@livinginLA enjoy the moment tonight… do you have any coughcough* sick days coming to you?
@oneundecided I do but I won’t call in. We are already shorthanded and I just couldn’t do that to my co-workers unless I was truly sick. I have done it before. It will just suck for a little bit.
@livingLA you have an early morning too. I took the day off on Friday as my daughter graduates and then they have an all night lockin. I get up at 4:30 and that would be a very long day. I hope you have a great celebration.
Enjoy today @livinginLA & hope tomorrow is not too bad- your coworkers are lucky!
@livinginLA , have a great time at graduation tonight!
@livinginLA congratulations! Enjoy every minute of it!
Congrats @livinginLA ! Hope you can catch up on sleep in the near future. D’s graduation is on a Saturday, and in the evening, so I won’t need to take time off. But H is doing so for the party the week after. I work only half days so that should be enough for me. Good luck to anyone still testing!
S graduates memorial day weekend. We will have a party there along with a friend - open house - several kids, teachers and parents invited. That party is a little hard to plan since we are renting a couple of cottages for the weekend and are renting a hall for the party - we will probably cater some of the food and H will grill the rest. Desserts will have to be ordered or come from Costco - there’s no oven in the cottages we’ve rented!
S has agreed to a senior recital here at home - so we are planning that and a grad party right after in July. Have sent out a “save the date” note to all friends and family - given the crazy schedules, the only weekend we have available is July 4th weekend and we wanted to let friends know in advance about the party.
Someone mentioned candy grads? Care to elaborate how? We made cupcakes with graduation hats for D’s party five years ago and that was a big hit.
I’ve seen two ways of making the candy caps. One is with the single wrapped size of Reese’s cups, one is with Rolo candies. Then you fuse a chocolate square or chocolate-covered graham cookie with frosting to the top. The “tassle” is usually a small length of red licorice string candy. The diplomas can be rolled pieces of fondant-you can buy it premade in many stores now, or you can use those colorful flat strips of sour candy, fruit leather, etc. I’ve also seen rolled out white gumdrops, but that seems like too much work.
I do the single wrap peanut butter cups topped with small square of chocolate (I think I use Ghirardelli). My diplomas are made with Pirouline rolled wafers, tied with a thin strip of fruit roll-ups. Both are fairly fast and easy.
A while ago we were talking about travel backpacks to use as carry-on luggage - specifically mentioned was the Osprey Porter 46. If anyone is interested, after scouring the Internet, I found a pretty good deal. Most places they are $130 plus tax. I just ordered one on Ebags dot com. Save $25 with coupon code SAVE25 and they don’t charge for shipping or sales tax! I ended up paying $104.99.
So I took the exam. I think I did well. People came in at lunch looking for lunch detention- that’s it’s normal location and apparently no one thought to move it when they put me in there so that was annoying!
Heading off to Senior Awards night. I have no clue what award he will be getting, probably NHS. Will update when we get home.
Have fun @carolinamom2boys

We did the caps this way for D14’s grad party, and put them on lollipop sticks. Easy and a big hit. I’ll make more this time. I tried licorice for the tassel and ended up using frosting instead.
@readingclaygirl yep, people don’t think ahead when kids need accommodations. When my kid did SBAC end of year testing 2 weeks ago (8th grade) they forgot to put him in the empty room. They moved him as soon as they realized, which, to their credit, was very quickly. But he said that even though the room was quiet, it was still really noisy for him and the empty room (well with one other kid) made a huge difference. It’s the little things that make a huge difference.
I am officially a retired soccer mom. The soccer banquet was last night. My son has been playing soccer since he was 4, so not going to soccer games will be quite an adjustment. My heart was warmed by some of the younger players hugging him and telling him they were going to miss him. I wanted to take a photo, but that probably wouldn’t have been cool.
My son had three AP exams and is done with school. If they take AP exams, they don’t have to take finals. He was exempt from his other finals. He is so happy to be done.
Graduation is next Wednesday. We will have people over from 1-4 prior to graduation since some people will be leaving immediately after graduation. We have also invited family back to our house after graduation. The food is being catered so all we have to do is keep it warm.
Just returned from Senior Awards. Unfortunately , there was a Steve Harvey moment with one of the awards. My son’s name was called for the ACT English award, but the certificate he was given had another name on it. So we’re unsure who was supposed to be the recipient . He’s going to email the Guidance Counselor to get it clarified. He also received a medal for Summa Cum Laude honors and perhaps the most humbling was the Science Award. When he went up to receive it , the presenter made it a point to tell him that a teacher who was the Science Club and Science Team coach that left last year made it very clear before she left that she wanted him to get it because of his commitment to the Science Department since Freshman year. He started to tear up when he told me.
Congrats @carolinamom2boys hope the mix up gets sorted out.
" …the presenter made it a point to tell him that a teacher who was the Science Club and Science Team coach that left last year made it very clear before she left that she wanted him to get it because of his commitment to the Science Department since Freshman year."
Clearly, the faculty held consensus with that teacher, and their respect for your son’s demonstrated commitment was in echo of the teacher’s.
“He started to tear up when he told me.”
This has made tears run down my face, as it means your son was moved by this acknowledgement of his service, and touched by the faithfulness of those who honored the express wishes of a faculty member who noted it with that famous red pen teachers use.
To your son, @carolinamom2boys.
