@Felicita – D had a very hard time deciding between Brown and Yale. In the end, she chose Brown because the students (particularly in her intended major) were just SO much happier. Her big sister is at Yale (and in her intended major), so she probably had too much information, but in the end I think she chose the school with the right fit for her. I hope your S has done the same! Each one of these kids is different, and sometimes the “obvious” choice is simply the wrong one!
@HeliMom74 Lush is my absolute favorite. Great gift!
Wrestler and DH - bless their hearts - did a good job this year! At least they used the Chico’s coupon I keft on the counter. It is pretty hard for them to go wrong in that store – especially if they go see the lady who has designated herself my “personal shopper.”
Brunch was great. We beat the mad rush.
I hope everyone has a great day!
D is busy doing her university’s foreign language placement test online (due tomorrow, of course) and then has three major school projects due this week before the end of classes. I have graciously offered to take on the task of making our traditional strawberry trifle ( she bought the ingredients) while she works.
She got me a beautiful rose and card and wrote a lovely Facebook post with a photo of me and her when she was 3. Next Mother’s Day I may be moving her out of the dorm as finals will have just ended.
Happy Mother’s Day to everyone! We are driving home from DD3’s college graduation so not much in the way of Mother’s Day but they did buy me my favorite Frappucino along the way.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful Mother’s Day! I’ve been pretty good at keeping up with this thread–reading if not contributing–but I’m crying uncle–so many post and D graduates this Saturday!
However, I was at the annual graduation party for graduate students last night and catching up with faculty and spouses. When one woman mentioned that her son is working on a new gap program at his institute, my ears perked up. I asked her for the URL (http://www.hminet.org), because I know some of you are planning a gap year. I thought I’d post it in case it’s someone’s cup of tea.
Big Mother’s Day present here - we finally finished shopping for dorm stuff! (My D graduates in 2 weeks, then leaves 3 days later for Summer courses). Dorm shopping was fun until we got down to the boring stuff (like a basic tool set, medicine kit, adhesive wall hooks, etc). Glad to be done!
Graduation here is June 5. Because I work for the high school, I get to hand my daughter her diploma. Oh the tears are going to flow!
Good morning, everyone! We’re still slogging through AP season here, but prom is on Friday so we will start the day with a set from David Bowie. The first two are self-explanatory; the last encapsulates my reaction to most recent CC threads.

Our graduation is 6/22…also hours after the last day of school.
Graduation is Sunday. 7 days. The last day of school for seniors is Wednesday.
AP Bio today - the teacher is taking the class out to IHOP for pancakes afterwards.
AP Music Theory on Wednesday, and then she will probably give in to the looming senioritis.
This is my last week of classes, and it may be the busiest week I’ve ever had in my life, between evening activities, rehearsals, gigs, meetings at work, etc.
S figured out that he does not need to take the AP Lang/Comp exam – he has already placed out of the necessary English classes at his university based on his AP Lit score from last year. The teacher recommended that they check to see whether they need the AP credit or not and then not waste their time on the exam if they don’t need to take it. He is extra stoked because the exam is on his birthday and now he won’t be taking it! So he just has to hand in one more paper (one was due this morning) and one project and he is done. His last full day on campus was Friday. Weird. I did survive the senior brunch yesterday with only four tissues.
Today is the last eval for S’ AP Calc BC class. He is just under a C- grade right now. If he does not pull it up, he will need to write the final of which I am not hopeful about. Please cross your fingers for S so we can stop having this hanging over our heads and be able to enjoy his college admission.
@singermom4 Fingers and toes crossed for your S!!
@singermom4 Thinking brilliant thoughts for your S!
AP Physics horror show here today!!! The proctor screwed up the time keeping and wrote down the wrong end time on the board. Wrestler said he guessed at about 13 questions because he thought he was out of time. In reality, there were ten minutes left – only he did not have a mark next to the ones that were guesses so he couldn’t go back on all of them. There really is no excuse for the proctors to mess this up.
AP bio was “super easy”. Two down, one to go here. AP Macro on Thursday. Our district does not offer AP Macro right now so he did self study and is one of only 4 kids in the district taking it.
Proctors are pretty low on the food web.
As for not taking an AP exam, at $91 each, my son will take it if we paid for it.
Yeah - what is it with proctors and their screw-ups? S also had a time issue on an ACT one time thanks to a clued out proctor. Fortunately he got to the point of knowing he did not need to look at the clock to complete it so he ignored the proctor’s times.
