Parents of the HS Class of 2015

Hi all! I applied for the FAFSA pins about 4 days ago. How long did it take for others to get anything back via email on this? I have not even gotten a confirmation that the enrollment info was received. Thanks!!

wrights - log back in and you’ll see if it lets you edit or not. Submitted and processed are different.

Just did the CSS for all of the schools that are due before March 1st. S keeps getting emails reminding him and most were due 2/1 anyway so my taxes will most likely not be complete. There was some supplemental questions for some schools and they asked about our cars, years, make, model, bought or leased and for how much and if any of them were the students… we have 2 cars for 3 drivers so though he drives one of them it is in my name and I pay for it so I didn’t say it was his… anyone else had this question?

Happy New Yea to all! FAFSA submitted and confirmation received. Nice of them to “verify” that we should expect no money…

My D’s semester ends 3rd week in January, which is also midterm time. School ends first week in June for seniors with graduation the 2nd week. All seniors spend the last 8 weeks doing internships. The school I teach at has the same schedule including internships. She will begin interviewing for positions in early February. Students who have to complete AP’s take 4 hours off for each AP class until course completed. So for the first 2 weeks of internship she does 22 hours instead of 30.

@kidsrexpensive - We rec’d ours within a day or two - be sure to check Spam folders as well as any other oddball “tabs” or folders in your email account. Sometimes they get sent elsewhere besides your main mail location - ours was put into our “Updates” tab on our gmail acct.

Thank you @ILMom13579! Do you happen to know if the email had “FAFSA” in the title? I still am coming up empty. Might call on Monday if no results. Thanks again!

@kidsrexpensive‌ - my PIN email came from “Federal Student Aid”, with the subject heading “Important: Your PIN Is Now Active”.

FAFSA is not mentioned anywhere in the email.

Just to manage expectations;

A full 80%+ of Pell Grant money (what’s determined by the FAFSA) is distributed to those at less than 150% of the FPL ($23,850 x 150% = $35,775 for a family of 4). And on a sliding scale up to a max distribution of around $5700/year. The closer you are to the top limit, the less you’ll get.

If you exceed this income level, your aid will come in the form of Federal Subsidized loans capped at $3500 freshman year.

Obviously, I need to have my head examined.
This morning, I’m poking around my kid’s tippy top, OMG, if I get in, the world will end and I’ll be the happiest camper in the entire world school application checklist website and see that his SAT scores aren’t registered yet. Now, he told me this yesterday AND the day before and I thought nothing of it, assumed that it would eventually catch up. Today, for some reason, I decided to check college board. Me, the keeper of the credit card somehow FORGOT to send his SAT scores to his top choice. They had a drop dead deadline of tomorrow. Even with rush scoring (and an extra 30 bucks to push a button!) they earliest it will arrive is 2 business days from today. If I’m the reason that my kid doesn’t get in, my heart will be completely broken. Ouch. How could I mess up so badly? SAT’s were sent to every school on his list, even his maybes, just in case, and I missed his tippy top school.

Okay, rant over.
Yoga classes will resume this Friday night on the Lido deck.
Happy New Year everyone!

Mugglemom I feel for you- but I suspect there would be some wiggle room and knowing my personality ( not saying this is the right thing to do LOL) I would call and explain.

So some of D’s schools who don’t tell her for at least a few weeks have updated their portals with emergency contact notification - asking if they can add her cell phone number to their list so they can text her in the event of an emergency; giving her permission to add guests to her portals ( ie parents) so they can pay the bill and view meal plans etc. Do they automatically update all applicants or is this some kind of clue or perhaps a head game of sorts? :expressionless: I just don’t know if schools are this revealing before decisions come, or do they just not think that kids and/or parents would snoop? This stuff is not staring you in the face right away- D clicked on links that were suddenly available that some people may not notice right away or even care to look at.

Thank you @SlackerMomMD!! Still nothing in my trash or spam - I think I applied on 12/31, so with the holiday, I will wait until Monday/Tues am before I freak out.

@MuggleMom, I bet they will give you some wiggle room on the score receipt! I would do that rush option today and maybe send an email to the admissions officer for your area explaining just as you did above - I think they will respond well to your acknowledgement and humor. I know I would if I was the admissions officer :->!

@kidsrexpensive, twogirls, Thanks. I did send a ‘sorry, don’t know how that happened’ email to the admissions office. . I skipped the humor because I was unsure how it was going to come across. Of course, looking back now I think my kid should have sent the email, but it was 6am and I wasn’t exactly thinking clearly. We figured we’ll let Monday go by with all the craziness and call Tuesday if College Board sent it just to make sure it was received. I’m honestly heartbroken, but there really isn’t anything I can do now.

@mugglemom - I was just about to post with the same panic. Just realized yesterday that we hadn’t sent scores to two which were added after original list was created. One has rolling after RD so hopefully that one is okay but hopefully didn’t just waste money on the app to his one reach school which was due Jan 1. I have heard the ‘express’ service is a scam and sometimes takes longer so I just ordered the ACT reports regular delivery. While I am also keeper of the credit card i felt it was ds’ responsibility to make a checklist for each school and ensure everything was sent. They will need to handle a lot more on their own next year so I don’t think this is an unfair expectation. DS will contact the Jan 1 school (which is also missing the transcript) on Monday.

Lots of hugs @MuggleMom. It’s scary isn’t it? Thursday night after the apps were in I couldn’t sleep, tossed and turned all night with stress dreams and waking up afraid something had gone awry. There are so many moving parts! I too suspect there is some built-in flexibility and it will be fine.

@singermom4 According to SAT, the rush delivery will be there within 2 business days. It used to be mailed rush delivery, but now do electronic. I must have said at least 3 times for him to check my work, but apparently mom is infallible until she messes up. Nothing we can do now but wait.

Thanks @leftofpisa! Keeping fingers crossed.

@mugglemom When my kid was applying ED, we assumed wrongly that he had requested his SATs be sent in when he sat for the exam. It wasn’t after the deadline, but a couple of days before. Contacted admissions and they said to send in a screen shot of the scores from the College Board web page. Hard to fake. Neurotic me followed up with the formal CB report, but the school said just the screenshot was acceptable.

So consider the screenshot, and followup with the rush delivery.

Since the Common App will list the relevant scores, you have already supplied the info they need, and the formal report will be used as verification.

Happy to report that my d has completed all of her applications. I’ve booked our flights for the first two auditions. We’re still waiting for confirmation on three of the audition dates she requested. I don’t think we have a free weekend until mid-March between auditions and other events.

We have one school that requests that the FAFSA be done by Jan. 15, so now h gets to enter the college picture. I leave that part (as well as the taxes) completely to him. This will be the first year we have two children planning to be enrolled in the fall. It will be interesting to see what that does to our EFC.

^your EFC will be the same in total (assuming all else being equal), but divided between the 2 kids.

^^Sounds good to me!
