@Hoosier96 - not much right now. My son is not an honors college level student. It’s been quiet lately, actually. But every day in the mail is something from 10+ colleges. Once you are done picking schools, those start filling your recycling bin. What is USF (St. Francis? South Florida?)

University of South Florida : gerontology program. At BGSU she would be in gerontology with long term administration program.

How long does it typically take to get back ACT with writing results? The first ACT results taken on October 25th are to be released tomorrow, but it says that the ones with Writing take several weeks longer. Just trying to get an idea of what the typical wait is. We’re really not expecting great results at all…but holding out hope he guessed really well…ha!

Usually the composite scores are released in the first week and the writing score comes a couple weeks later.

Quite a list I know, we had many visits, so a lot of free applications.
He is very anxious for replies.

I loved this thread topic that someone else created. ( I hope you don’t mind that I copied.)

We’re all trying to guess what schools our B students can get into. If you’re willing to share the schools that your son or daughter got into and what their GPA and tests scores were that would help the rest of us out a lot.

Stephen that is quite a list, for sure. I’d be very curious as to which ones accept your child. We almost applied to American - then I thought better of it given the tuition was 2-3 times the other schools we looked at.

We applied to just one on your list Stephen. That is our last one; to let us know if D was admitted…Purdue. D list comprises of schools that had her intended major.
We still are in the SLOW working mode on the Candian apps. I will be SO SO glad when she hits the button for those.
Have I said it enough that I get to do this All over again. S '16 just met with his CG vey…

Well, we got his ACT back and it was very bad…worse than the SAT. So, he will be denied. IU wanted another round of tests by 12/31 and his 7th semester grades. I really don’t want to send these in, it will make him look even worse. Do you think we can just send in his 7th semester grades and say that he just didn’t want to take anymore standardized tests and his SAT scores are all that will be sent in or what?

Sorry to hear that @conmama - if his tests weren’t sent to the school my guess is you can do what you describe. They only look at your best scores, so getting a worse score doesn’t hurt you.

My son that is going to BGSU needed a 26 on the ACT to get the extra tuition discount. He had gotten 25/24/25 on his first three attempts. This time 27!!! So pumped! This comes on the heels of me missing out on a new job I was really hoping to get - so I needed this good news. Yin and yang. Will save us $4,000.

Well, that’s true. I suppose that sending them in will at least show that we are complying with what they are asking for. If they were comparable scores, then it wouldn’t hurt him because they do just look at the best. But they will see the dismal ACT…and it will reflect on him. One of his choices is to go to IUPUI and then transfer. I just don’t want this bad score to be in his official file when/if the time comes that he wants to transfer in. I think not turning them in, but requesting the semester transcript be turned in will be enough.

@conmama so sorry about the ACT…but maybe it’s a good thing maybe he needs some smaller classes before heading down to IU? I know it’s his dream but maybe the dream would be better if he’s able to complete his degree?

To be honest with you I know more kids transferring out then in…same story…classes to big; little guidance and a lot of distractions. This is happening even with students who were very focus in high school.

So just maybe this is his lucky star that allows him to graduate has a HOOSIER in 2019

@sstephen2015,
I’m on my phone so I can’t cut and pasted the link here. But there is a great thread titled “where did your 3.0-3.3 child get
In” where parents list the acceptances of their kid who is in that range. So search cc for this.

@conmama: You know I have a bias. So please take my comments with a grain of salt. IUPUI is a good school with a growing reputation. There are a lot of kids there now that had choices and chose IUPUI, like your son.

He can get good grades and head to IU next year.

Maybe take another look at Ball State. My son really like it.

Does your son know what he wants to do?

@goodkidsdad…actually, i would prefer he go to IUPUI. I think he would do MUCH better that first year here with our support at home. I know he would. He has ADHD inattentive and school doesn’t come particurly easy for him. He works Really Really hard for decent grades, more so than his peers. I will talk to him about these things if he gets when we find out more about everything else. He really doesn’t know what he wants to do . He took him to a career counselor where he answered all sort of questions, including Myer-Briggs like tests. Said he should go into more of a social occupation…had down social work, special ed elementary, elementary. He absolutely doesn’t want to be “the boss” of anyone his own age. We are still trying to help him find things he would be interested in.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been here. Good news and not-so-good news.

Good news: D was admitted to Eckerd College and got $19,000 merit aid (!) This puts Eckerd into play.

Not-so-good news: Her first quarter grades were meh. It evened out to straight Bs (1 A, 1 C, the rest Bs). Because all her classes are AP or AP-level, her weighted GPA is 4.0 but her unweighted GPA is 3.0. Normally, I wouldn’t be worried or concerned about the C (78) in AP Lit. It’s just a quarter grade, it’s a pretty high C, she can still pull out a B for the semester grade. But who did D have write her LOR to colleges? The AP Lit teacher (!).

So far six applications are in. Three more to go but they aren’t due until January 15th. She’s hoping (I’m hoping) she works on them during Thanksgiving break when she has the entire week off.

YEAH!!! @slackermommd your D will surprise you until the end…that’s what makes parenting a roller coaster ride to remember and one that you NEVER want to get off!!!
D is 9for9 in admission decisions most with decent money. Her heart though continues to be at USF. So maybe we will meet at the airport in Tampa one day. Won’t that make our kiddos feel embarrassed

That’s Great @slackermommd! What a nice bit of news before Thanksgiving. Her grades don’t seem bad, is there some reason to worry that they might take away the merit aid? If not, I think she’s fine!

I am late to this party, but I have a DD graduating in 2015. Grades can be all over the mark, though she does keep an UW GPA of about 3.4 and a W GPA of about a 3.8 in mixed honors and non-honors. Applied ED and also to all safeties, including UVM, Goucher, and University of San Diego.

Congrats to the ones with good news! Hang in there to the ones waiting.

Welcome peppermintlounge!

S has submitted 5 apps and 2 have resulted with acceptances-KU and Univ. of Arkansas. The three schools to hear back from are two reaches and one match.

@SStephen- Good list! My S applied to Miami as well. I am interested in knowing more about Univ of Dayton. Have you or anyone else visited the campus? What it is like- the student life, campus feel and the surrounding areas, etc. Please chime in…
