^^I’d guess that many EA/ED essays are targeted at a particular school. And you’d want a more generalized essay when you’re casting a wider net.

The better way to approach the essay seems to be to write on one topic that is not particular to the school for the main essay and for the “anything else we should know” be particular if the school is a first or second choice and does not have a why school essay - add why there.

Wheee!!! S is in ED at Ithaca College for double bass performance!!! ONE and DONE!!!

WAY TO GO @momsings! That’s fantastic! Congratulations to your S!

Wonderful news @momsings!

You get to revise the CA essay 2 times after you submit it the first time. You can not submit a different CA essay for each school unless you are only applying to 3 schools.

I’m not sure why they limit it but frankly, since my D would keep tweaking forever, it’s good that at some point she just has to stop and live with it.

Congrats @momsings ! Great music program. That is a wonderful accomplishment.

We’re making it official—D got into University of Rochester with enough merit aid to make it financially feasible. I am now the proud mom of a Yellowjacket. :)

Congratulations @momsings! Definitely something to sing about! :-"
Congratulations @EllieMom! So exciting to know what the plan will be for next year! <:-P

@EllieMom Congrats on University of Rochester, it has always been one of my favorite schools. Unfortunately, my kids have yet to agree with me. Enjoy Dinosaur BBQ when you visit and if you have younger kids don’t miss the Museum of play.

Congrats @EllieMom!

Congrats @EllieMom!! I’m another one like @Mom24boys with a soft spot for U of R but neither of my girls applied. It was on D15’s list for the longest time but recently fell off. Oh well. I think she will get an excellent education. And learn to love snow. ;-)

I want to wish the parents of 2015 Blessed Holiday and may the New Year bring joy and prosperity to you and your family.
I am my way out the door with S’16 to have 4 wisdom teeth out. So the next few days will be crazy around here. It’s official I will be on the roller coaster for a bit longer; I just registered him for the January SAT.

@Hoosier96, Sharing in your wish for joy and prosperity to everyone here.
I hope things go smoothly with your S’s wisdom teeth. We are still putting that off for D. I keep forgetting all about it until someone goes and mentions it…lol :-"
Oh boy…getting in line to ‘go again’ on the roller coaster!

Wishing for a Blessed Holiday for all of you and Happy New Year!! Enjoy this time off with our kids!

Consumer Reports says that January is the time to get deals on bedding, linens and winter clothes…so it sounds like a good time to watch for deals for college for next year. Let us know what you find!
Almost all of the schools on D’s list have XLTwin beds. I hope to find an amazing deal on a mattress topper and sheets…maybe the comforter if she finds one she likes.

@shoboemom - I’m going to be online the day after xmas looking for some good deals on that stuff. And probably will still be looking into the new year. But with a California kid going to college in the Northeast, we’ll be looking for cold-weather gear along with all the usual dorm supplies. Let me know if you find a good deal, and I’ll do the same! Hoping to pick stuff up on clearance, although if I get it now I’ll have to pay to ship it to the college in August… If I wait, I can get stuff there, but I’m sure it won’t be on sale…

@shoboemom and @MamaBear16 - I will also be looking for deals on winter gear as soon as the holidays are over. DS refuses to wear a winter coat which you can sort of get away with in Maryland, but not in the colder states he has applied to.

He is also going on a graduation trip to England and Scotland this summer with 3 days of hiking in the Lake District. I assume he will need hiking boots and some sort rain gear, but not sure what to purchase.

Merry Christmas and Happy last Day of Hanukkah and Happy Holidays to All and to all completed essays.

@MamaBear16, I’ve thought about the same thing…get it on sale and pay to ship, or wait and pay full price on-site (or with free shipping). It would help to know where she was headed…with the winter clothes issue too! I doubt I will be able to resist the deals though.
I thought I got a great deal on a mattress topper this week, but now realize it won’t work. L-) LOL It is a twin, not an XL, but I figured, who cares if the bottom 4 inches of the bed are padded? It wasn’t until I got it home that I realized that if goes on like a mattress pad, so it has to fit the mattress. I was imagining it just laying on top of the mattress…so back it goes.
I want to get some regular sheets and then a set of flannel ones to send to her in the winter. Those are comfy even if she stays in Florida. I’m really excited about sending care packages! :x

@Mom24boys, LOL, Maryland (well, DC) is one of the locations on D’s college list…and that I am looking for winter things for…there and Boston …Brrrr!

@shoboemom DS1 is at school in Boston, I insisted he bring a winter coat, he very, very rarely wears it. He does however wear the Northeastern scarf with his hoody.

Last February I visited S at his college. We arranged to meet at night at a restaurant about 15 minutes away from where he lived. It was SNOWING out. He showed up in a T-shirt and windbreaker. . . .

Then there was the time he flew home for Thanksgiving and walked off the plane in shorts. I was waiting for him wearing a heavy down jacket.
