Parents of the HS Class of 2015

Good luck to all our kids during the next two weeks of AP testing. Yet another milestone - I won’t miss this one.

Ditto @Mom24boys

DS was only planning to take the AP Calc BC test cause it’s the only one of his four APs that he might get credit for at SS-LAC. But his AP Lit teacher begged him to take it to help her stats. I’m glad to help her out, but $91 on top of our first tuition payment - WAH!

I’m trying not obsess over AP scores this year. D has signed up for five AP tests, with prom weekend (including a visit from out-of-town boyfriend) in between. Add in a moderate case of senioritis. Somehow, I’m not sure her scores will be up to what they have been in the past.

@PhxRising, insert French teacher for Lit teacher and that is exactly the scenario with my D. She needs a 5 for credit, and I don’t see a whole lotta studying going on here. Good luck to all of the kids in the home stretch!

My younger sister is self-studying for the AP Stats exam. She only started in February because of the cancellation of the Calc III class, but we’re hoping for the best. She’s good at taking math tests. She needs a 4 or 5 for it to count at the university. I’ve heard that you only need to get 63% or 70% for a 5? Is that true?

My D has IB exams for the next two weeks, I had a house full here studying today. Afraid I have senioritis, I could care less about her IB diploma at this point, (bad I know) but beside applying to colleges, when will that ever matter?

Catching up on way too many posts to count. #:-S Congrats to all on finalizing their DC’s decisions!! It’s great to see such a wide-ranging and varied list. Just goes to show that there absolutely isn’t any “one size fits all” school out there, and that it’s well worth the time and effort to do the legwork and check out as many schools as possible. :-bd

@SomeOldGuy … All those “subtle” hints but no official “add” to the list yet? C’mon…it’s only a true 4-letter word to a few others on the list. :))

D2 has her first AP test tomorrow morning (AP Chem) and the other 2 next week. 10 more regular school days (including AP testing days) and 2 final exam days and she and S will be done until graduation!!

Mrs. Wolverine and I are heading out a week from Friday to head to Minneapolis for D1’s graduation from UMinn. For anyone wondering whether a large state school can provide the same “educational opportunities” as the LACs etc, D1 will be inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, graduate summa cum laude, and was 7 for 7 on grad school acceptances. It makes me want to go find every person who asked “why is she “settling” for UMinn” and smack the crap out of them…er, I mean show them the error of their prejudices against state public schools. [-X

Good Luck to all on AP testing, and happy grad planning to all!!

One of my older sisters (not the NMS) is graduating from college this weekend, and we’re going out to dinner to celebrate that, my graduation, and my sister’s graduation from “middle school.”

Congrats Wolverine86!! If I remember correctly, your daughter wants genetic counseling? 7/7 is very impressive! My D is also interested in genetic counseling.

Count us in as having AP chem tomorrow. D says she is ready and I believe her.
Congrats albert69! =D>

Thanks @twogirls … we were pretty excited for her. As with her undergrad, she passed on the “bigger name” program and chose the program that her gut told her she liked the best. She’ll be doing her grad school at the University of Cincinnati, and will be half the distance from home that she’s been for undergrad…and only an hour from D2 at UKy!! Mrs Wolverine and I can pop down on the occasional weekend and see both in one fell swoop. Pretty good deal all around for the Wolverine den!! :-bd

That sounds wonderful, @Wolverine86 ! For a time, there was a possibility that DS would go to a school in a location right next door to one of DD’s top graduate school aspirations, but he decided to go elsewhere. No guarantee DD would go there for grad school either but it was nice to dream for a few days.

DS is done with HS classes. Has band rehearsal and 3 finals Monday and Tuesday, and then just 2 AP tests before the Honors Assembly and Graduation on the 12th. The final band concert Tuesday and the band banquet Friday are going to be tear jerkers. Because I am a band booster officer, I know DS is getting an award but can’t say anything! I am immensely proud though of how hard he has worked. So glad to see he will get some recognition.

Congrats again to your daughter! I remember when you talked about her and all I could say was “wow.” . I will keep the U of Cincinatti tucked away for future reference.
D needs to have a roommate by the 15th otherwise they fill out the paper to go " random." Talks are underway as we speak so hopefully it will be a done deal soon. She has to take an online Spanish placement test in July. Her schedule is not made at orientation. She meets with an advisor, chooses classes, and is given a 48 hour time slot once she comes home where she goes online and picks her classes. Hopefully this all goes smoothly…
:-SS
Good luck to all test takers tomorrow!

@twogirls - wrestler is ending up in the random pool now. And not thrilled about it. Of course both he and the other kid waited until the last hour of the last day to try to contact housing.

The other kid wanted to get a triple. I am not a fan of triples. It is must human nature than two kids will get along better and one will be the third wheel. Here’s hoping for the best!

@wolverine86 - there is absolutely nothing second rate about our top public universities! Honestly, U MN has so much to offer and an outstanding reputation to boot! Congrats to all in the Wolverine family!!

Wrestlersmom the girl D is chatting with takes awhile to respond. Neither one spends much time on FB so the talks are going slowly. The girl mentioned that they need to choose a roommate by the 15th, so D decided it was a good time to slip in " do you want to skype and possibly be roommates"? I am looking forward to the skyping and a chance to say hello.

The scary thing is that D does not think she is a slob. Yikes. Her room is covered with clothes all over the floor, water bottles, wet towels, etc. Amazing how her school work is organized yet her room is a disaster. I guess something’s gotta give!

My daughter starts with AP Psych tomorrow; AP Bio and AP Music Theory is next week. Her Psych teacher had a study session TODAY for the kids. It wasn’t mandatory, and some kids had to work, but most kids did show up.

I am a senior in college right now, with 2 weeks left, and I have senioritis. I have actually calculated how much of my remaining work I could skip and still pass, but I can’t really do that, it’s just a sweet dream to contemplate over the next two weeks.

@Wolverine86 - Thanks for the comments on UMinn since my S is heading there in the fall! We have no doubt it’s an excellent school but have been surprised by the attitude and comments on CC. Friends have been supportive of the choice but I’m getting a little tired of the ‘cold’ comments. Chicago ain’t no garden spot in winter either! Best of luck to your D as she moves onward!

@twogirls - I don’t think my S has any idea how messy he is either. He’s feeling very nervous about getting a ‘nightmare’ roommate - had hoped to room with someone he knows but although he has a close friend attending UMinn, that friend wants to start fresh (no problem with that). So he is looking at a single in Centennial - @Wolverine86 - any comments regarding Centennial, singles, and the @Home LLC?

@Wrestlersmom - There are also triples in that building I actually think that could be better - what are the chances you don’t like both your roommates? Also there is more space - or seems to be - in the triples.

Edited too late to add:

3 AP tests for S this week (Psych, Calc BC, Eng. Lit) and 3 AP tests next week (gov, macro, micro).

Graduation on May 31st. May have to write Calc BC final.

@twogirls Everytime I walk into and out of my daughter’s room, tripping over various items, I wonder if there is a roommate who will put up with her. I agree - it’s amazing that the work can be so incredibly organized, she runs her life like a Swiss watch. But, boy does it fall apart in her room. Yikes.

There’s hope for all of the messy ones…once my DD left for school, and had her own space, she suddenly cared more about keeping it picked up. Her room at home was always quite a mess…so miracles DO happen folks!
