Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

@readingclaygirl - feel better soon!

We will probably have a friends get-together later on also.
Not sure about family. They may come for the ceremony but directly after DS will go for the shut-in/ all night party so- doesn’t really give us time to go out to dinner or anything.

I haven’t really been planning much- I think I’m in a partial state of denial! :-S

I am having D’s party early. She graduates at the end of the month, older sister graduates from college 2 weeks later and oldest son gets married early August. Every weekend has something and HS D will be a camp counselor starting the day after her sister’s college graduation. I had to pick the only Sunday that her sibs could come.

I am doing a dessert buffet: chocolate fountain, fruit trays, large cake, cheese and cracker trays, cookies, mini cream puffs. I expect about 150 people. Invites mailed (she didn’t want the FB blast) and I empty the house next week into the garage. Hosting the after prom party the night before the open house, but only 8-10 kids expected and they won’t eat much. At least the house will be clean!

@lifegarding - my nephew had a late July party, a couple of weeks before he left. It was great! As relatives, we were all happy to see him before he left. I made him a “cake” of his favorite snacks for his dorm - Oreos and ranch dressing dominated, if I recall. Lol. Our summer is crazy - I would have preferred waiting a couple weeks but it didn’t work out for the main attendees.

^ that cake sounds terrific! I’ve been sketching ideas for our cake. It’s baked and in the freezer. I’ll decorate it Saturday night. I was also toying with logos from both schools., as well as something to give a nod to tennis and the newspaper, S’s main ECs. I made those cute candy grad caps and diplomas last time, so will maybe do them again.

Thank you all! I’m starting to feel better. I’m declaring myself studied out and I’m going to relax and go to bed early

Thanks to everyone who responded to my angst. We did carve out some time to work on her schedule. I think it will work out. Her goal seems to be to never write a paper ever again (Dream on kid). But every time there is the smallest roadblock (like she has to get a permission #for an honors course), we stop moving. Reminding myself–it is her life.

@Booajo - if I had a nickel for every time I said that to myself (it’s her life) about my D as she bounced up and down and all around through college, I’d be rich. As long as she’s getting the necessary things done before the deadlines, that may be as good as it gets, for now.

Feel better soon, @readingclaygirl. And best of luck on your exams!

D decided not to take the AP Econ exam, only took AP Lit and AP Spanish. Took them both last week, she thinks she did well.

They sent us a check already for the refund for the other tests she’d signed up for, but isn’t taking - Econ, Gov, and Statistics. She’s trying to keep things low-key and balanced, and decided she doesn’t need to get college credit for those…
Her friend is taking 8 AP exams. Within the next week or two. Crazy.

My son is taking 5 @BeeDAre , and he will be so happy when tomorrow is over. The great part is all of his teachers for his AP classes gave their finals before the AP exam as prep for the AP exam, so he only has one more exam after tomorrow’s AP. so happy to hear that your daughter is working hard on keeping things on balance.

Thanks @BeeDAre

Feel better @readingclaygirl and GL with your exam!

D still has two more weeks of school, then they have several days of finals but she won’t have any. Seniors don’t have to take finals if the class is an AP or if they have an A. S19 still has 6 weeks of school.

We will have a combination graduation/18th birthday party in early July.

Thanks @Undercovermom1 going to bed

@psychmomma --so you do cake decorating as a hobby too? I outdid myself for older D with a little climbing person (a mini bendy from REI) climbing a mountain cake with her college at the top. Sseakid wants cupcakes, so that’s what we’ll have-I have a few ideas to personalize them. The ones at the top of the tower will spell out “Walk it out”. She saw this online and once danced to the hip hop song by that name, so it’s perfect.

@dentmom4 I thought we were having a large party with aobut 50-60 invited-150 would barely fit in the church hall where we’re having our party! We’re having our party a week after graduation. It’s a DYI affiar, with H smoking and grilling, my desserts, and favorite aunties making D’s favorite foods. We’re mailing invitations tomorrow, but several are going to be hand-delivered to people at her church and school.

We don’t have AP’s and school is still on for another month, so we’re in full crush mode with the senior project and other end-of-year stuff. Tomorrow D will be teaching a kindergarten class a STEM project as part of her senior requirements (all projects have to have a hands-on component).

@sseamom --with all the relatives, friends, teammates, teachers, we’ll hit 150. It’s an open house so they won’t all be there at the same time. We spread it over 4 hours. Our house and backyard can handle that many.

D has another week of classes, no exams if grade is B or better AND have not missed 5+ days in this semester, last AP on Thursday, final choir concert next week-all seniors in the show choir perform a solo.

@lifegarding Our party will be in July. Between travels and orientation, it was either on the same weekend as two of our good friends’ parties or wait until July, which we opted to do. Just ordered the announcements/invites today.

Delayed party sounds like a great idea but alas it us not the custom in these parts so I am in the midst of planning with a group. It is going about the same as most group projects do. [-( 8-} $-) [-O< :-SS :-@

@lifegarding We had a party planned for this Saturday and Graduation is today. We decided to cancel the party. Many people couldn’t make it except for my co-workers. I can have a work party anytime. D16 never really wanted a party anyway. She would rather spend time with friends just hanging out instead of orchestrated events.

Have a great day @livinginLA

Thank you @carolinamom2boys. It dawned on me last night that I did not take the day off of work tomorrow so I will be hurting. Graduation starts at 7:00 and it scheduled to last 2 hours. And D16 informed us last night that there will be a fireworks show immediately following. If I’m lucky I will be in bed and asleep by midnight. I’m usually up by 4:45 am for work and will work 11 hours :stuck_out_tongue: Today will be wonderful but tomorrow not so much.
