@BunHeadMom: Congratulations on all the good news! The criteria read and/or. So she does meet the criteria for the minority status, but I would guess that meeting more of the criteria would be better.

Lots of exciting news around here! DS hears from his EA school on Thursday.

Lots of talk here yesterday about the alumni interview S has today. at 1:00 pm. All of the planning of this one was by text. So at 10:10 I hear the shower… way too early for a 1pm appt. Then at 10:20 he gets out of the shower and says what time should I leave? I say 12:15… you see where this is going don’t you??? FOR MY 11AM INTERVIEW I SHOULD LEAVE AT 12:15??? I TOLD YOU IT WAS AT 11!!!. So he raced out the door at 10:30. He will make it - 30 minutes is plenty of time to get there. But why oh why do we have such a lack of communication?

@BunHeadMom, it sounds like “and/or” for the status, and my opinion is that they can pick and choose anyone who fits the criteria “Record of academic achievement in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum and evidence of leadership and involvement”. I’m sure they would rather have kids who meet all three criteria in the and/or section, but there are likely some like your child who only meet one of the criteria, but do meet the academic part.

It probably is listed that way to give the college some flexibility with who they offer awards to. I know where I teach, many kids are not college prep so they’d be out of the running for an award like that, regardless of other status.

@BunHeadMom, Yep, it looks like that and/or makes the criteria much more flexible. Oh and CONGRATULATIONS!!!

@wrights1994, We have similar issues here sometimes. A couple months ago D found out about a school (chorus) trip, and told me the dates. It worked out perfectly to let us go and add on an easy college visit. I made the plans and reservations. She had given me the wrong date! 8-| Sometimes I wonder what she will do without her parental secretary. ;-)

DS also heard from Beloit and was admitted with merit. @BunHeadMom Congrats to your daughter. DS was also admitted to College of Wooster with merit, how would you compare the 2 schools. He has visited Wooster, but not Beloit. He will probably go to an admit student’s weekend at Beloit.

@singermom4 We are in Maryland, so both schools are far and getting to and from them is definitely going to be an issue. Wooster is drivable at 6 hrs, Beloit would involve a flight to Chicago and then an hour plus bus ride to Beloit.

Anyone else facing a deadline tomorrow? D is working on hers. She seems to start these essays with a reasonable amount of time left, but then hates them and starts from scratch with little time left. She has two to do for this one.

@shoboemom - my d’s deadlines tomorrow are mostly scholarship apps. I don’t know how she’s going to finish them. I have to call a couple of them tomorrow to try to sort out some of the differences in the reporting/recommendations since we homeschool. I should have done it last week, but it just wasn’t going to happen in the midst of everything we had going on.

@shoboemom The deadlines here are imposed by Mom because D will be so busy the next couple weeks. I was pushing for completed applications by the end of today, but that is looking less and less likely. I think she sees the essays as being very important and is stuck in analysis paralysis. Just write something to get started, it can be revised, just write something, just write something, just write something…

Quick question - collegeboard sent hubby a $16 refund on paypal (this would correspond to my D’s Octobrr subject test I think) We are scratching our heads why? D sent an email q to collegeboard.
Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

Sorry for the ask & run – been sick / busy / frazzled here.
