My daughter hasn’t got anything from any college. she is left out. :D

So far, S15 has gotten two handwritten thankyou’s for college visits he did with his older sister. I don’t think our mailbox could withstand the weight of any more college mail!

We are just back from launching D1 to college. D2 (=D2015) is pretty jealous, says college looks like fun. She is less than thrilled that she has three more years of HS, starting with mountains of summer HW, that she has to finish before the nirvana of college life. I don’t think she’s really quite processed that along with the endless cafeteria buffets and late-night socializing out there’s also mountains of college work.

Yay to successful launching mihcal!! We just got older S settled into his dorm. He looked soooooo happy!

Yay to both mihcal1 and momsings! It’s sort of nice for the younger ones to get a preview I think. Even nicer when those launched seem to be doing so well!

Us too - we leave tomorrow morning for a 10 hour drive! S’15 is offended that we’re having my mom stay here while we’re gone for 4 days…

School doesn’t start here for DS2015 until after Labor Day. He got lifeguard certified at the beginning of the month and has been working full-time taking substitute jobs for kids going back to college or starting fall sports. He’s loving it, and will probably really be happy when he gets that first paycheck!!

We’ll be taking my college sophomore DS back to school the week after the HS starts. We’ll all go, as we enjoy visiting campus and will get a chance to see some friends we made last year.

Good luck to everyone with their rising sophomore!

Hi All-

Busy summer! I need to catch up on everything but wanted to pop in and say hi!

My daughter has had a busy summer but somehow has still managed not to read the one summer book assigned! She has worked very hard to make Varsity for her sport and is in the middle of grueling tryouts. I don’t know if she will make it but she has given it her best effort-isn’t that all we can ask of ourselves?

She is taking a very difficult schedule-more than I recommended even-but she wants to do it and she is a very hard worker so I let her do what she felt she needed to do. I am keeping my fingers crossed she gets the classes she wants with the teachers she wants-I doubt we will be that lucky but I can hope!

She starts this coming Tuesday, and her brother heads back to school the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. I am looking forward to getting back into some kind of routine!

S15 keeps asking me if I miss older S. Finally it dawned on me that HE was missing his older brother. I asked him about it, and he said “yes, I miss him, but I miss the cats more!”, as we are still in CA.

LOL at momsings S.
Hope things are going smoothly and that you are feeling better.

Pepper, good luck to your D with tryouts!

We are back to the routine here and it’s been nice, but the homework load this year is considerably greater (both in volume and difficulty I think) than it was last year.

Finished our first full week of school. S has been invited to apply for NHS and was asked to mentor incoming freshmen. Busy first week! He seems to be settling in to his classes pretty well. He has 4 Honors, one on-level class and a Junior-level creative writing class.

D still has 1 week before school starts. She got her classes which included the surprise of Advanced English (required teacher recommendation and her 9th grade teacher was undecided when school ended).

Checking in online friends…

@Ezilyamused, your school started early!

D. started school today. It was a busy and productive summer. School starts with busy band activities - practices, games, parades, competitions… D. doesn’t even get credit for doing band, because she runs out of school time - AP chemistry conflicts with band. But band teacher doesn’t want to lose her so she is now in pit doing percussion. It’s a great experience for her, but it takes so much time. Once again we are debating if she wants to stay in band. This year we are committed. Next year if the teacher still runs the band as a competitive sport (it is new this year) she may not be a band member. That’s a pity because she won’t be eligible to try out for all state band. Last year she got in all state, that was one of the best experiences in her life. Oh well, whether to do band in school is a tough and almost painful choice. Throughout her life she will have choices like this to make. so it’s a good practice, I guess. :p

Just returned from the college launch with the older sister. Younger has just started her second week of classes, and it seems that the schedule has finally settled and she’s happy (with everything but the homework). It sounds like she’s making friends and having a good time.

Now things start to heat up.

School started last week here too. D has been trying to get her schedule in place since June but is only now able to get teachers to focus. I’m trying to stay in the background, chewing on my nails and I’m hoping it all works out this week without her having to change teachers.

* I’m trying to stay in the background, chewing on my nails and I’m hoping it all works out*

HA! This made me laugh. I hear ya!

I hate summer HW – and I’m not even the one who has to do it. It makes my D2 so grumpy! We’re home alone all week, with D1 launched to college, and H at Burning Man. D2 and I could be enjoying a last blast of summer with back-to-school shopping, sunsets at the beach, baking cookies, and watching chick-flicks. Instead, she’s hunched over schoolwork and I’m trying to figure out how much nagging is just-enough-but-not-too-much.
:(

First day of HS-YAY!!!

I am among those holding my breath waiting to see the schedule-she had 4 schedules in three days the first week last year-eventually it got all straightened out but it was very tough on her on top of being a freshman.

She did make Varsity Swing which was her hoped for result so thanks for the good wishes. Tonight they have a scrimmage so it is going to be a very long day for her!

Her big brother goes back Sunday and I am looking forward to getting back to a routine this year!

mihcal she ended up getting her summer work done yesterday-I kept my nagging to a minimum this year since I finally realized it just doesn’t work! :(

I’m not so worried about her not getting the HW done. It’s just that, with my firstborn recently launched, I realize that time with my kids is precious and fleeting. I resent every minute spent hunched over worksheets when we could be enjoying quality time together.

That, and it makes her grumpy. Makes me grumpy, too. :p

I’m with you on that one, mihcal! S has a huge English assignment. I don’t mind a bit of summer reading or some homework, but this assignment is excessive.

I feel the same way about the precious time…
