Last night was bitter sweet in this home…D and her dad have had since the age of 3 a daddy / daughter date to the Nutcracker. She even remarked that she may not be home next year for this… :frowning: . Husband eyes were a little misty. When they left and I had a small tear in my eye.
Winter formal this weekend; dead week next week then finals…where did the time go?

@W2behome - we had the same situation with scrambling for an extra rec letter for selective scholarships - to IU Bloomington in fact. He was accepted a while ago and had plenty of time for his Dec 1st selective scholarship deadline (obviously this must be different for different students? - maybe depending on the school they apply to?). He kept saying he had everything he needed and just needed to finalize an essay but I took a look at the requirements and realized he needed TWO rec letters ( one academic and one personal). He had one of his poor teachers working over the Thanksgiving holiday to rush him the letter - definitely owe that teacher a very nice Christmas gift this year (he as done a lot for my son other than this letter).

We had scheduled 2 auditions and I booked a hotel, and now we have to reschedule one of the auditions because my daughter got the lead role in her school musical! She can’t miss that rehearsal, because they are blocking one of the big numbers. I’m so happy for her!

Let’s start the day with a little alt-rock to wait for early decisions by. Here’s hoping your kids rope what they’re chasing.

D1 is finally submitting another application, this one is to VT including application for University Honors and Freshman Recruitment Scholarships (the scholarships deadline is extended to Dec. 8.) She’s a lock (safety) for admission, but we cannot predict scholarship. She has visited and likes the school, and we could afford it (resident) even without a scholarship.

@hoosier96 Had a similar experience driving to relatives this Thanksgiving. Out of the blue, D asked what she will be doing next year for Thanksgiving (she plans to go to college >12 hr drive from home). It’s all hitting home slowly but surely for parents and offspring, isn’t it?

If D goes to college in an interesting place, we may move Thanksgiving to her town. Especially if it’s in a warm weather place.

We’ve told D2 that we’ll do the same thing with her at UKy as we did with D1 at UMinn. We’ll get her an airline ticket to get home for Thanksgiving her freshman year, but after that she’ll need to make arrangements to celebrate locally. We love having the family together for Thanksgiving, but logistically/financially it just isn’t feasible for them to come home for such a short period. It was a lot harder for Mrs Wolverine and I to “pull that Band-Aid” off than it was for D1. :((

Wow @Wolverine86‌ , very practical advice!

DC#1 is at a college that is about 20 minutes away from an airport served by Southwest Airlines. We didn’t plan that, but it has been a really nice feature for holiday travel. He can fly home cheaper than we can drive down to get him, once you factor in a night in a hotel.

That is wonderful @kidsrexpensive! It must have felt great to see his relief and happeniess. Hope he likes snow.

Awww, @Hoosier96. It’s great you can treasure those moments. It sounds like a very sweet tradition.

Congrats @Irishmomof2!! What a wonderful way to end her high school musical career. My oldest D was a theater kid and boy was watching that last show a bittersweet moment. My younger D is an athlete and that last game is going to be a doozy.

We spent Thanksgiving in Phoenix last year because DD13 had to stay for band. It was really nice to spend a warm weekend in November even though it isn’t all that cold here at home. She came home this year because Phoenix is a Southwest hub and the flights home are pretty cheap. Next year, we will probably be wherever DS goes, again due to band, but it definitely won’t be nearly as warm as Phoenix!

DS got accepted today to the school he added at the last minute (rolling admissions). Now he is all clear to do the Honors application over Christmas break :-bd

Congrats @kidsrexpensive! Love to see those big smiles!!

Awww, @hoosier96, Those last events are hard, and do seem to catch us by surprise. :-(

Congratulations to @irishmomof2 s D for the lead in the musical!

Thanks so much shoboemom and leftofpisa! It is a relief… of course, we haven’t heard the final on financials yet - so fingers crossed!

Stressing out from afar for my D who is at a scholarship interview weekend. Wish I could be there to cheer her on… though I know probably better I am not :-p.

I can’t post any details right now, but for those who pray, I ask you to join me today. Someone very close to my girls is gone and we’re all in shock and deeply saddened.

I’m so sorry @W2BeHome. Prayers and warm thoughts headed your way.

Prayers @W2BeHome to you and your girls.

@W2Behome, So sorry to hear. Thinking of you and praying for you and your girls.
