with an opening before we fly out. So D and I will visit the cardiologist tomorrow morning. Saturday, I drive up to DC area to pick up my mom, who will be visiting with my boys while I’m gone. We have a boxload of wall art (most of which my D has made) still to mail, wash and packing to finish up, and D’s boyfriend on his way down as I type to go to a concert tonight with D and her friends. In some ways, it will be a relief to get on the plane Monday morning.

Have really appreciated everyone’s advice on everything from safes, to quiet retreats, to documents to bring!

@1dilecon: Good luck with the cardiologist. Hope it’s just a formality and all is well.

Oops…never added D to the list.

Wow - looks like lots are launching in the next week. Hope it all goes well for everyone! And @1dilecon - hope the cardiologist appointment is good. Glad you were able to fit that in before you leave!

We’re still in the sorting and shopping mode here! DD and roommate have to decide by Thursday whether to order a rug to be delivered to their room before they arrive. Since it’s a fairly large room, it may make sense to get something to cover a lot of the floor and then fill it up with colorful throw rugs. We’ll see.

DD and I did a quick run down to Brown on Sunday with a friend of hers. “Stalked” her dorm room and found it easily. Really nice location very centrally located. It’s funny how different distances look in real life versus looking at a map. And if she ever gets lost, there’s a map on the wall of her dorm right outside the door! It was a fun trip and good that she was able to get a feel for where things were in relation to campus and her room (dining hall is very close - she’s very happy about that!) I think she’s ready to start soon but first has to say goodbye to all her besties - that’s going to be the hardest part!

Down to the wire. We leave Thurs for pre-orientation outdoor program. Packing has finally begun in earnest though D is now off seeing friends again. I cannot believe we will come home without her. Going to miss her more than words can say.

DS and DH left at 530 this am and DS was moved into his room and unpacked by 1230. Had a team meeting in the afternoon and a team outing to the Cleveland Indians game tonight. DH is at the airport waiting for his flight.

Surprisingly, lots of closet space and even a built in shoe rack in the closet. He did need a set of plastic bins to supplement the dresser though.

I head out Saturday for parent orientation and will drive our car back.

Checking back in after a long absence. Looks like many have landed at college in the past week. We leave this week for a pre-orientation service program. We have college “stuff” in piles and bins on all 3 floors of the house. I really don’t think my kiddo realizes that there is no way it will all fit into one dorm room! I’m thinking that the transition won’t be as bad as I thought it would be since the kid has been away most of the summer. I’ve had some time to get used to the absence. Our eldest is transferring to another University this fall and will be back in our area, so that will help with the loss. Good luck to everyone as your kids begin the next chapter!

1dilecon - I hope everything goes well at the cardiologist.

My H commented today that he didn’t spend as much money furnishing his first house as I’ve spent on one-half of a dorm room. He may be right…but then I’ve seen those first house furnishings. X_X

That’s good time from NoVA to the CLE area. I have to make the reverse trip next week to deliver S-2011 to school in DC. The trip is easy until I hit 270 and then the beltway. Fortunately, after the short segment on the beltway I can jump off at the GW Pkwy and get to the Key Bridge before hitting slow traffic again. My experience with the beltway is that it is bad at certain times of the day (usually everything from 430 AM to 300 AM - LOL).

Sorry to say but tonight’s Indians game was called at 11:40 PM for rain after 3 hours of delay. Its a shame he missed his first game but there should be more. Glad to hear that move-in went smoothly.

Hi all, I know I saw posting awhile back but could never retrace that far…looking for recommendations of a backpack with really good protection for the new laptop…anyone? Many thanks!!

tprcrd66, D bought a swiss backpack at officemax, it is sturdy but at the same very comfortable. It was $70 and on sale for $52. D used a swiss backpack for two years in highschool and still looked almost new.
