AP tests are being given in a small lunchroom with a courtyard outside of a full wall of windows. So during the tests, there are kids in the courtyard talking, eating, and break dancing with boom boxes, along with teachers who decided to take their entire classes outside in the beautiful weather. Did anyone in the administration even think this through at all?
D made it through IB Physics (paper 3 was today). On to HL Math Paper 1 tomorrow. Half her exams down, 8 more to go.
My daughter said AP Bio was easier than she expected, although she was annoyed because there were 4 things that the teacher emphasized would be on the exam but it turns out they weren’t.
S back from school and said the Calc BC assessment wasn’t too bad. Also, he said some kids didn’t study so he thinks he will do okay on the curve. The calc teacher does not usually grade very quickly so we will have to sit and fret a bit longer. Correction - i will sit and fret - S seems very relaxed about it all and very annoyed that I keep asking about it! I mean it’s just his admission into the university on the line here - no big deal - right?
D was surprisingly “okay” with the APBio exam, considering she ended up spending time enjoying prom weekend instead of studying like she had planned. Why, oh why, does the school administration think it’s a good idea to schedule prom for the weekend between the two weeks of AP exams?
AP Spanish Lit here tomorrow, and AP Stats on Wednesday. Senior exams Monday and Tuesday next week and then they’re done!! Graduation on May 28th. Just keep checking things off the list… :-c
My son started studying for his last AP exam, started today that is. REA “All Access” is really helpful.
We have a long Honors Convocation this week. Should it be a surprise to administration that many of the honorees still have AP exams to study for and can’t afford to spend hours at an awards ceremony?
Done with APs at Ds school, but then school ends Wednesday <:-P
At our school, parents are always welcome to volunteer as proctors.
DS doesn’t graduate until June 27, though I think classes will be effectively over June 22 or 23. But he took his last AP test (of 2) today so now they get to muck around with fun experiments for the rest of Bio, and for Eng Lit, they get to do nonfiction and class presentations. DD’14 had fun with all this. AP classes are awkward for us, though, since we don’t start until well into September and then have to squish everything in by early May. Ah well.
End of year flakiness doesn’t just affect seniors. DS’17 had an adventure…he does track and ran an extra practice with a couple of track buddies weekend before last. But he got lost in the hills and ran 19 miles. Guess he’ll be ready to run his marathon when he’s old enough! He was a sore boy, lol, but ended up getting a PR in the mile last week, so maybe it was good for him.
DD’14 is into college finals and then she’ll be home, yay! Missing that sweet girl.
Are you sure we aren’t related? My kid once received an “explorer’s award” from his XC teammates to commemorate his uncanny ability to get large groups of teenage boys lost on trail runs.
Went to an awards ceremony for the best athletes in the district in the spring sports. It was fun to see the guys from DS’s YMCA basketball team from when they were in late elementary and middle school. I wouldn’t have recognized any of them, and none of their parents recognized DS. None of the boys were there for basketball (of course, that’s a winter sport, but none would have been there for that anyway), but there was a tennis player, a track & field guy, a volleyball player (DS) and a younger brother who was a baseball player. All the parents looked a little grayer and a little paunchier. The kids from that team are mostly going to good colleges, in or out of state. All-in-all a great group of kids.
Got a call from the local Elks Club. Son had already won $1500 from the state and regional levels. Apparently, he will be awarded an additional $600 from the local club that will go directly to him (rather than his school). That was really cool! We’re supposed to attend a dinner and then awards/presentation, but it might conflict with his Calculus final (he’s at the community college at night). He probably would be relieved because he’s supposed to give a little 2 minute speech at the awards.
My introverted guy has come such a long way, but it’s still hard for him to speak in front of others. He’ll do it, though, when push comes to shove. He did a semester of speech and did one tournament in his sophomore year. He was so, so nervous that day. He almost didn’t go through with it, but in the end, he did it, and learned from it. Most people have no idea he’s shy/introverted. He’s worked so hard to compensate and overcome. Nice for his efforts to be acknowledged.
Does everyone in the whole country take their AP exams at the same time? For example, did everyone take AP Bio yesterday morning? That is what I was thinking since you can go to the AP website and they have a schedule there?
@wrights1994 - You are correct. Everyone takes the same AP subject test on the same day.
That’s what I thought… one of the local private high schools had the last day of school for seniors last Tuesday and there were pictures all over social media of all the kids outside the school destroying their books and posing for all kinds of pictures at the same time the AP Calc BC test was going on. And my son was totally disgusted wondering why they would destroy books when they still had 9 days of AP testing to go, lol.
Our district has seniors take their finals in the two days of school after all AP testing is done and then they are done. Makes more sense to me if you want to keep the kids engaged in what is going on!
My DD also thought AP Bio wasn’t too bad. Our school goes until June 22…so far post-AP tests they have been watching movies in various classes. There is a rumor you don’t have to take a final if you are getting an A…I told her to confirm that first!
My S has 2 APs left. He has not studied one second for AP tests. Ah, seniors! But I need to give a shout out to our teachers for our school’s high AP passing rates!
We just had our sports awards ceremony, and he got a football MVP award and an award in his other sport for his hard work and attitude! Very nice! We have one more ceremony, proms, then graduation. The dry cleaner bills are killing me.
@Barfly, lol on the dry cleaner bills. Just got S18’s clothes back from DECA Internationals. S15 had his senior presentation today, honors convocation coming soon, and graduation. Add that to hubby’s and the dry cleaner loves me right now!
