Parents of the HS Class of 2014

@Classof 2015 and @momreads - thinking of you and hoping all went well today during move-in.

@MImama, @akmom124, and @Overthe edge - thank you for your well wishes. Although both of D’s EKGs came back abnormal today, the cardiologist had D undergo an echogram and concluded it was not serious and cleared her to compete. :)

@dilecon - so happy to hear this news! I didn’t think it would be anything to worry about, but I’m sure until you all knew for sure you would worry.

@1dilecon That’s great news! Glad she can compete :slight_smile: What a relief.

@tpcrd66, here’s the one we got for S:

It does have a well padded sleeve for a laptop up to 15".

Thinking of you today, @momreads and @classof2015, as you launch your sons! @lab317 good luck tomorrow! We leave on Friday to drop of S for a Trek experience before he officially launches on the 22nd!

@dilecon - so happy to hear this news! I am glad it all worked out - what a relief!

Backpack- we always LLbean backpacks- S will be using the same one he used in HS - still in very good shape!

This is the actual Backpack my son has- <a href=“L.L.Bean: Page Not Available”>L.L.Bean: Page Not Available;

My son has the turbo transit but it has no laptop section/sleeve.

What about one of these? Jansport has a lifetime guarantee: <a href=“Laptop Backpacks You'll Love | JanSport”>Laptop Backpacks You'll Love | JanSport;

My older DS had a Jansport Odyssey and we got the same for my DS14, although they have made the shoulder straps less nice in the meantime. My older son used one though HS, wore it out, and got a new one from Jansport for college (free due to the lifetime warranty), which is going strong after 3 years. My younger DS had a Swiss backpack for HS and destroyed it within 3 years. The Odyssey will hold a 17" laptop plus a lot of other stuff. I think the disadvantage is it can hold “too much” and get pretty heavy, but my son loves it. For both of them we got much better deals than the retail price. Often you can get last year’s colors for cheaper, for example.

Wishing smooth sailing to all those launching the week/weekend!

Spent a wonderful evening last night with DD’s friends and the Mom’s - a last Mother/Daughter “back to school” party! Good food and drinks along with good friends. And activities :slight_smile: Mom’s had to write down two things on a piece of paper - what you’d like your daughter to do and not do next year. But now use the words “do” or “don’t”. Then they had to guess. The girls had to write down the most important thing they needed to pack. I know why these girls get along so well - 3 of them all referenced some sort of snack food! And they were pretty good at guessing which girl/mom write which items. Most of us will all be together again Friday night in a much bigger group and then another leaves Monday (one’s already gone!)

But I finally got DD to BBB and Target yesterday after her dentist appointment so we’re finally getting things checked off the list. Ordered a carpet for her room also so just a few other storage items to pick up. And my Amazon cart is stocked and ready for our tax free weekend on Saturday so I can get the last few things there!

I did not realize JanSport includes lifetime warranty, that’s really nice to know and we could have used the option to get a new one. D used a JanSport backpack in HS, lasted less than a year. JanSport definitely has better colors and options than Swiss ( I have to say I like the name better too). I have learnt so much from you all, thank you!

I am tearing up anytime I see a baby or a small kid, where did all the years go? I was going through her artwork over the years, D drew me working in front a computer in a lot of them. The captions include “Love you Mommy” or “Come Home soon”.

Hi everyone - we are packing up today & get on the plane to Philly tomorrow. Temple’s official move-in day is Monday Aug. 18. We’ll spend the weekend shopping for dorm stuff & having a day of playing hooky in NYC. D is pretty much just bringing clothes and electronics ( and a ukulele), so we’ll have to get everything else there.

I can’t believe this time has actually arrived! D is happy and excited - so far, so good!

Good luck to all those launching this week and weekend! It could be quiet on this board until you all return!

Good Luck with all the upcoming launches. We leave next Tuesday as DD is scheduled to move-in on Wednesday. We are having the older siblings and their kids over for a big cookout - end of summer - back to school party tomorrow night. It seems like we just cleaned up from the graduation party and that was in early June! My step-brother and family will also be joing us as their youngest is being delivered to a local university on Monday. They are enjoying the Rock Hall and Cedar Point this weekend. The real wake-up call is that our two oldest grandkids are starting school next week - one in kindergarten and other in 1st grade! Oh my, more college apps in just 11 and 12 years. Classes of 2026 and 2027!!! How time flies!!!

Hi Everyone, I haven’t spent much time on CC the past few months. With move in less than a week away I thought I would check in and see how we are all handling it. I can’t believe the time is here already. We finished buying everything on the list and are about half way done packing. It’s going to be interesting to see how we are going to get all this stuff in the car.
I think it finally hit me today that she is actually leaving. We have been so excited and happy for her throughout the whole process of applying, choosing and preparing for college. Today I was more sad and nervous. Hopefully next week I can manage to keep those feelings in check. I am hoping to be the strong one as I am pretty sure my Wife will be an emotional wreck.
We are trying to think of some good activities to keep us busy while she is gone. So far we came up with joining a gym and bowling.
Wishing you all a smooth move in !!

We leave today for Vermont! I thought I had it together but started crying over nothing last evening…I can not believe the day has arrived …I felt like the to-do-list was endless.-kept saying to myself that everything does not need to be done before he leaves but I keep finding myself wanting to get them done…I did manage to get a manicure and pedicure yesterday - it was a nice treat ( priorities !) … A few last minute things to do but I think we are in good shape - now to fit everything in the small SUV including our Labradoodle!

Good morning everyone! It looks like a busy weekend for many. I hope all the upcoming launches go well.

D is spending her last weekend here with BF and his family at their beach house. I’m a little sad, but she hasn’t had much down time this summer with her job and all, and a few days of R&R will do her good. I made dinner reservations for just D and I next week. I’m also making her favorite “last meal” on Thursday. @onlyonemom - I think I’ll follow your lead and book a mani & pedi for some added fun mother and daughter time.

I hope everything comes together next week. I feel like there is so much left to do before next Friday!

I did buy a very nice car top carrier the day before BarnardGirl’s move in date when I looked at the pile. Even with that, we put one seat down in the backseat so BarnardGirl and her brother were squished into 2 of the 3 seats in the back seat with my ex husband and I in the front seat. That was not the most pleasant of trips for any of us!

I am sitting here in my hotel in Nashville wondering how I got here. I am sad to say my 54 year old sister lost her battle with cancer on Tuesday. After spending the past month in the hospital with her and spending the last two days making her arrangements, I somehow managed to get her buried on Thursday morning and get on a plane with my S Thursday evening. It all seems so surreal I just haven’t had the time or energy to think about the fact that I’m dropping him off tomorrow and going home without him. I’m not sure when it will all hit me but I’m sure it will eventually.

For now, we will go out shopping for school supplies and a few other things, then take in a little bit of the city and the campus. Trying not to think about the fact that it’s our last day together before dropping him off.

Oh jrmama496, so sorry!
