Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

@LexieAnn We have a drying rack on our list to buy at Target at move-in.

No printing stations in the dorms but. Do have them in the labs. But have to pay for black and white page 7 cents per page. Can’t remember color costs. Not sure how much she will be printing but we aren’t flying items in so we can fit it in the car.

I think my D needs a drying rack, @LexieAnn, because she has so many dance clothes that aren’t supposed to go into the dryer. Thanks for the reminder.

D is a swimmer and she will have a drying rack, older sister used hers all the time.

We are nearing the end of D’s graduation activities: in the last 9 days we have had prom, after-prom at our house, grad open house for 150 people, senior honors night, baccalaureate, and graduation tomorrow night followed by the all-night party for which we are NOT doing anything (plenty of volunteer parents). Plus the grad parties that D will attend and a few for us. Exhausting, but…we gear up for older D’s graduation in 11 days from college and we will have 2 full days of activities for her.

@dentmom4 I am exhausted just hearing your schedule. Recovering today from lots of grad events in the last 3 weeks including graduation.

I think we may be experiencing a version of foul the nest here but it is the friends that are being pushed away. DS is VERY annoyed at how many behaved at a class event following graduation. All activities were legal but many ā€œjust stupidā€ in DS’s eyes. He is ā€œso happy to be out of here soon!ā€ This from the the boy that mourns for at least a week after a sports season ends. Smile and nod, oops that is another thread.

Good thing we have registration for classes coming up soon. On to college he goes!

DS16 experienced similar feelings at graduation practice @Cheeringsection . He was so irritated at how his classmates were acting. It made practice run long and his patience run thin.

@Cheeringsection @carolinamom2boys I’m feeling the same way and we haven’t gotten to graduation yet. So many classmates have just been so immature and disrespectful lately especially towards people whose prom dates don’t meet social norms.(i.e. One of my closest guy friend who is bringing his bf)

My kid will also be one of those likely to print things at the last minute at some ungodly hour… Have planned to get her a printer for her room, all along.

I also heard, from one of the IT people themselves, that Ball State is no longer allowing first 500 pages of printing free at the library. In fact, no more free printing, i think is what he said, starting this fall.

Next time I attempt to venture off of this thread , please have an intervention.

Uh oh … What trouble did you get into today?

I’m exercising great restraint on a certain thread , and avoiding bars, but it’s extremely difficult .

I think I know. There’s no arguing with stupid (maybe ā€œignorantā€ or ā€œunenlightenedā€ might be the better word-choice). Right, @carolinamom2boys?

Exactly @dyiu13 .

I’ve got a drying rack on our Amazon list, for both eco–conscious reasons and keeping the stupid-expensive Lululemon workout clothes she buys in decent shape. Other slightly odd things that have made it on the Amazon list, and any opinions would be appreciated:

Silk pillow case. It’s supposed to be cooler for sleeping and she has no air conditioning in her dorm room.

Turkish towel set. It’s supposed to dry faster than regular towels.
Bog rain boots. Good for rain, fine with wool socks for snow?
Dry erase decals. She loves to have reminders in plain sight. I’m hoping the decals with stay up on their own. And if not, they are cheap.

@palm715

Yes, it’s the Lululemon dance clothes that prompt a drying rack for us too!

I like the idea of a silk pillow case. Is it washable?

I vote for large-size post-its (5"x7"?) rather than dry erase decals. That dry erase ink will smear…all over the Lululemon clothing and silk pillowcase.

@palm715 I don’t know about cooler sleeping but silk pillowcases are excellent for reducing frizz.

@palm715, we use Bogs all winter here (though admittedly our last two winters have not been super cold :wink: )

The school year is finally over! It was a prolonged farewell, lasting about three weeks after graduation, but the last track meet (State Championships) was Saturday. A sweet ending in that the girls team were the champions! And D16 PRed in her event, so hooray.

She has started her job at a local Chinese travel agency, and likes it so far! Also started serious training for the mountain running season, in addition to prep for an upcoming ice dancing test. The stress is over for now!

D had a couple of dry erase decals on her wall when she was younger. There was a problem when she erased them. The powder from the markers as you erased them got onto the white walls and didn’t wash off that well. I would go with larger post-its too. They come in sizes as large as 2X3 FEET. I don’t know about silk pillow cases, but cotton always seemed cooler to me in hot, muggy weather. Cotton is sturdy too, and will stand up to industrial washers and dryers.

D is not a brand-name person, but found a cute pair of sweat pants in an unusual style today when we made the rounds of the thrift-store sales. With the mark down, they were about $3.50. When we looked at the tag, it turned out that they were Lululemon. Score!

D won’t have a full kitchen, but will have a microwave room, so she’s asked for a ā€œmeal in a mugā€ cookbook and an oversized microwave-save mug. She’ll have a full meal plan, but I figure this will give her some options beyond frozen food if she misses a meal for some reason. I think that’s the only unusual thing on our list.

We call that a ā€œthrift-score!ā€ Yes, with the exclamation point. <:-P

@EastGrad literally LOL’d

Love the idea of the super-size post-it notes over dry erase decals & will be incorporating the phase thrift-score! in my vernacular.

I :x the Parent of HS Class of 2016 thread! And @GoodGrief16, congrats on D’s PR! Excellent timing. :slight_smile:
