Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

The medical form is a HIPPA release form. The other release form for colleges is under FERPA. If it isn’t on the website I would call and ask. @Ballerina016

Wasnt there a couple of forms discussed - Legal Power of attorney and a Health care Power of Attorney? I think you can get them from caringinfo.org.

Thank you @readingclaygirl and @Sophmore1

Hope you feel well enough to get through your test tomorrow @readingclaygirl! One last test for my D as well. Just ordered her a laptop. I guess it’s the first dorm mountain item. Doing the research for extended warranties vs. credit card warranties. And looking at the college insurance mentioned awhile back on here. Then there’s tuition insurance. (So many things to insure! LOL) I’m booking cancelable hotel rooms for move in weekend and parents weekend. I found a perfect airbnb rental, but the owner doesn’t want to do short stays so far out. Fingers crossed she’ll have openings once we hit the 30 day mark.

I’ve been working on super-cleaning the house in preparation for graduation. I should probably be figuring out food, desserts, displays. Right now I just want my D to get her last assignments turned in, books returned, tests taken, transcripts requested, etc. I have to keep telling myself that there’s more than one way to do things, and just because she isn’t doing them the way I would, it’s still fine. I know she’ll get it done. But man, she could do it in a less stressful (for me) way.

Thank you @LexieAnn Does your D graduate soon?

I’m right there with you, @LexieAnn - I cleaned like a fiend on Mother’s Day, getting ready for Saturday’s graduation and Sunday’s party of 50 or so. It’s hard to concentrate at work when I’m mentally planning the designs on the cupcakes, cookies and large party cake. My lists have sub-lists. But I love every second of this. The preparation is half of the fun. I’m not bothering S with all the stuff he needs to do until after Sunday is over - then he better watch out.

@psychmomma How’s your son feeling about his college choice these days? Still second guessing?

@readingclaygirl she graduates next weekend.

I agree, @psychmomma, prep is half the fun! I’m a planner, whether it be a vacation or a party. And cakes are so much fun! Usually I have all the planning done well in advance…this seems to have snuck up on me.

@carolinamom2boys - he may be second guessing for a long time. He finally likes someone- and she’s going to his preferred school, while he is not. I think our hearts can be very distracting at times. I hope once graduation is over, he’ll start working on the prep work for registration and will begin to adjust. I did remind him that if he had chosen based on her, and it didn’t work out, there could be some regret over giving up this choice. Sigh. My other kids never liked anyone in high school so this issue never came up.

Are the schools far away from each other @pyschmomma ?

@carolinamom2boys, My D took AP econ and it was well worth it, only one AP exam fee, took both macro and micro exams and can count it for 6 credits in her program. The second most useful AP was lit and she got 6 credits from that and AP calc AB satisfied her one math requirement (the other is Statistics).

Thanks @mommdc . Our school pays for the AP exams so if they take the class, they’re required to take the exam. This was my son’s heaviest load with 5 and he has 3 from previous years. I’d have to do the math , but I think he’ll have close to 30 credits to take with him

@carolinamom2boys, that is great, especially when the school accepts most of the credits.

Our school has us pay and then reimburses for scores 3,4,5.

@readingclaygirl, I hope the antibiotics kick in and help you feel better soon.

Anyone else having a delayed graduation party for their S or D? Our S doesn’t seem to care if we hold one (said a family dinner out would be fine), and between graduation on the 6th, orientation at his college on the 13-14, and a family trip the 22-28 I am feeling too busy to plan one. He said a dinner out would be fine, but we are now thinking maybe a July graduation/heading to college cookout at our home for family and his friends. I feel like July will be less busy for us as well as his friends who are graduating.

@readingclaygirl, I hope you feel better tomorrow for your exam - it’s hard enough to take APs when you are feeling healthy! Good luck!

@carolinamom2boys - only an hour apart. Ha, who even knows what the summer will bring? The next few weeks and months will be interesting.

@lifegarding we are also delaying… I’ve got 2 graduating (one college, one HS) and too much other family stuff going on… I’ll wrap my head around it in June (or not.)

AP exams are almost over (one more on Friday- microE) and then on to the pomp and circumstance!

@onedecided yes, I feel like I can’t add one more thing to plan/worry about right now with everything so busy. I guess as long as we fit something in before he heads off to college, that might be fun. I also figure my D18 will want a huge extravaganza when she graduates, so no need to go overboard this time if my S16 honestly doesn’t care (he’s got a small group of close friends, so a party seems overboard).

It is really fun to hear about other graduate’s celebration plans, though…and I keep hoping they will inspire me to have a good idea for S16’s gathering :).

@psychmomma That’s a perfect distance. Close enough not to be a huge distraction , but close enough to make it work if they choose . DS16 has never had a girlfriend , always relegated to the “friend zone”. I’ll be curious to see how this plays out in his college which is 60% female.

Just ordered graduation party invitations. We’ll probably have about 20-25 for a pulled pork and brisket. Nothing over the top . Having a great cake made with his High school logo on the top layer and College of Charleston on the bottom , with a fondant covered rice crispie in the shape of a mortarboard on top.
